Sirach 42

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 The fol owing things you should not be ashamed of, and do not sin from fear of what others think:	1 di ripetere quanto hai udito e di rivelare parole segrete. Allora saprai veramente che cos’è la vergogna e incontrerai favore presso ogni uomo. Delle cose seguenti non ti vergognare e non peccare per rispetto umano:
2 of the Law of the Most High or of the covenant, of a verdict that acquits the godless,	2 della legge dell’Altissimo e dell’alleanza, della sentenza che giustifica l’empio,
3 of keeping accounts with a travelling companion, of settling property on your friends,	3 dei conti con il socio e con i compagni di viaggio, di dare agli altri l’eredità che spetta loro,
4 of being accurate over scales and weights, of making small and large profits,	4 dell’esattezza della bilancia e dei pesi, di fare acquisti, grandi o piccoli che siano,
5 of gaining from commercial transactions, of disciplining your children strictly, of lashing a wicked slavetill you draw blood.	5 della contrattazione sul prezzo dei commercianti, della frequente correzione dei figli e di far sanguinare i fianchi di uno schiavo pigro.
6 With an interfering wife, it is as wel to use your seal, and where there are many hands, lock things up.	6 Con una moglie malvagia è opportuno il sigillo, dove ci sono troppe mani usa la chiave.
7 Whatever stores you issue, do it by number and weight, spendings and takings, put everything inwriting.	7 Qualunque cosa depositi, contala e pesala, il dare e l’avere sia tutto per iscritto.
8 Do not be ashamed to correct a stupid person or a fool, or an old dotard who bickers with youngpeople. Then you wil show yourself real y educated and win the approval of everyone.	8 Non vergognarti di correggere l’insensato e lo stolto e il vecchio molto avanti negli anni accusato di fornicazione; così sarai veramente assennato e approvato da ogni vivente.
9 Unknown to her, a daughter keeps her father awake, the worry she gives him drives away his sleep: inher youth, in case she never marries, married, in case she should be disliked,	9 Per il padre una figlia è un’inquietudine segreta, il pensiero di lei allontana il sonno: nella sua giovinezza, perché non sfiorisca, una volta accasata, perché non sia ripudiata,
10 as a virgin, in case she should be defiled and found with child in her father's house, having a husband,in case she goes astray, married, in case she should be sterile!	10 finché è vergine, perché non sia sedotta e resti incinta nella casa paterna, quando è maritata, perché non cada in colpa, quando è accasata, perché non sia sterile.
11 Your daughter is headstrong? Keep a sharp look-out that she does not make you the laughing-stock ofyour enemies, the talk of the town, the object of common gossip, and put you to public shame.	11 Su una figlia ribelle rafforza la vigilanza, perché non ti renda scherno dei nemici, motivo di chiacchiere in città e di rimprovero fra la gente, così da farti vergognare davanti a tutti.
12 Do not stare at any man for his good looks, do not sit down with women;	12 Non considerare nessuno solo per la sua bellezza e non sederti insieme con le donne,
13 for moth comes out of clothes, and woman's spite out of woman.	13 perché dagli abiti esce fuori la tignola e dalla donna malizia di donna.
14 Better a man's spite than a woman's kindness: women give rise to shame and reproach.	14 Meglio la cattiveria di un uomo che la compiacenza di una donna, una donna impudente è un obbrobrio.
15 Next, I shal remind you of the works of the Lord, and tel of what I have seen. By the words of the Lordhis works come into being and all creation obeys his wil .	15 Ricorderò ora le opere del Signore e descriverò quello che ho visto. Per le parole del Signore sussistono le sue opere, e il suo giudizio si compie secondo il suo volere.
16 The shining sun looks down on al things, and the work of the Lord is full of his glory.	16 Il sole che risplende vede tutto, della gloria del Signore sono piene le sue opere.
17 The Lord has not granted the Holy Ones the power to tell of all his marvels which the Almighty Lordhas solidly constructed for the universe to stand firm in his glory.	17 Neppure ai santi del Signore è dato di narrare tutte le sue meraviglie, che il Signore, l’Onnipotente, ha stabilito perché l’universo stesse saldo nella sua gloria.
18 He has fathomed both the abyss and the human heart and seen into their devious ways; for the MostHigh knows all there is to know and sees the signs of the times.	18 Egli scruta l’abisso e il cuore, e penetra tutti i loro segreti. L’Altissimo conosce tutta la scienza e osserva i segni dei tempi,
19 He declares what is past and what wil be, and reveals the trend of hidden things.	19 annunciando le cose passate e future e svelando le tracce di quelle nascoste.
20 Not a thought escapes him, not a single word is hidden from him.	20 Nessun pensiero gli sfugge, neppure una parola gli è nascosta.
21 He has embellished the magnificent works of his wisdom, he is from everlasting to everlasting, nothingcan be added to him, nothing taken away, he needs no one's advice.	21 Ha disposto con ordine le meraviglie della sua sapienza, egli solo è da sempre e per sempre: nulla gli è aggiunto e nulla gli è tolto, non ha bisogno di alcun consigliere.
22 How lovely, all his works, how dazzling to the eye!	22 Quanto sono amabili tutte le sue opere! E appena una scintilla se ne può osservare.
23 They all live and last for ever, and, whatever the circumstances, al obey.	23 Tutte queste cose hanno vita e resteranno per sempre per tutte le necessità, e tutte gli obbediscono.
24 Al things go in pairs, by opposites, he has not made anything imperfect:	24 Tutte le cose sono a due a due, una di fronte all’altra, egli non ha fatto nulla d’incompleto.
25 one thing complements the excel ence of another. Who could ever grow tired of gazing at his glory?	25 L’una conferma i pregi dell’altra: chi si sazierà di contemplare la sua gloria?
