Jeremiah 25

1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, king of Judah (the first year of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon).	1 Questa parola fu rivolta a Geremia per tutto il popolo di Giuda nel quarto anno del regno di Ioiakìm, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, cioè nel primo anno del regno di Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia.
2 This word the prophet Jeremiah spoke to all the people of Judah and all the citizens of Jerusalem:	2 Il profeta Geremia l’annunciò a tutto il popolo di Giuda e a tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme dicendo:
3 Since the thirteenth year of Josiah, son of Amon, king of Judah, to this day-these three and twenty years-the word of the LORD has come to me and I spoke to you untiringly, but you would not listen.	3 «Dall’anno tredicesimo del regno di Giosia, figlio di Amon, re di Giuda, fino ad oggi sono ventitré anni che mi è stata rivolta la parola del Signore e io ho parlato a voi con premura e insistenza, ma voi non avete ascoltato.
4 Though you refused to listen or pay heed, the LORD has sent you without fail all his servants the prophets	4 Il Signore vi ha inviato con assidua premura tutti i suoi servi, i profeti, ma voi non avete ascoltato e non avete prestato orecchio per ascoltare
5 with this message: Turn back, each of you, from your evil way and from your evil deeds; then you shall remain in the land which the LORD gave you and your fathers, from of old and forever.	5 quando vi diceva: “Ognuno abbandoni la sua condotta perversa e le sue opere malvagie; allora potrete abitare nella terra che il Signore ha dato a voi e ai vostri padri dai tempi antichi e per sempre.
6 Do not follow strange gods to serve and adore them, lest you provoke me with your handiwork, and I bring evil upon you.	6 Non seguite altri dèi per servirli e adorarli e non provocatemi con le opere delle vostre mani e io non vi farò del male.
7 But you would not listen to me, says the LORD, and so you provoked me with your handiwork to your own harm.	7 Ma voi non mi avete ascoltato – oracolo del Signore – e mi avete provocato con l’opera delle vostre mani per vostra disgrazia”.
8 Hence, thus says the LORD of hosts: Since you would not listen to my words,	8 Per questo dice il Signore degli eserciti: Poiché non avete ascoltato le mie parole,
9 lo! I will send for and fetch all the tribes of the north, says the LORD (and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, my servant); I will bring them against this land, against its inhabitants, and against all these neighboring nations. I will doom them, making them an object of horror, of ridicule, of everlasting reproach.	9 ecco, manderò a prendere tutte le tribù del settentrione – oracolo del Signore – e Nabucodònosor re di Babilonia, mio servo, e li farò venire contro questo paese, contro i suoi abitanti e contro tutte le nazioni confinanti, voterò costoro allo sterminio e li ridurrò a oggetto di orrore, a scherno e a obbrobrio perenne.
10 Among them I will bring to an end the song of joy and the song of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstone and the light of the lamp.	10 Farò cessare in mezzo a loro i canti di gioia e di allegria, il canto dello sposo e della sposa, il rumore della mola e il lume della lampada.
11 This whole land shall be a ruin and a desert. Seventy years these nations shall be enslaved to the king of Babylon;	11 Tutta questa regione sarà distrutta e desolata e queste genti serviranno il re di Babilonia per settanta anni.
12 but when the seventy years have elapsed, I will punish the king of Babylon and the nation and the land of the Chaldeans for their guilt, says the LORD. Their land I will turn into everlasting desert.	12 Quando saranno compiuti i settanta anni, punirò per i loro delitti il re di Babilonia e quel popolo – oracolo del Signore –, punirò il paese dei Caldei e lo ridurrò a una desolazione perenne.
13 Against that land I will fulfill all the words I have spoken against it (all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah prophesied against all the nations).	13 Manderò dunque a effetto su questo paese tutte le parole che ho pronunciato a suo riguardo, tutto quanto è scritto in questo libro, ciò che Geremia aveva profetizzato contro tutte le nazioni.
14 They also shall be enslaved to great nations and mighty kings, and thus I will repay them according to their own deeds and according to their own handiwork.	14 Nazioni numerose e re potenti ridurranno in schiavitù anche costoro, e così li ripagherò secondo le loro azioni e le opere delle loro mani».
15 For thus said the LORD, the God of Israel, to me: Take this cup of foaming wine from my hand, and have all the nations to whom I will send you drink it.	15 Così mi disse il Signore, Dio d’Israele: «Prendi dalla mia mano questa coppa di vino della mia ira e falla bere a tutte le nazioni alle quali ti invio,
16 They shall drink, and be convulsed, and go mad, because of the sword I will send among them.	16 perché ne bevano, ne restino inebriate ed escano di senno dinanzi alla spada che manderò in mezzo a loro».
