Sirach 20

KING JAMES BIBLE	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 There is a reproof that is not comely: again, some man holdeth his tongue, and he is wise.	1 Oh! quanto melhor é admoestar que irritar-se, e não impedir de falar aquele que quer confessar a sua falta!
2 It is much better to reprove, than to be angry secretly: and he that confesseth his fault shall be preserved from hurt.	2 Como o eunuco que anseia por violentar uma donzela,
3 How good is it, when thou art reproved, to shew repentance! for so shalt thou escape wilful sin.	3 assim é o que, por violência, faz um julgamento iníquo.
4 As is the lust of an eunuch to deflower a virgin; so is he that executeth judgment with violence.	4 Como é bom que o corrigido manifeste o seu arrependimento! Pois assim se evita um pecado voluntário.
5 There is one that keepeth silence, and is found wise: and another by much babbling becometh hateful.	5 Há quem se cale e é considerado sábio, e quem se torne odioso pela intemperança no falar.
6 Some man holdeth his tongue, because he hath not to answer: and some keepeth silence, knowing his time.	6 Há quem se cale por não saber falar, e há quem se cale porque reconhece quando é tempo (de falar).
7 A wise man will hold his tongue till he see opportunity: but a babbler and a fool will regard no time.	7 O sábio permanece calado até o momento (oportuno), mas o leviano e imprudente não espera a ocasião.
8 He that useth many words shall be abhorred; and he that taketh to himself authority therein shall be hated.	8 Aquele que se expande em palavras, prejudica-se a si mesmo; quem se permite todo o desregramento torna-se odioso.
9 There is a sinner that hath good success in evil things; and there is a gain that turneth to loss.	9 Para o homem desprovido de instrução há proveito na infelicidade, mas há certas descobertas que lhe acarretam a ruína.
10 There is a gift that shall not profit thee; and there is a gift whose recompence is double.	10 Há dom que não é útil. e há dom que é duplamente recompensado.
11 There is an abasement because of glory; and there is that lifteth up his head from a low estate.	11 Há quem ache a sua perda na própria glória, e há quem levantará a cabeça após uma humilhação.
12 There is that buyeth much for a little, and repayeth it sevenfold.	12 Há quem compre muito por um preço módico, mas que (de fato) o paga pelo sétuplo do seu valor.
13 A wise man by his words maketh him beloved: but the graces of fools shall be poured out.	13 O sábio torna-se amável por suas palavras, enquanto que os encantos do insensato desaparecem.
14 The gift of a fool shall do thee no good when thou hast it; neither yet of the envious for his necessity: for he looketh to receive many things for one.	14 O donativo do insensato não te trará proveito, pois ele te fixa com sete olhos.
15 He giveth little, and upbraideth much; he openeth his mouth like a crier; to day he lendeth, and to morrow will he ask it again: such an one is to be hated of God and man.	15 Ele dá pouco e censura muitas vezes; quando abre a sua boca é como uma fogueira.
16 The fool saith, I have no friends, I have no thank for all my good deeds, and they that eat my bread speak evil of me.	16 Há quem empresta hoje e amanhã o reclama. Tal homem é odioso.
17 How oft, and of how many shall he be laughed to scorn! for he knoweth not aright what it is to have; and it is all one unto him as if he had it not.	17 O insensato não tem amigos, e pelo bem que faz não será bem acatado,
18 To slip upon a pavement is better than to slip with the tongue: so the fall of the wicked shall come speedily.	18 porque os que comem o seu pão têm línguas falsas; quantas e quantas vezes não zombarão dele?
19 An unseasonable tale will always be in the mouth of the unwise.	19 Pois não agiu com bom senso, distribuindo o que devia guardar e o que não devia guardar.
20 A wise sentence shall be rejected when it cometh out of a fool's mouth; for he will not speak it in due season.	20 A queda de uma língua mentirosa é como uma queda na laje; assim a ruína dos maus virá de repente.
21 There is that is hindered from sinning through want: and when he taketh rest, he shall not be troubled.	21 Um homem desagradável é como uma história ruim, que se acha continuamente na boca das pessoas mal-educadas.
22 There is that destroyeth his own soul through bashfulness, and by accepting of persons overthroweth himself.	22 Será mal recebida a máxima que sair da boca do insensato, pois que ele a diz fora de tempo.
23 There is that for bashfulness promiseth to his friend, and maketh him his enemy for nothing.	23 Há quem se abstenha de pecar por falta de meios, mas ressente o aguilhão do pecado até em seu repouso.
24 A lie is a foul blot in a man, yet it is continually in the mouth of the untaught.	24 Há quem perca a sua alma por causa do respeito humano; perde-a, cedendo a uma pessoa imprudente; perde-se por atender demasiadamente a uma pessoa.
25 A thief is better than a man that is accustomed to lie: but they both shall have destruction to heritage.	25 Há quem, por falsa vergonha, faça uma promessa a um amigo, e dele se faça gratuitamente um inimigo.
26 The disposition of a liar is dishonourable, and his shame is ever with him.	26 A mentira é no homem uma vergonhosa mancha: não deixa os lábios das pessoas mal-educadas.
27 A wise man shall promote himself to honour with his words: and he that hath understanding will please great men.	27 Mais vale um ladrão do que um mentiroso contumaz, mas ambos terão a ruína como partilha.
28 He that tilleth his land shall increase his heap: and he that pleaseth great men shall get pardon for iniquity.	28 O comportamento dos mentirosos é aviltante, sua vergonha jamais os abandonará.
29 Presents and gifts blind the eyes of the wise, and stop up his mouth that he cannot reprove.	29 O sábio atrai a si a estima por suas palavras; o homem prudente agradará aos poderosos.
30 Wisdom that is hid, and treasure that is hoarded up, what profit is in them both?	30 Quem cultiva sua terra colherá montes de frutos; quem cultiva a justiça será ele próprio elevado; quem agrada aos poderosos fugirá da iniqüidade.
31 Better is he that hideth his folly than a man that hideth his wisdom.	31 Os presentes e as dádivas cegam os olhos dos juízes. São em sua boca como um freio que os torna mudos e os impede de castigar.
32 Necessary patience in seeking ing the Lord is better than he that leadeth his life without a guide.	32 Sabedoria escondida é tesouro invisível. Para que serve uma e outro?
	33 Mais vale aquele que dissimula sua insipiência, do que aquele que esconde sua sabedoria.
