Sirach 32

DOUAI-RHEIMS	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Have they made thee ruler? be not lifted up: be among them as one of them.	1 Non inorgoglirti se t'hanno posto a capo, sta' con i convitati come uno di loro, provvedi prima a loro e poi siedi.
2 Have care of them, and so sit down, and when thou hast acquitted thyself of all thy charge, take thy place :	2 Siediti, dopo aver espletato il tuo compito, per rallegrarti della loro allegrezza e ricevere la corona per le tue buone maniere.
3 That thou mayst rejoice for them, and receive a crown as an ornament of grace, and get the honour of the contribution.	3 Parla, o anziano, perché ti s'addice, ma con saggezza e senza intralciare la musica.
4 Speak, thou that art elder: for it becometh thee,	4 Se c'è uno spettacolo, non versare parole, non sfoggiare sapienza fuori tempo.
5 To speak the first word with care knowledge, and hinder not music.	5 Rubino incastonato nel monile d'oro un concerto di mùsici mentre si beve il vino.
6 Where there is no hearing, pour out words, and be not lifted up out season with thy wisdom.	6 Smeraldo incastonato nell'oggetto d'oro la melodia dei mùsici con il dolce vino.
7 ,7A concert of music in a banquet wine is as a carbuncle set in gold.	7 Parla, o giovane, se c'è bisogno, non più di due volte, solo se interrogato.
8 As a signet of an emerald in a work of gold: so is the melody of music with pleasant and moderate wine.	8 Sintetizza il discorso, di' molto in poco, sii come chi sa, eppure tace.
9 Hear in silence, and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.	9 Tra i grandi non darti importanza e tra gli anziani non ciarlare molto.
10 Young man, scarcely speak in thy own cause.	10 Prima del tuono s'affretta il lampo, così il favore precede l'uomo modesto.
11 If thou be asked twice, let thy answer be short.	11 A'lzati in tempo e non attardarti, corri a casa senza perdere tempo.
12 In many things be as if thou wert ignorant, and hear in silence and withal seeking.	12 Divèrtiti e appaga i tuoi desideri, ma non peccare con parole superbe.
13 In the company of great men bake not upon thee: and when the ancients are present, speak not much.	13 Per tutto questo benedici il tuo Creatore che ti inebria con i suoi beni.
14 Before a storm goeth lightning: and before shamefacedness goeth favour: and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.	14 Chi teme il Signore accoglie l'istruzione, quelli che vegliano trovano il suo favore.
15 And at the time of rising be not slack: but be first to run home to thy house, and there withdraw thyself, and there take thy pastime.	15 Chi scruta la legge ne sarà ripieno, ma l'ipocrita vi troverà scandalo.
16 And do what thou hast a mind, but not in sin or proud speech.	16 Quanti temono il Signore sanno giudicare, brillano come luce i loro giudizi.
17 And for all these things bless the Lord, that made thee, and that replenisheth thee with all his good things.	17 Il peccatore rifiuterà il rimprovero e prenderà la decisione che gli piace.
18 He that feareth the Lord, will receive his discipline: and they that will seek him early, shall find a blessing.	18 L'uomo di senno non disprezza la riflessione, ma l'empio superbo non prova timore.
19 He that seeketh the law, shall be filled with it: and he that dealeth deceitfully, shall meet with a stumblingblock therein.	19 Non far nulla senza consiglio e non cambiare idea mentre stai operando.
20 They that fear the Lord, shall find just judgment, and shall kindle justice as a light.	20 Non andare su strada scivolosa, così non batterai sulle pietre.
21 A sinful man will flee reproof, and will find an excuse according to his will.	21 Non avventurarti su strada inesplorata
22 A man of counsel will not neglect understanding, a strange and proud man will not dread fear:	22 e guàrdati dai tuoi stessi figli.
23 Even after he hath done with fear without counsel, he shall be controlled by the things of his own seeking.	23 In tutto quello che fai fidati di te stesso, poiché anche questo è secondo i comandamenti.
24 My son, do thou nothing without counsel, and thou shalt not repent when thou hast done.	24 Chi crede nella legge bada ai comandamenti, chi confida nel Signore non sarà umiliato.
25 Go not in the way of ruin, and thou shalt not stumble against the stones; trust not thyself to a rugged may, lest thou set a stumblingblock to thy soul.
26 And beware of thy own children, and take heed of them of thy household.
27 In every work of thine regard thy soul in faith: for this is the keeping of the commandments.
28 He that believeth God, taketh heed to the commandments: and he that trusteth in him, shall fare never the worse.