17 I took the cup from the hand of the LORD and gave drink to all the nations to which the LORD sent me:	17 Presi dunque la coppa dalla mano del Signore e la diedi a bere a tutte le nazioni alle quali il Signore mi aveva inviato:
18 (Jerusalem, the cities of Judah, her kings and her princes, to make them a ruin and a desert, an object of ridicule and cursing, as they are today;)	18 a Gerusalemme e alle città di Giuda, ai re e ai capi, per abbandonarli alla distruzione, all’orrore, allo scherno e alla maledizione, come avviene ancora oggi;
19 Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and his servants, his princes, all the people under him, native	19 anche al faraone, re d’Egitto, ai suoi ministri, ai suoi nobili e a tutto il suo popolo,
20 and foreign; all the kings of the land of Uz; all the kings of the land of the Philistines: Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod;	20 alla gente d’ogni razza e a tutti i re del paese di Us, a tutti i re del paese dei Filistei, ad Àscalon, a Gaza, a Ekron e ai superstiti di Asdod,
21 Edom, Moab, and the Ammonites;	21 a Edom, a Moab e ad Ammon,
22 all the kings of Tyre, of Sidon, and of the shores beyond the sea;	22 a tutti i re di Tiro e a tutti i re di Sidone e ai re dell’isola che è al di là del mare,
23 Dedan and Tema and Buz, all the desert dwellers who shave their temples;	23 a Dedan, a Tema, a Buz e a quanti si radono le tempie,
24 (all the kings of Arabia;)	24 a tutti i re degli Arabi che abitano nel deserto,
25 all the kings of Zimri, of Elam, of the Medes;	25 a tutti i re di Zimrì, a tutti i re dell’Elam e a tutti i re della Media,
26 all the kings of the north, near and far, one after the other; all the kingdoms upon the face of the earth (and after them the king of Sheshach shall drink).	26 a tutti i re del settentrione, vicini e lontani, agli uni e agli altri e a tutti i regni che sono sulla terra; il re di Sesac berrà dopo di loro.
27 Tell them: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink! become drunk and vomit; fall, never to rise, before the sword that I will send among you!	27 «Tu riferirai loro: Dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele: Bevete e inebriatevi, vomitate e cadete senza rialzarvi davanti alla spada che io mando in mezzo a voi.
28 If they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink, say to them: Thus says the LORD of hosts: You must drink!	28 Se poi rifiuteranno di prendere dalla tua mano la coppa da bere, tu dirai loro: Dice il Signore degli eserciti: Berrete per forza!
29 For since with this city, which is called by my name, I begin to inflict evil, how can you possibly be spared? You shall not be spared! I will call down the sword upon all who inhabit the earth, says the LORD of hosts.	29 Ecco, io comincio a castigare la città che porta il mio nome, e voi pretendete di rimanere impuniti? No, non resterete impuniti, perché io farò venire la spada su tutti gli abitanti della terra. Oracolo del Signore degli eserciti.
30 Prophesy against them all these things and say to them: The LORD roars from on high, from his holy dwelling he raises his voice; Mightily he roars over the range, a shout like that of vintagers over the grapes.	30 Profetizzerai tutte queste cose e dirai loro: Il Signore ruggisce dall’alto, dalla sua santa dimora fa udire la sua voce; alza il suo ruggito contro la prateria, manda grida di giubilo come i pigiatori delle uve, contro tutti gli abitanti della terra.
31 To all who inhabit the earth to its very ends the uproar spreads; For the LORD has an indictment against the nations, he is to pass judgment upon all mankind: The godless shall be given to the sword, says the LORD.	31 Il rumore giunge fino all’estremità della terra, perché il Signore fa un processo alle nazioni; chiama in giudizio ogni uomo, condanna a morte gli empi. Oracolo del Signore.
32 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Lo! calamity stalks from nation to nation; A great storm is unleashed from the ends of the earth.	32 Dice il Signore degli eserciti: Ecco, la sventura passa di nazione in nazione, si alza un grande turbine dall’estremità della terra».
33 On that day, those whom the LORD has slain will be strewn from one end of the earth to the other. None will mourn them, none will gather them for burial; they shall lie like dung on the field.	33 In quel giorno i colpiti dal Signore si troveranno da un’estremità all’altra della terra; non saranno rimpianti né raccolti né sepolti, ma diverranno come letame sul suolo.
34 Howl, you shepherds, and wail! roll in the dust, leaders of the flock! The time for your slaughter has come; like choice rams you shall fall.	34 Urlate, pastori, gridate, rotolatevi nella polvere, capi del gregge! Perché sono giunti i giorni del vostro macello; stramazzerete come vaso prezioso.
35 There is no flight for the shepherds, no escape for the leaders of the flock.	35 Non ci sarà rifugio per i pastori né scampo per i capi del gregge.
36 Listen! Wailing from the shepherds, howling by the leaders of the flock! For the LORD lays waste their grazing place,	36 Voci e grida dei pastori, urla delle guide del gregge, perché il Signore distrugge il loro pascolo;
37 desolate lie the peaceful pastures;	37 sono devastati i prati tranquilli a causa dell’ardente ira del Signore.
38 The lion leaves his lair, and their land is made desolate By the sweeping sword, by the burning wrath of the LORD.	38 Il leone abbandona la sua tana, la loro terra è diventata una desolazione, a causa della spada devastatrice e della sua ira ardente.
