1 This saying is trustworthy: whoever aspires to the office of bishop desires a noble task.	1 Es cierta esta afirmación: Si alguno aspira al cargo de espíscopo, desea una noble función.
2 Therefore, a bishop must be irreproachable, married only once, temperate, self-controlled, decent, hospitable, able to teach,	2 Es, pues, necesario que el epíscopo sea irreprensible, casado una sola vez, sobrio, sensato, educado, hospitalario, apto para enseñar,
3 not a drunkard, not aggressive, but gentle, not contentious, not a lover of money.	3 ni bebedor ni violento, sino moderado, enemigo de pendencias, desprendido del dinero,
4 He must manage his own household well, keeping his children under control with perfect dignity;	4 que gobierne bien su propia casa y mantenga sumisos a sus hijos con toda dignidad;
5 for if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how can he take care of the church of God?	5 pues si alguno no es capaz de gobernar su propia casa, ¿cómo podrá cuidar de la Iglesia de Dios?
6 He should not be a recent convert, so that he may not become conceited and thus incur the devil's punishment.	6 Que no sea neófito, no sea que, llevado por la soberbia, caiga en la misma condenación del Diablo.
7 He must also have a good reputation among outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, the devil's trap.	7 Es necesario también que tenga buena fama entre los de fuera, para que no caiga en descrédito y en las redes del Diablo.
8 Similarly, deacons must be dignified, not deceitful, not addicted to drink, not greedy for sordid gain,	8 También los diáconos deben ser dignos, sin doblez, no dados a beber mucho vino ni a negocios sucios;
9 holding fast to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience.	9 que guarden el Misterio de la fe con una conciencia pura.
10 Moreover, they should be tested first; then, if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.	10 Primero se les someterá a prueba y después, si fuesen irreprensibles, serán diáconos.
11 Women, similarly, should be dignified, not slanderers, but temperate and faithful in everything.	11 Las mujeres igualmente deben ser dignas, no calumniadoras, sobrias, fieles en todo.
12 Deacons may be married only once and must manage their children and their households well.	12 Los diáconos sean casados una sola vez y gobiernen bien a sus hijos y su propia casa.
13 Thus those who serve well as deacons gain good standing and much confidence in their faith in Christ Jesus.	13 Porque los que ejercen bien el diaconado alcanzan un puesto honroso y grande entereza en la fe de Cristo Jesús.
14 I am writing you about these matters, although I hope to visit you soon.	14 Te escribo estas cosas con la esperanza de ir pronto donde ti;
15 But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth.	15 pero si tardo, para que sepas cómo hay que portarse en la casa de Dios, que es la Iglesia de Dios vivo, columna y fundamento de la verdad.
16 Undeniably great is the mystery of devotion, Who was manifested in the flesh, vindicated in the spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed to the Gentiles, believed in throughout the world, taken up in glory.	16 Y sin duda alguna, grande es el Misterio de la piedad: El ha sido manifestado en la carne, justificado en el Espíritu, visto de los Angeles, proclamado a los gentiles, creído en el mundo, levantado a la gloria.
