Épître aux Éphésiens 4

JERUSALEM	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Je vous exhorte donc, moi le prisonnier dans le Seigneur, à mener une vie digne de l'appel quevous avez reçu:	1 I therefore, a prisoner in the Lord, beseech you that you walk worthy of the vocation in which you are called,
2 en toute humilité, douceur et patience, supportez-vous les uns les autres avec charité;	2 With all humility and mildness, with patience, supporting one another in charity.
3 appliquez-vous à conserver l'unité de l'Esprit par ce lien qu'est la paix.	3 Careful to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4 Il n'y a qu'un Corps et qu'un Esprit, comme il n'y a qu'une espérance au terme de l'appel que vousavez reçu;	4 One body and one Spirit; as you are called in one hope of your calling.
5 un seul Seigneur, une seule foi, un seul baptême;	5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism.
6 un seul Dieu et Père de tous, qui est au-dessus de tous, par tous et en tous.	6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in us all.
7 Cependant chacun de nous a reçu sa part de la faveur divine selon que le Christ a mesuré sesdons.	7 But to every one of us is given grace, according to the measure of the giving of Christ.
8 C'est pourquoi l'on dit: Montant dans les hauteurs il a emmené des captifs, il a donné des donsaux hommes.	8 Wherefore he saith: Ascending on high, he led captivity captive; he gave gifts to men.
9 "Il est monté", qu'est-ce à dire, sinon qu'il est aussi descendu dans les régions inférieures de laterre?	9 Now that he ascended, what is it, but because he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
10 Et celui qui est descendu, c'est le même qui est aussi monté au-dessus de tous les cieux, afin deremplir toutes choses.	10 He that descended is the same also that ascended above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.
11 C'est lui encore qui "a donné" aux uns d'être apôtres, à d'autres d'être prophètes, ou encoreévangélistes, ou bien pasteurs et docteurs,	11 And he gave some apostles, and some prophets, and other some evangelists, and other some pastors and doctors,
12 organisant ainsi les saints pour l'oeuvre du ministère, en vue de la construction du Corps duChrist,	12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 au terme de laquelle nous devons parvenir, tous ensemble, à ne faire plus qu'un dans la foi et laconnaissance du Fils de Dieu, et à constituer cet Homme parfait, dans la force de l'âge, qui réalise la plénitude duChrist.	13 Until we all meet into the unity of faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the age of the fulness of Christ;
14 Ainsi nous ne serons plus des enfants, nous ne nous laisserons plus ballotter et emporter à toutvent de la doctrine, au gré de l'imposture des hommes et de leur astuce à fourvoyer dans l'erreur.	14 That henceforth we be no more children tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine by the wickedness of men, by cunning craftiness, by which they lie in wait to deceive
15 Mais, vivant selon la vérité et dans la charité, nous grandirons de toutes manières vers Celui quiest la Tête, le Christ,	15 But doing the truth in charity, we may in all things grow up in him who is the head, even Christ:
16 dont le Corps tout entier reçoit concorde et cohésion par toutes sortes de jointures qui lenourrissent et l'actionnent selon le rôle de chaque partie, opérant ainsi sa croissance et se construisant lui-même,dans la charité.	16 From whom the whole body, being compacted and fitly joined together, by what every joint supplieth, according to the operation in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body, unto the edifying of itself in charity.
17 Je vous dis donc et vous adjure dans le Seigneur de ne plus vous conduire comme le font lespaïens, avec leur vain jugement	17 This then I say and testify in the Lord: That henceforward you walk not as also the Gentiles walk in the vanity of their mind,
18 et leurs pensées enténébrées: ils sont devenus étrangers à la vie de Dieu à cause de l'ignorancequ'a entraînée chez eux l'endurcissement du coeur,	18 Having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their hearts.
19 et, leur sens moral une fois émoussé, ils se sont livrés à la débauche au point de perpétrer avecfrénésie toute sorte d'impureté.	19 Who despairing, have given themselves up to lasciviousness, unto the working of all uncleanness, unto the working of all uncleanness, unto covetousness.
20 Mais vous, ce n'est pas ainsi que vous avez appris le Christ,	20 But you have not so learned Christ;
21 si du moins vous l'avez reçu dans une prédication et un enseignement conformes à la vérité quiest en Jésus,	21 If so be that you have heard him, and have been taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus:
22 à savoir qu'il vous faut abandonner votre premier genre de vie et dépouiller le vieil homme, quiva se corrompant au fil des convoitises décevantes,	22 To put off, according to former conversation, the old man, who is corrupted according to the desire of error.
23 pour vous renouveler par une transformation spirituelle de votre jugement	23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind:
24 et revêtir l'Homme nouveau, qui a été créé selon Dieu, dans la justice et la sainteté de la vérité.	24 And put on the new man, who according to God is created in justice and holiness of truth.
25 Dès lors, plus de mensonge: que chacun dise la vérité à son prochain; ne sommes-nous pasmembres les uns des autres?	25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak ;ye the truth every man with his neighbour; for we are members one of another.
26 Emportez-vous, mais ne commettez pas le péché: que le soleil ne se couche pas sur votre colère;	26 Be angry, and sin not. Let not the sun go down upon your anger.
27 il ne faut pas donner prise au diable.	27 Give not place to the devil.
28 Que celui qui volait ne vole plus; qu'il prenne plutôt la peine de travailler de ses mains, au pointde pouvoir faire le bien en secourant les nécessiteux.	28 He that stole, let him now steal no more; but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have something to give to him that suffereth need.
29 De votre bouche ne doit sortir aucun mauvais propos, mais plutôt toute bonne parole capabled'édifier, quand il le faut, et de faire du bien à ceux qui l'entendent.	29 Let no evil speech proceed from your mouth; but that which is good, to the edification of faith, that it may administer grace to the hearers.
30 Ne contristez pas l'Esprit Saint de Dieu, qui vous a marqués de son sceau pour le jour de larédemption.	30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God: whereby you are sealed unto the day of redemption.
31 Aigreur, emportement, colère, clameurs, outrages, tout cela doit être extirpé de chez vous, avecla malice sous toutes ses formes.	31 Let all bitterness, and anger, and indignation, and clamour, and blasphemy, be put away from you, with all malice.
32 Montrez-vous au contraire bons et compatissants les uns pour les autres, vous pardonnantmutuellement, comme Dieu vous a pardonné dans le Christ.	32 And be ye kind one to another; merciful, forgiving one another, even as God hath forgiven you in Christ.
