KING JAMES BIBLESAGRADA BIBLIA
And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.1 Depois, ele partiu dali e foi para a sua pátria, seguido de seus discípulos.
And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?2 Quando chegou o dia de sábado, começou a ensinar na sinagoga. Muitos o ouviam e, tomados de admiração, diziam: Donde lhe vem isso? Que sabedoria é essa que lhe foi dada, e como se operam por suas mãos tão grandes milagres?
Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.3 Não é ele o carpinteiro, o filho de Maria, o irmão de Tiago, de José, de Judas e de Simão? Não vivem aqui entre nós também suas irmãs? E ficaram perplexos a seu respeito.
But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.4 Mas Jesus disse-lhes: Um profeta só é desprezado na sua pátria, entre os seus parentes e na sua própria casa.
And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.5 Não pôde fazer ali milagre algum. Curou apenas alguns poucos enfermos, impondo-lhes as mãos.
And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.6 Admirava-se ele da desconfiança deles. E ensinando, percorria as aldeias circunvizinhas.
And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;7 Então chamou os Doze e começou a enviá-los, dois a dois; e deu-lhes poder sobre os espíritos imundos.
And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:8 Ordenou-lhes que não levassem coisa alguma para o caminho, senão somente um bordão; nem pão, nem mochila, nem dinheiro no cinto;
But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.9 como calçado, unicamente sandálias, e que se não revestissem de duas túnicas.
And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place.10 E disse-lhes: Em qualquer casa em que entrardes, ficai nela, até vos retirardes dali.
And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.11 Se em algum lugar não vos receberem nem vos escutarem, saí dali e sacudi o pó dos vossos pés em testemunho contra ele.
And they went out, and preached that men should repent.12 Eles partiram e pregaram a penitência.
And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.13 Expeliam numerosos demônios, ungiam com óleo a muitos enfermos e os curavam.
And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.14 O rei Herodes ouviu falar de Jesus, cujo nome se tornara célebre. Dizia-se: João Batista ressurgiu dos mortos e por isso o poder de fazer milagres opera nele.
Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.15 Uns afirmavam: É Elias! Diziam outros: É um profeta como qualquer outro.
But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.16 Ouvindo isto, Herodes repetia: É João, a quem mandei decapitar. Ele ressuscitou!
For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her.17 Pois o próprio Herodes mandara prender João e acorrentá-lo no cárcere, por causa de Herodíades, mulher de seu irmão Filipe, com a qual ele se tinha casado.
For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.18 João tinha dito a Herodes: Não te é permitido ter a mulher de teu irmão.
Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:19 Por isso Herodíades o odiava e queria matá-lo, não o conseguindo, porém.
For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.20 Pois Herodes respeitava João, sabendo que era um homem justo e santo; protegia-o e, quando o ouvia, sentia-se embaraçado. Mas, mesmo assim, de boa mente o ouvia.
And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;21 Chegou, porém, um dia favorável em que Herodes, por ocasião do seu natalício, deu um banquete aos grandes de sua corte, aos seus oficiais e aos principais da Galiléia.
And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.22 A filha de Herodíades apresentou-se e pôs-se a dançar, com grande satisfação de Herodes e dos seus convivas. Disse o rei à moça: Pede-me o que quiseres, e eu to darei.
And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.23 E jurou-lhe: Tudo o que me pedires te darei, ainda que seja a metade do meu reino.
And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.24 Ela saiu e perguntou à sua mãe: Que hei de pedir? E a mãe respondeu: A cabeça de João Batista.
And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.25 Tornando logo a entrar apressadamente à presença do rei, exprimiu-lhe seu desejo: Quero que sem demora me dês a cabeça de João Batista.
And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.26 O rei entristeceu-se; todavia, por causa da sua promessa e dos convivas, não quis recusar.
