1 Satan took his stand against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel.	1 Ma Satan si levò su contro Israele: e incitò David a fare il censo d'Israele.
2 David said to Joab and the people's princes, 'Go, and take a census of Israel, from Beersheba to Dan,then bring it back to me and let me know the total.'	2 David pertanto disse a Gioab, e ai capi del popolo: Andate, e numerate Israele da Bersabea sino a Dan: e riferitemi la somma, perchè io vo' saperla.
3 Joab replied, 'May Yahweh multiply his people to a hundred times what they are today! But my lordking, are they not all my lord's servants in any case? Why should my lord insist on this? Why should he involveIsrael in guilt?'	3 E Gioab rispose: Il Signore aumenti il suo popolo cento volte più di quel, ch'egli è: ma non son eglino, o re mio signore, tutti quanti tuoi servi? Per qual motivo va cercando il signor mio di fare una cosa, che sarà imputata a peccato ad Israele?
4 But the king enforced his order on Joab, and Joab set out, travelled throughout al Israel, and thenreturned to Jerusalem.	4 Ma prevalse il parere del re: e Gioab andò, e fece il giro di tutto Israele: e tornò a Gerusalemme:
5 Joab gave David the census results for the people: al Israel had eleven hundred thousand men whocould wield a sword; Judah had four hundred and seventy thousand men who could wield a sword.	5 E portò a David i ruoli di que' luoghi, che avea già visitati: e tutto questo numero d'Israeliti si trovò essere di un milione, e cento mila uomini atti a maneggiar la spada: e quattrocento settanta mila combattenti di Giuda.
6 Joab had found the king's command so distasteful that he did not include Levi and Benjamin.	6 Perocché Gioab di mala voglia adempiendo l'ordine del re, non fece il censo di Levi, e di Beniamin.
7 God looked with displeasure on this and punished Israel in consequence.	7 E a Dio dispiacque il comandamento dato dal re; e punì Israele.
8 David then said to God, 'I have committed a grave sin by doing this. But now I beg you to forgive yourservant for this fault, for I have acted very foolishly.'	8 E David disse a Dio: Ho peccato grandemente facendo tal cosa: perdona, o Signore, l'iniquità del tuo servo, perchè io stoltamente ho operato.
9 Yahweh then spoke to Gad, David's seer,	9 E il Signore parlò a Gad Veggente di David, e disse;
10 'Go and say to David, "Yahweh says this: I offer you three things; choose which one of them I am toinflict on you." '	10 Va, e parla a Davidde, e digli: Il Signore dice così: Io ti do l'elezione di una di queste tre cose: scegli quella, che vorrai ricever da me.
11 So Gad went to David and said, 'Yahweh says this,	11 E Gad essendosi presentato a Davidde, disse: Queste cose dice il Signore: Scegli quel, che ti pare:
12 "Take your choice between three years of famine; or three months of disaster at the hands of yourenemies, with your enemies' sword overtaking you; or three days of Yahweh's sword, an epidemic in the country,while the angel of Yahweh wreaks havoc throughout the territory of Israel." Now decide how I am to answer himwho sends me.'	12 O la fame per tre anni: o per tre mesi andar fuggendo i tuoi nemici, senza poterti sottrarre alla spada loro: o che per tre dì la spada del Signore, e ,la pestilenza vada in giro per il paese, e che l'Angelo del Signore vada facendo strage in tutte le regioni d'Israele: ora vedi tu quel, ch'io debba rispondere a colui, che mi ha mandato.
13 David said to Gad, 'I am very apprehensive. Better for me to fal into Yahweh's hand, since hismercies are very great, than for me to fal into the hands of human enemies.'	13 Rispose Davidde a Gad: Dovunque io mi volga sono in angustie; ma è meglio per me il cader nelle mani del Signore (perocché molte sono le sue misericordie), che il cader nelle mani degli uomini.
14 So Yahweh unleashed an epidemic on Israel, and seventy thousand Israelites succumbed.	14 Mandò adunque il Signore la peste in Israele: e perirono d'Israele: settanta mila uomini.
15 Next, God sent the angel to Jerusalem to destroy it, but as he was about to destroy it, Yahwehlooked down and felt sorry about the calamity; and he said to the destroying angel, 'Enough now! Hold yourhand!' The angel of Yahweh was standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.	15 Mandò ancora l'Angelo a Gerusalemme per flagellarla: e mentre ell'era in desolazione, il Signore getto sopra di lei il suo sguardo, ed ebbe compassione di tanto male: e intimò all'Angelo sterminatore: Non più; trattieni la tua mano. Or l'Angelo del Signore si stava presso all'aia di Oman Jebuseo.
