Sirach 26

1 Blessed is the man that hath a virtuous wife, for the number of his days shall be double.	1 - Beato il marito della donna dabbene, perchè sarà raddoppiato il numero de' suoi anni.
2 A virtuous woman rejoiceth her husband, and he shall fulfil the years of his life in peace.	2 La donna forte rallegra suo marito, e gli fa compiere in pace gli anni di sua vita.
3 A good wife is a good portion, which shall be given in the portion of them that fear the Lord.	3 Buon capitale una donna per bene: sarà assegnata a quei che temono il Signore, all'uomo per le sue buone opere.
4 Whether a man be rich or poor, if he have a good heart toward the Lord, he shall at all times rejoice with a cheerful countenance.	4 Del ricco e del povero è contento [allora] il cuore, e lieta in ogni tempo la loro faccia.
5 There be three things that mine heart feareth; and for the fourth I was sore afraid: the slander of a city, the gathering together of an unruly multitude, and a false accusation: all these are worse than death.	5 Di tre cose ha timore il cuor mio, e della quarta ha paura la mia faccia:
6 But a grief of heart and sorrow is a woman that is jealous over another woman, and a scourge of the tongue which communicateth with all.	6 la mormorazione della città e la radunata del popolo
7 An evil wife is a yoke shaken to and fro: he that hath hold of her is as though he held a scorpion.	7 e la falsa calunnia, cose tutte più odiose della morte;
8 A drunken woman and a gadder abroad causeth great anger, and she will not cover her own shame.	8 ambascia di cuore e cordoglio è una donna gelosa,
9 The whoredom of a woman may be known in her haughty looks and eyelids.	9 [poiché c'è] nella donna gelosa il flagello della lingua che a tutti racconta [i suoi presunti guai].
10 If thy daughter be shameless, keep her in straitly, lest she abuse herself through overmuch liberty.	10 Come un paio di buoi agitati è una donna malvagia: chi l'ha, è come chi piglia uno scorpione.
11 Watch over an impudent eye: and marvel not if she trespass against thee.	11 Una donna ubriacone è una gran passione, e la vergogna e l'onta sua non sarà coperta.
12 She will open her mouth, as a thirsty traveller when he hath found a fountain, and drink of every water near her: by every hedge will she sit down, and open her quiver against every arrow.	12 L'impudicizia d'una donna dalla sfrontatezza degli occhi e dalle sue palpebre si riconosce.
13 The grace of a wife delighteth her husband, and her discretion will fatten his bones.	13 Sopra una figliuola che non conosce ritrosia rafferma la vigilanza, perchè, trovata l'occasione, non abusi di sè.
14 A silent and loving woman is a gift of the Lord; and there is nothing so much worth as a mind well instructed.	14 Sta in guardia contro ogni imprudenza de' suoi occhi, e non ti meravigliare se non si dà pensiero di te.
15 A shamefaced and faithful woman is a double grace, and her continent mind cannot be valued.	15 Come il viandante assetato apre la bocca alla fonte, e beve d'ogni acqua che gli è vicina, [cosi l'impudica] si sederà contro ogni palo, e ad ogni freccia aprirà la faretra finché venga meno,
16 As the sun when it ariseth in the high heaven; so is the beauty of a good wife in the ordering of her house.	16 La grazia d'una donna operosa allieta il marito, e le ossa ne impingua
17 As the clear light is upon the holy candlestick; so is the beauty of the face in ripe age.	17 la sua abilità. Un dono di Dio è
18 As the golden pillars are upon the sockets of silver; so are the fair feet with a constant heart.	18 la donna sensata e silenziosa: e non c'è nulla che valga una persona ben educata.
19 My son, keep the flower of thine age sound; and give not thy strength to strangers.	19 Grazia su grazia è una donna santa e pudica,
20 When thou hast gotten a fruitful possession through all the field, sow it with thine own seed, trusting in the goodness of thy stock.	20 e non c'è peso che bilanci un'anima casta.
21 So thy race which thou leavest shall be magnified, having the confidence of their good descent.	21 Come il sole che si leva per il mondo nell'empireo del Signore, così [rifulge] la bellezza d'una donna ad ornamento della sua [casa].
22 An harlot shall be accounted as spittle; but a married woman is a tower against death to her husband.	22 La lucerna risplende sul santo candelabro, e l'avvenenza del volto su salda statura.
23 A wicked woman is given as a portion to a wicked man: but a godly woman is given to him that feareth the Lord.	23 [Come] colonne d'oro su basi d'argento, così posano i piedi sulle piante di solida donna.
24 A dishonest woman contemneth shame: but an honest woman will reverence her husband.	24 Eterne son le fondamenta su solida pietra, e i comandamenti di Dio nel cuore d'una santa donna.
25 A shameless woman shall be counted as a dog; but she that is shamefaced will fear the Lord.	25 Di due cose s'attrista il mio cuore, e per una terza mi viene sdegno:
26 A woman that honoureth her husband shall be judged wise of all; but she that dishonoureth him in her pride shall be counted ungodly of all.	26 il guerriero privo del necessario per miseria, e l'uomo d'ingegno disprezzato,
27 A loud crying woman and a scold shall be sought out to drive away the enemies.	27 e chi dalla giustizia torna al peccato: costui il Signore lo serba alla spada.
28 There be two things that grieve my heart; and the third maketh me angry: a man of war that suffereth poverty; and men of understanding that are not set by; and one that returneth from righteousness to sin; the Lord prepareth such an one for the sword.	28 Due professioni mi sembrano difficili e pericolose: difficilmente il negoziante si libera da trasgressioni, e l'oste non sarà immune da' peccati di labbra.
29 A merchant shall hardly keep himself from doing wrong; and an huckster shall not be freed from sin.