And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,27 Sem tardar, enviou um carrasco com a ordem de trazer a cabeça de João. Ele foi, decapitou João no cárcere,
And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.28 trouxe a sua cabeça num prato e a deu à moça, e esta a entregou à sua mãe.
And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.29 Ouvindo isto, os seus discípulos foram tomar o seu corpo e o depositaram num sepulcro.
And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.30 Os apóstolos voltaram para junto de Jesus e contaram-lhe tudo o que haviam feito e ensinado.
And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.31 Ele disse-lhes: Vinde à parte, para algum lugar deserto, e descansai um pouco. Porque eram muitos os que iam e vinham e nem tinham tempo para comer.
And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.32 Partiram na barca para um lugar solitário, à parte.
And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.33 Mas viram-nos partir. Por isso, muitos deles perceberam para onde iam, e de todas as cidades acorreram a pé para o lugar aonde se dirigiam, e chegaram primeiro que eles.
And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.34 Ao desembarcar, Jesus viu uma grande multidão e compadeceu-se dela, porque era como ovelhas que não têm pastor. E começou a ensinar-lhes muitas coisas.
And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:35 A hora já estava bem avançada quando se achegaram a ele os seus discípulos e disseram: Este lugar é deserto, e já é tarde.
Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.36 Despede-os, para irem aos sítios e aldeias vizinhas a comprar algum alimento.
He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?37 Mas ele respondeu-lhes: Dai-lhes vós mesmos de comer. Replicaram-lhe: Iremos comprar duzentos denários de pão para dar-lhes de comer?
He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.38 Ele perguntou-lhes: Quantos pães tendes? Ide ver. Depois de se terem informado, disseram: Cinco, e dois peixes.
And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.39 Ordenou-lhes que mandassem todos sentar-se, em grupos, na relva verde.
And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.40 E assentaram-se em grupos de cem e de cinqüenta.
And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.41 Então tomou os cinco pães e os dois peixes e, erguendo os olhos ao céu, abençoou-os, partiu-os e os deu a seus discípulos, para que lhos distribuíssem, e repartiu entre todos os dois peixes.
And they did all eat, and were filled.42 Todos comeram e ficaram fartos.
And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.43 Recolheram do que sobrou doze cestos cheios de pedaços, e os restos dos peixes.
And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.44 Foram cinco mil os homens que haviam comido daqueles pães.
And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.45 Imediatamente ele obrigou os seus discípulos a subirem para a barca, para que chegassem antes dele à outra margem, em frente de Betsaida, enquanto ele mesmo despedia o povo.
And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.46 E despedido que foi o povo, retirou-se ao monte para orar.
And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.47 À noite, achava-se a barca no meio do lago e ele, a sós, em terra.
And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.48 Vendo-os se fatigarem em remar, sendo-lhes o vento contrário, foi ter com eles pela quarta vigília da noite, andando por cima do mar, e fez como se fosse passar ao lado deles.
But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:49 À vista de Jesus, caminhando sobre o mar, pensaram que fosse um fantasma e gritaram;
For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.50 pois todos o viram e se assustaram. Mas ele logo lhes falou: Tranqüilizai-vos, sou eu; não vos assusteis!
And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.51 E subiu para a barca, junto deles, e o vento cessou. Todos se achavam tomados de um extremo pavor,
For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.52 pois ainda não tinham compreendido o caso dos pães; os seus corações estavam insensíveis.
And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.53 Navegaram para o outro lado e chegaram à região de Genesaré, onde aportaram.
And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,54 Assim que saíram da barca, o povo o reconheceu.
And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.55 Percorrendo toda aquela região, começaram a levar, em leitos, os que padeciam de algum mal, para o lugar onde ouviam dizer que ele se encontrava.
And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.56 Onde quer que ele entrasse, fosse nas aldeias ou nos povoados, ou nas cidades, punham os enfermos nas ruas e pediam-lhe que os deixassem tocar ao menos na orla de suas vestes. E todos os que tocavam em Jesus ficavam sãos.
