1 Have they made thee ruler? be not lifted up: be among them as one of them.	1 cf2Si l'on (les convives) t'a (ont) établi président (chef), n'en sois pas orgueilleux ; sois parmi eux comme l'un d'entre eux.
2 Have care of them, and so sit down, and when thou hast acquitted thyself of all thy charge, take thy place :	2 Prends soin d'eux, et ne t'assieds qu'ensuite ; prends seulement ta place après t'être acquitté de tous tes devoirs
3 That thou mayst rejoice for them, and receive a crown as an ornament of grace, and get the honour of the contribution.	3 afin de te réjouir à leur sujet, et de recevoir la couronne comme un ornement gracieux, et de prouver que tu étais digne d'être élu (que tu obtiennes la considération de la réunion des conviés).
4 Speak, thou that art elder: for it becometh thee,	4 Parle, toi qui es le plus âgé, car c'est à toi qu'il appartient
5 To speak the first word with care knowledge, and hinder not music.	5 de parler le premier ; mais fais-le avec sagesse et avec science, et n'empêche pas la musique.
6 Where there is no hearing, pour out words, and be not lifted up out season with thy wisdom.	6 Si on n'écoute pas, évite de te répandre en paroles, et ne t'élève pas à contretemps (d'une manière importante) dans ta sagesse.
7 ,7A concert of music in a banquet wine is as a carbuncle set in gold.	7 Un concert de musiciens dans un festin où l'on boit du vin est comme un joyau d'escarboucle enchâssé dans l'or.
8 As a signet of an emerald in a work of gold: so is the melody of music with pleasant and moderate wine.	8 Une symphonie de musiciens pendant qu'on boit du vin avec joie et modération est comme un cachet d'émeraude monté sur or.
9 Hear in silence, and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.	9 Ecoute en silence, et ta retenue t'acquerra la faveur.
10 Young man, scarcely speak in thy own cause.	10 Jeune homme, ne parle qu'à peine, même en ce qui te concerne.
11 If thou be asked twice, let thy answer be short.	11 Quand tu auras été interrogé deux fois, réponds en peu de mots (que ta réponse contienne le principal).
12 In many things be as if thou wert ignorant, and hear in silence and withal seeking.	12 En beaucoup de choses fais comme si tu ignorais, et écoute en silence et en faisant des demandes (aussi en interrogeant).
13 In the company of great men bake not upon thee: and when the ancients are present, speak not much.	13 Au milieu des grands ne prends pas trop de liberté, et ne parle pas beaucoup là où il y a des vieillards.
14 Before a storm goeth lightning: and before shamefacedness goeth favour: and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.	14 Avant la grêle apparaît l'éclair, et en avant de la modestie marche la grâce, et c'est par la réserve que tu acquerras la faveur (bonne grâce).
15 And at the time of rising be not slack: but be first to run home to thy house, and there withdraw thyself, and there take thy pastime.	15 Quand l'heure de se lever sera venue, ne t'attarde (embarrasse) pas ; cours le premier dans ta maison, et là divertis-toi et réjouis-toi,
16 And do what thou hast a mind, but not in sin or proud speech.	16 et agis selon ton bon plaisir, pourvu que ce soit sans péché et sans parole orgueilleuse ;
17 And for all these things bless the Lord, that made thee, and that replenisheth thee with all his good things.	17 et dans toutes ces choses bénis le Seigneur, qui t'a créé et qui te comble de tous ses biens.
18 He that feareth the Lord, will receive his discipline: and they that will seek him early, shall find a blessing.	18 Celui qui craint le Seigneur recevra son instruction (sa doctrine), et ceux qui veillent pour le trouver recevront sa bénédiction.
19 He that seeketh the law, shall be filled with it: and he that dealeth deceitfully, shall meet with a stumblingblock therein.	19 Celui qui cherche la loi (de Dieu) en sera rempli, et celui qui agit avec hypocrisie y trouvera un sujet de chute.
20 They that fear the Lord, shall find just judgment, and shall kindle justice as a light.	20 Ceux qui craignent le Seigneur reconnaîtront ce qui est juste (trouveront un jugement juste, note), et ils feront luire leur justice comme une lumière.
21 A sinful man will flee reproof, and will find an excuse according to his will.	21 Le pécheur évitera la correction, et il trouvera des interprétations de la loi selon son désir (un sujet de comparaison, note).
22 A man of counsel will not neglect understanding, a strange and proud man will not dread fear:	22 L'homme considéré (de conseil) ne négligera pas de s'éclairer ; l'étranger et le superbe n'a (auront) aucune crainte ;
23 Even after he hath done with fear without counsel, he shall be controlled by the things of his own seeking.	23 mais (même) lorsqu'il aura agi seul et sans conseil, ses entreprises (propres projets) le condamneront.
24 My son, do thou nothing without counsel, and thou shalt not repent when thou hast done.	24 Mon fils, ne fais rien sans conseil, et tu ne te repentiras pas de tes actions.
25 Go not in the way of ruin, and thou shalt not stumble against the stones; trust not thyself to a rugged may, lest thou set a stumblingblock to thy soul.	25 Ne va pas sur le chemin de la ruine, et tu ne te heurteras pas contre les pierres ; ne t'engage pas dans un chemin pénible, de peur que tu ne prépares à ton âme un sujet de chute.
26 And beware of thy own children, and take heed of them of thy household.	26 Prends garde à tes enfants, et fais attention aux personnes de ta maison.
27 In every work of thine regard thy soul in faith: for this is the keeping of the commandments.	27 Dans toutes tes œuvres aie une juste confiance en toi-même ; car c'est ainsi qu'on garde les commandements.
28 He that believeth God, taketh heed to the commandments: and he that trusteth in him, shall fare never the worse.	28 Celui qui a confiance en Dieu est attentif à ses ordres (commandements), et celui qui se fie à lui ne sera pas amoindri (affaibli).
