Isaiah 57

1 The just man perishes, but no one takes it to heart; Devout men are swept away, with no one giving it a thought. Though he is taken away from the presence of evil, the just man	1 E o justo perece sem que ninguém se aperceba; as pessoas de bem são arrebatadas e ninguém se importa;
2 enters into peace; There is rest on his couch for the sincere, straightforward man.	2 por causa do mal, o justo é arrebatado para entrar na paz; repousam sobre seus leitos aqueles que seguiam o caminho reto.
3 But you, draw near, you sons of a sorceress, adulterous, wanton race!	3 E vós, aproximai-vos, filhos da feiticeira, descendência da mulher adúltera e devassa!
4 Of whom do you make sport, at whom do you open wide your mouth, and put out your tongue? Are you not rebellious children, a worthless race;	4 De quem vos escarneceis? A quem fazeis caretas e mostrais a língua? Não sois filhos do pecado, raça bastarda?
5 You who are in heat among the terebinths, under every green tree; You who immolate children in the wadies, behind the crevices in the cliffs?	5 Vós vos abrasais sob os arvoredos de terebintos e sob qualquer árvore verde; vós imolais crianças no leito das torrentes e nas cavernas dos rochedos.
6 Among the smooth stones of the wadi is your portion, these are your lot; To these you poured out libations, and brought offerings. Should I decide not to punish these things?	6 As pedras polidas da torrente, eis o que te toca, sim, eis o teu quinhão; tu lhes ofereces libações, preparas-lhes oferendas. {Posso a isso resignar-me?}
7 Upon a high and lofty mountain you made your bed, and there you went up to offer sacrifice.	7 Sobre o cume de elevada montanha preparas teu leito, e é aí que sobes para oferecer sacrifícios.
8 Behind the door and the doorpost you placed your indecent symbol. Deserting me, you spread out your high, wide bed; And of those whose embraces you love you carved the symbol and gazed upon it	8 Por trás da porta e seus umbrais, colocas teu emblema, porque não foi para mim que tu te descobriste, que estendeste a cama onde subiste; vais assalariar para ti aqueles com quem desejas ter negócios; admirando o ídolo, multiplicaste com eles as prostituições.
9 While you approached the king with scented oil, and multiplied your perfumes; While you sent your ambassadors far away, down even to the nether world.	9 Depois corres a Melec com óleos, és pródiga em aromas, envias ao longe teus mensageiros, e os fazes descer à morada dos mortos.
10 Though worn out by your many misdeeds, you never said, "It is hopeless"; New strength you found, and so you did not weaken.	10 De tanto andar assim, tu te fatigas, sem jamais dizer: já basta; encontras ainda força, e segues sem parar.
11 Of whom were you afraid? Whom did you fear, that you became false And did not remember me or give me any thought? Was I to remain silent and unseeing, so that you would not have me to fear?	11 A quem temias então? De quem tinhas medo, para ser infiel, para não te lembrares de mim nem te preocupares comigo? Sem dúvida eu me calava e fechava os olhos; por isso tu não me temias.
12 I will expose your justice and your works;	12 Pois bem, vou mostrar o que valem tua justiça e tuas obras! Elas não te servirão de coisa alguma,
13 They shall not help you when you cry out, nor save you in your distress. All these the wind shall carry off, the breeze shall bear away; But he who takes refuge in me shall inherit the land, and possess my holy mountain.	13 quando pedires socorro. E não te salvarão teus ídolos: todos serão levados pelo vento. Um sopro as carregará. Aquele, porém, que contar comigo herdará a terra, e possuirá meu monte santo.
14 Build up, build up, prepare the way, remove the stumbling blocks from my people's path.	14 {Será dito:} Abri, abri a estrada, aplanai-a! Retirai do caminho de meu povo todo obstáculo!
15 For thus says he who is high and exalted, living eternally, whose name is the Holy One: On high I dwell, and in holiness, and with the crushed and dejected in spirit, To revive the spirits of the dejected, to revive the hearts of the crushed.	15 Porque eis o que diz o Altíssimo, cuja morada é eterna e o nome santo: Habitando como Santo uma elevada morada, auxilio todavia o homem atormentado e humilhado; venho reanimar os humildes, e levantar os ânimos abatidos.
16 I will not accuse forever, nor always be angry; For their spirits would faint before me, the souls that I have made.	16 Realmente, não desejo controvérsias sem fim, nem persistir sempre no descontentamento, senão o espírito desfalecerá diante de mim, assim como as almas que criei.
17 Because of their wicked avarice I was angry, and struck them, hiding myself in wrath, as they went their own rebellious way.	17 Por causa do crime de meu povo me irritei um momento; feri-o, dando-lhe as costas na minha indignação, enquanto o rebelde agia segundo sua fantasia.
18 I saw their ways, but I will heal them and lead them; I will give full comfort to them and to those who mourn for them,	18 Vi sua conduta, disse o Senhor, e o curarei. Vou guiá-lo e consolá-lo,
19 I, the Creator, who gave them life. Peace, peace to the far and the near, says the LORD; and I will heal them.	19 vou fazer assomar aos lábios dos aflitos a ação de graças. Paz, paz àquele que está longe e àquele que está perto.
20 But the wicked are like the tossing sea which cannot be calmed, And its waters cast up mud and filth.	20 Mas os ímpios são como um mar encapelado, que não pode acalmar-se, cujas ondas revolvem lodo e lama.
21 No peace for the wicked! says my God.	21 Não há paz para os ímpios, diz meu Deus.
