1 Sodann fiel dem Stamm Manasse – dieser war nämlich der erstgeborene Sohn Josephs – sein Losanteil zu. Machir, dem erstgeborenen Sohne Manasses, dem Vater Gileads, wurde Gilead und Basan zuteil, denn er war ein Kriegsmann.	1 Then allotment was made to the tribe of Manasseh, for he was the first-born of Joseph. To Machir the first-born of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, were allotted Gilead and Bashan, because he was a man of war.
2 Sodann erhielten die übrigen Nachkommen Manasses, Geschlecht für Geschlecht, ihren Anteil, nämlich die Nachkommen Abiesers, die Nachkommen Heleks, die Nachkommen Asriels, die Nachkommen Sichems, die Nachkommen Hephers und die Nachkommen Semidas; dies waren die männlichen Nachkommen Manasses, des Sohnes Josephs, Geschlecht für Geschlecht.	2 And allotments were made to the rest of the tribe of Manasseh, by their families, Abi-ezer, Helek, Asri-el, Shechem, Hepher, and Shemida; these were the male descendants of Manasseh the son of Joseph, by their families.
3 Aber Zelophhad, der Sohn Hephers, des Sohnes Gileads, des Sohnes Machirs, des Sohnes Manasses, hatte keine Söhne, sondern nur Töchter; deren Namen waren Mahla, Noa, Hogla, Milka und Thirza.	3 Now Zelophehad the son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, had no sons, but only daughters; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
4 Diese traten nun vor den Priester Eleasar und vor Josua, den Sohn Nuns, und vor die Fürsten und sagten: »Der HERR hat Mose geboten, uns ein Erbteil unter unsern Stammesgenossen zu geben.« Da überwies er (oder: man) ihnen nach dem Befehl des HERRN ein Erbteil unter den Stammesgenossen ihres Vaters;	4 They came before Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun and the leaders, and said, "The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance along with our brethren." So according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father.
5 und so fielen dem Stamm Manasse zehn Losanteile zu, abgesehen von der Landschaft Gilead und Basan, die jenseits des Jordans liegen;	5 Thus there fell to Manasseh ten portions, besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is on the other side of the Jordan;
6 denn die weiblichen Nachkommen Manasses erhielten ein Erbteil gerade wie seine männlichen Nachkommen; die Landschaft Gilead aber kam an die übrigen Nachkommen Manasses.	6 because the daughters of Manasseh received an inheritance along with his sons. The land of Gilead was allotted to the rest of the Manassites.
7 Es geht aber die Grenze des Stammes Manasse von Asser nach Michmethath, das östlich von Sichem liegt; dann geht die Grenze südwärts zu den Bewohnern von En-Thappuah hin.	7 The territory of Manasseh reached from Asher to Mich-methath, which is east of Shechem; then the boundary goes along southward to the inhabitants of En-tappuah.
8 Die Landschaft Thappuah gehört zum Stamm Manasse; die Stadt Thappuah selbst aber, an der Grenze von Manasse, gehört zum Stamme Ephraim.	8 The land of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh, but the town of Tappuah on the boundary of Manasseh belonged to the sons of Ephraim.
9 Dann geht die Grenze hinab zum Bache Kana, südlich von dem Bache – die dort mitten unter den Städten Manasses liegenden Ortschaften gehören zum Stamm Ephraim –; alsdann aber läuft die Grenze nördlich vom Bache und endet am Meer;	9 Then the boundary went down to the brook Kanah. The cities here, to the south of the brook, among the cities of Manasseh, belong to Ephraim. Then the boundary of Manasseh goes on the north side of the brook and ends at the sea;
10 die Südseite ist ephraimitisch, die Nordseite manassitisch, und das Meer bildet hier die Grenze; nordwärts aber stoßen sie an Asser, ostwärts an Issaschar.	10 the land to the south being Ephraim's and that to the north being Manassehs, with the sea forming its boundary; on the north Asher is reached, and on the east Issachar.
11 Außerdem erhielt der Stamm Manasse in Issaschar und in Asser folgende Städte: Beth-Sean mit den zugehörigen Ortschaften, ferner Jibleam mit den zugehörigen Ortschaften sowie die Bewohner von Dor und von En-Dor mit den zugehörigen Ortschaften, die Bewohner von Thaanach mit den zugehörigen Ortschaften und die Bewohner von Megiddo mit den zugehörigen Ortschaften: das Dreihügelgebiet. –	11 Also in Issachar and in Asher Manasseh had Beth-shean and its villages, and Ibleam and its villages, and the inhabitants of Dor and its villages, and the inhabitants of En-dor and its villages, and the inhabitants of Taanach and its villages, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its villages; the third is Naphath.
12 Der Stamm Manasse vermochte jedoch nicht diese Städte zu erobern; daher gelang es den Kanaanäern, in dieser Gegend wohnen zu bleiben.	12 Yet the sons of Manasseh could not take possession of those cities; but the Canaanites persisted in dwelling in that land.
13 Als später aber die Israeliten erstarkten, machten sie die Kanaanäer fronpflichtig, ohne sie jedoch ganz vertreiben zu können.	13 But when the people of Israel grew strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and did not utterly drive them out.
14 Da wandten sich die beiden Josephstämme an Josua und trugen ihm folgendes vor: »Warum hast du mir nur ein Los und einen einzigen Anteil als Erbbesitz gegeben, obgleich ich doch ein zahlreiches Volk bin, da der HERR mich bisher gesegnet hat?«	14 And the tribe of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, "Why have you given me but one lot and one portion as an inheritance, although I am a numerous people, since hitherto the LORD has blessed me?"
15 Josua antwortete ihnen: »Wenn du ein zahlreiches Volk bist, so ziehe doch in den Wald hinauf und schaffe dir dort im Lande der Pherissiter und der Rephaiter durch Ausroden des Waldes Raum zum Wohnen, wenn (oder: weil) dir das Bergland Ephraim zu enge ist.«	15 And Joshua said to them, "If you are a numerous people, go up to the forest, and there clear ground for yourselves in the land of the Perizzites and the Rephaim, since the hill country of Ephraim is too narrow for you."
16 Da entgegneten die Nachkommen Josephs: »Das Bergland reicht für uns nicht aus; alle Kanaanäer aber, die unten in der Ebene wohnen, haben eiserne Streitwagen, sowohl die, welche in Beth-Sean und den zugehörigen Ortschaften, als auch die, welche in der Ebene Jesreel wohnen.«	16 The tribe of Joseph said, "The hill country is not enough for us; yet all the Canaanites who dwell in the plain have chariots of iron, both those in Beth-shean and its villages and those in the Valley of Jezreel."
17 Da antwortete Josua den beiden Josephstämmen Ephraim und Manasse: »Du bist ein sehr zahlreiches und sehr starkes Volk; so sollst du nicht nur ein Los erhalten;	17 Then Joshua said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasseh, "You are a numerous people, and have great power; you shall not have one lot only,
18 denn ein Bergland wird dir zuteil werden. Da es Wald ist, mußt du ihn ausroden: dann werden auch die Ausläufer (d.h. die anliegenden Gegenden) dir zuteil werden; denn du wirst die Kanaanäer vertreiben, wenn sie auch eiserne Wagen haben und wenn sie auch stark sind.«	18 but the hill country shall be yours, for though it is a forest, you shall clear it and possess it to its farthest borders; for you shall drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots of iron, and though they are strong."