16 David, raising his eyes, saw the angel of Yahweh standing between earth and heaven, a drawnsword in his hand stretched out towards Jerusalem. David and the elders then put on sackcloth and fel on theirfaces,	16 E alzando Davidde i suoi occhi, vide l'Angelo del Signore, che stava tra cielo, e terra, e aveva in mano la spada sguainata volta contro Gerusalemme: e tanto egli, come i seniori vestiti di sacco, si prostraron bocconi per terra.
17 and David said to God, 'Did I not order the people to be counted? I was the one who sinned andactual y committed the wrong. But these, the flock, what have they done? Yahweh my God, let your hand lieheavy on me and on my family; but spare your people from the plague!'	17 E David disse a Dio: Non son io quegli, che ordinai, che si facesse il censo del popolo? Io sono, che ho peccato, io, che ho fatto il male: che ha meritato questo gregge? Signore Dio mio, rivolgi, ti prego, contro di me la tua mano, e contro la casa del padre mio: ma non sia flagellato il tuo popolo.
18 The angel of Yahweh then ordered Gad to tel David that David should go up and erect an altar toYahweh on the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.	18 E l'Angelo del Signore comandò a Gad, che dicesse a Davidde, che andasse ad ergere un altare al Signore Dio nell'aia di Oman Jebuseo.
19 So, at Gad's bidding, given in Yahweh's name, David went up.	19 Andò adunque David secondo quel, che gli avea detto Gad a nome del Signore.
20 Ornan had turned round and seen the angel, and he and his four sons with him had hidden.	20 Ma Oman, e i suoi quattro figliuoli nell'alzare gli occhi avendo veduto e l'Angelo, andarono a nascondersi: perocché allora battevano il grano nell'aia.
21 When David arrived Ornan was threshing wheat. He looked up and saw David and came off thethreshing-floor and prostrated himself on the ground at David's feet.	21 Ma in arrivando David a casa di Ornan, Ornan lo vide, e si mosse dall'aia verso di lui, e lo adorò inchinandosi fino a terra.
22 David then said to Ornan, 'Let me have the site of the threshing-floor, so that I can build an altar toYahweh on it; let me have it at the ful price -- so that the plague may be lifted from the people.' Ornan said toDavid,	22 E David gli disse: Dammi il sito della tua aia, prendendone tu il valore e in contanti, affinchè io vi edifichi un altare al Signore, onde non sia più flagellato il popolo.
23 'Take it, and let my lord the king do what he thinks fit. Look, I shal give you the oxen for burntofferings, the threshing-sleds for the wood and the wheat for the oblation. I shal give everything.'	23 E Oman disse a David: Prendila; o re signor mio, e fanne quel, che ti piace: anzi anche i bovi io do pell'olocausto, e le tregge per far il fuoco, e il grano pel sagrifizio: tutto volentieri darò.
24 'No,' said King David to Ornan, 'I insist on buying it at the ful price. I wil not offer Yahweh whatbelongs to you or bring burnt offerings which have cost me nothing.'	24 E il re David gli disse: Non sarà così, ma io ne pagherò il valore a denaro contante: perocché non debbo io togliere a te, e cosi offerire al Signore olocausti, che non mi costino nulla.
25 So David gave Ornan six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the site.	25 David dunque diede ad Oman per prezzo del luogo secento sicli d'oro di giusto peso.
26 There David built an altar to Yahweh and brought burnt offerings and peace offerings. He called onYahweh, and Yahweh answered him with fire from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.	26 E ivi edificò un altare al Signore, e offerì olocausti, e ostie pacifiche, e invocò il Signore, il quale lo esaudì, mandando fuoco dal cielo sull'altare dell'olocausto.
27 Then Yahweh ordered the angel to sheathe his sword.	27 E il Signore comandò all'Angelo di rimettere la spada nel fodero.
28 Whereupon, seeing that Yahweh had answered him on the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite,David offered sacrifice there.	28 E immediatamente Davidde veggendo, come il Signore lo aveva esaudito nell'aja di Oman Jebuseo, v'immolò delle vittime.
29 The Dwel ing which Moses had made in the desert and the altar of burnt offering were at that time onthe high place at Gibeon,	29 Or il tabernacolo del Signore fatto da Mosè nel deserto, e l'altare degli olocausti erano in quel tempo nel luogo eccelso di Gabaon.
30 but David could not go there to consult God because he was terrified of the angel's sword.	30 E David non ebbe forze per andare a quell'altare, per ivi pregare il Signore per l'eccessivo spavento, che aveva avuto al veder la spada dell'Angelo del Signore.
