Sirach 42

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 The fol owing things you should not be ashamed of, and do not sin from fear of what others think:	1 Pero de lo que sigue no te avergüences, y no peques por tener acepción de personas:
2 of the Law of the Most High or of the covenant, of a verdict that acquits the godless,	2 de la ley del Altísimo y de su alianza, del juicio que justifica a los impíos,
3 of keeping accounts with a travelling companion, of settling property on your friends,	3 de contar con compañero de viaje, de dar la herencia a compañeros,
4 of being accurate over scales and weights, of making small and large profits,	4 de la exactitud de balanzas y pesas, de obtener grandes y pequeñas ganancias,
5 of gaining from commercial transactions, of disciplining your children strictly, of lashing a wicked slavetill you draw blood.	5 de provecho en la venta a comerciantes, de la copiosa instrucción de los hijos, de ensangrentar las costillas de un mal siervo.
6 With an interfering wife, it is as wel to use your seal, and where there are many hands, lock things up.	6 Con mujer mala es bueno usar el sello, y, donde hay muchas manos, echa la llave.
7 Whatever stores you issue, do it by number and weight, spendings and takings, put everything inwriting.	7 Lo que entregues, hazlo con cuenta y medida, el haber y el debe, sea todo por escrito.
8 Do not be ashamed to correct a stupid person or a fool, or an old dotard who bickers with youngpeople. Then you wil show yourself real y educated and win the approval of everyone.	8 No te avergüences de enseñar al tonto y al necio, y al viejo acabado juzgado como joven. Serás entonces de verdad educado, y estimado de todo viviente.
9 Unknown to her, a daughter keeps her father awake, the worry she gives him drives away his sleep: inher youth, in case she never marries, married, in case she should be disliked,	9 Una hija es para el padre un secreto desvelo, aleja el sueño la inquietud por ella. En su juventud, miedo a que se le pase la edad, si está casada, a que sea aborrecida.
10 as a virgin, in case she should be defiled and found with child in her father's house, having a husband,in case she goes astray, married, in case she should be sterile!	10 Cuando virgen, no sea mancillada y en la casa paterna quede encinta. Cuando casada, a que sea infiel, cohabitando, a que sea estéril.
11 Your daughter is headstrong? Keep a sharp look-out that she does not make you the laughing-stock ofyour enemies, the talk of the town, the object of common gossip, and put you to public shame.	11 Sobre la hija desenvuelta refuerza la vigilancia, no sea que te haga la irrisión de tus enemigos, comidilla en la ciudad, corrillos en el pueblo, y ante el vulgo espeso te avergüence.
12 Do not stare at any man for his good looks, do not sit down with women;	12 De ningún hombre te quedes mirando la belleza, y entre mujeres no te sientes.
13 for moth comes out of clothes, and woman's spite out of woman.	13 Porque de los vestidos sale la polilla, y de la mujer la malicia femenina.
14 Better a man's spite than a woman's kindness: women give rise to shame and reproach.	14 Vale más maldad de hombre que bondad de mujer, la mujer cubre de vergüenza y oprobio.
15 Next, I shal remind you of the works of the Lord, and tel of what I have seen. By the words of the Lordhis works come into being and all creation obeys his wil .	15 Voy a evocar las obras del Señor, lo que tengo visto contaré. Por las palabras del Señor fueron hechas sus obras, y la creación está sometida a su voluntad.
16 The shining sun looks down on al things, and the work of the Lord is full of his glory.	16 El sol mira a todo iluminándolo, de la gloria del Señor está llena su obra.
17 The Lord has not granted the Holy Ones the power to tell of all his marvels which the Almighty Lordhas solidly constructed for the universe to stand firm in his glory.	17 No son capaces los Santos del Señor de contar todas sus maravillas, que firmemente estableció el Señor omnipotente, para que en su gloria el universo subsistiera.
18 He has fathomed both the abyss and the human heart and seen into their devious ways; for the MostHigh knows all there is to know and sees the signs of the times.	18 El sondea el abismo y el corazón humano, y sus secretos cálculos penetra. Pues el Altísimo todo saber conoce, y fija sus ojos en las señales de los tiempos.
19 He declares what is past and what wil be, and reveals the trend of hidden things.	19 Anuncia lo pasado y lo futuro, y descubre las huellas de las cosas secretas.
20 Not a thought escapes him, not a single word is hidden from him.	20 No se le escapa ningún pensamiento, ni una palabra se le oculta.
21 He has embellished the magnificent works of his wisdom, he is from everlasting to everlasting, nothingcan be added to him, nothing taken away, he needs no one's advice.	21 Las grandezas de su sabiduría las puso en orden, porque él es antes de la eternidad y por la eternidad; nada le ha sido añadido ni quitado, y de ningún consejero necesita.
22 How lovely, all his works, how dazzling to the eye!	22 ¡Qué amables son todas sus obras!: como una centella hay que contemplarlas.
23 They all live and last for ever, and, whatever the circumstances, al obey.	23 Todo esto vive y permanece eternamente, para cualquier menester todo obedece.
24 Al things go in pairs, by opposites, he has not made anything imperfect:	24 Todas las cosas de dos en dos, una frente a otra, y nada ha hecho deficiente.
25 one thing complements the excel ence of another. Who could ever grow tired of gazing at his glory?	25 Cada cosa afirma la excelencia de la otra, ¿quién se hartará de contemplar su gloria?
