NEW JERUSALEMGREEK BIBLE
The fol owing things you should not be ashamed of, and do not sin from fear of what others think:1 μη περι τουτων αισχυνθης και μη λαβης προσωπον του αμαρτανειν
of the Law of the Most High or of the covenant, of a verdict that acquits the godless,2 περι νομου υψιστου και διαθηκης και περι κριματος δικαιωσαι τον ασεβη
of keeping accounts with a travelling companion, of settling property on your friends,3 περι λογου κοινωνου και οδοιπορων και περι δοσεως κληρονομιας εταιρων
of being accurate over scales and weights, of making small and large profits,4 περι ακριβειας ζυγου και σταθμιων και περι κτησεως πολλων και ολιγων
of gaining from commercial transactions, of disciplining your children strictly, of lashing a wicked slavetill you draw blood.5 περι διαφορου πρασεως εμπορων και περι παιδειας τεκνων πολλης και οικετη πονηρω πλευραν αιμαξαι
With an interfering wife, it is as wel to use your seal, and where there are many hands, lock things up.6 επι γυναικι πονηρα καλον σφραγις και οπου χειρες πολλαι κλεισον
Whatever stores you issue, do it by number and weight, spendings and takings, put everything inwriting.7 ο εαν παραδιδως εν αριθμω και σταθμω και δοσις και λημψις παντα εν γραφη
Do not be ashamed to correct a stupid person or a fool, or an old dotard who bickers with youngpeople. Then you wil show yourself real y educated and win the approval of everyone.8 περι παιδειας ανοητου και μωρου και εσχατογηρως κρινομενου προς νεους και εση πεπαιδευμενος αληθινως και δεδοκιμασμενος εναντι παντος ζωντος
Unknown to her, a daughter keeps her father awake, the worry she gives him drives away his sleep: inher youth, in case she never marries, married, in case she should be disliked,9 θυγατηρ πατρι αποκρυφος αγρυπνια και η μεριμνα αυτης αφιστα υπνον εν νεοτητι αυτης μηποτε παρακμαση και συνωκηκυια μηποτε μισηθη
as a virgin, in case she should be defiled and found with child in her father's house, having a husband,in case she goes astray, married, in case she should be sterile!10 εν παρθενια μηποτε βεβηλωθη και εν τοις πατρικοις αυτης εγκυος γενηται μετα ανδρος ουσα μηποτε παραβη και συνωκηκυια μηποτε στειρωθη
Your daughter is headstrong? Keep a sharp look-out that she does not make you the laughing-stock ofyour enemies, the talk of the town, the object of common gossip, and put you to public shame.11 επι θυγατρι αδιατρεπτω στερεωσον φυλακην μηποτε ποιηση σε επιχαρμα εχθροις λαλιαν εν πολει και εκκλητον λαου και καταισχυνη σε εν πληθει πολλων
Do not stare at any man for his good looks, do not sit down with women;12 παντι ανθρωπω μη εμβλεπε εν καλλει και εν μεσω γυναικων μη συνεδρευε
for moth comes out of clothes, and woman's spite out of woman.13 απο γαρ ιματιων εκπορευεται σης και απο γυναικος πονηρια γυναικος
Better a man's spite than a woman's kindness: women give rise to shame and reproach.14 κρεισσων πονηρια ανδρος η αγαθοποιος γυνη και γυνη καταισχυνουσα εις ονειδισμον
Next, I shal remind you of the works of the Lord, and tel of what I have seen. By the words of the Lordhis works come into being and all creation obeys his wil .15 μνησθησομαι δη τα εργα κυριου και α εορακα εκδιηγησομαι εν λογοις κυριου τα εργα αυτου
The shining sun looks down on al things, and the work of the Lord is full of his glory.16 ηλιος φωτιζων κατα παν επεβλεψεν και της δοξης κυριου πληρες το εργον αυτου
The Lord has not granted the Holy Ones the power to tell of all his marvels which the Almighty Lordhas solidly constructed for the universe to stand firm in his glory.17 ουκ εξεποιησεν τοις αγιοις κυριου εκδιηγησασθαι παντα τα θαυμασια αυτου α εστερεωσεν κυριος ο παντοκρατωρ στηριχθηναι εν δοξη αυτου το παν
He has fathomed both the abyss and the human heart and seen into their devious ways; for the MostHigh knows all there is to know and sees the signs of the times.18 αβυσσον και καρδιαν εξιχνευσεν και εν πανουργευμασιν αυτων διενοηθη εγνω γαρ ο υψιστος πασαν ειδησιν και ενεβλεψεν εις σημειον αιωνος
He declares what is past and what wil be, and reveals the trend of hidden things.19 απαγγελλων τα παρεληλυθοτα και τα εσομενα και αποκαλυπτων ιχνη αποκρυφων
Not a thought escapes him, not a single word is hidden from him.20 ου παρηλθεν αυτον παν διανοημα ουκ εκρυβη απ' αυτου ουδε εις λογος
He has embellished the magnificent works of his wisdom, he is from everlasting to everlasting, nothingcan be added to him, nothing taken away, he needs no one's advice.21 τα μεγαλεια της σοφιας αυτου εκοσμησεν ως εστιν προ του αιωνος και εις τον αιωνα ουτε προσετεθη ουτε ηλαττωθη και ου προσεδεηθη ουδενος συμβουλου
How lovely, all his works, how dazzling to the eye!22 ως παντα τα εργα αυτου επιθυμητα και ως σπινθηρος εστιν θεωρησαι
They all live and last for ever, and, whatever the circumstances, al obey.23 παντα ταυτα ζη και μενει εις τον αιωνα εν πασαις χρειαις και παντα υπακουει
Al things go in pairs, by opposites, he has not made anything imperfect:24 παντα δισσα εν κατεναντι του ενος και ουκ εποιησεν ουδεν ελλειπον
one thing complements the excel ence of another. Who could ever grow tired of gazing at his glory?25 εν του ενος εστερεωσεν τα αγαθα και τις πλησθησεται ορων δοξαν αυτου
