Sirach 32

1 Have they made thee ruler? be not lifted up: be among them as one of them.	1 Se' tu fatto capo? non insuperbirti: sii tra di loro, come uno di loro.
2 Have care of them, and so sit down, and when thou hast acquitted thyself of all thy charge, take thy place :	2 Abbi cura di essi, e dopo che avrai pienamente soddisfatto all'ufficio tuo, va a metterti a tavola;
3 That thou mayst rejoice for them, and receive a crown as an ornament of grace, and get the honour of the contribution.	3 Affinchè eglino siano a te di allegrezza, e per decoroso ornamento tu riceva la corona, e ne ottenga l'onore delle porzioni messe a parte per te.
4 Speak, thou that art elder: for it becometh thee,	4 Tu maggiore di età, cui si conviene di essere il primo a parlare, parla
5 To speak the first word with care knowledge, and hinder not music.	5 Con iscelta dottrina, e non disturbare l'armonia.
6 Where there is no hearing, pour out words, and be not lifted up out season with thy wisdom.	6 Dove non è chi ascolti, non buttar via le parole, e non volere a mal tempo far pompa di tua saggezza.
7 ,7A concert of music in a banquet wine is as a carbuncle set in gold.	7 Un concerto di musica in un convito, dove si beve, è come un prezioso carbonchio legato in oro.
8 As a signet of an emerald in a work of gold: so is the melody of music with pleasant and moderate wine.	8 L'armonia de' cantori col giocondo, e moderato bere, è come uno smeraldo incastrato in anello di oro.
9 Hear in silence, and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.	9 Ascolta in silenzio, e colla tua ritenutezza ti concilierai amore.
10 Young man, scarcely speak in thy own cause.	10 Giovinetto parla al bisogno a mala pena.
11 If thou be asked twice, let thy answer be short.	11 Interrogato due volte, ristrìngi in poco la tua risposta.
12 In many things be as if thou wert ignorant, and hear in silence and withal seeking.	12 In molte cose diportati come ignorante, e ascolta tacendo, e domandando.
13 In the company of great men bake not upon thee: and when the ancients are present, speak not much.	13 In mezzo ai grandi non ti azzardare, e dove sono vecchj, non parlar molto.
14 Before a storm goeth lightning: and before shamefacedness goeth favour: and for thy reverence good grace shall come to thee.	14 La grandine è preceduta dal lampo, e la verecondia è preceduta dalla buona grazia, e la tua ritenutezza farà, che tu sii ben veduto.
15 And at the time of rising be not slack: but be first to run home to thy house, and there withdraw thyself, and there take thy pastime.	15 E quando è tempo di alzarti, non istare a bada: vattene il primo a tua casa, ed ivi divertiti, e scherza,
16 And do what thou hast a mind, but not in sin or proud speech.	16 E fa quel, che ti piace, ma senza peccare, o parlar con superbia.
17 And for all these things bless the Lord, that made thee, and that replenisheth thee with all his good things.	17 E dopo tutto questo benedici il Signore, che ti ha fatto, e ti inebria con tutti i suoi beni.
18 He that feareth the Lord, will receive his discipline: and they that will seek him early, shall find a blessing.	18 Chi teme il Signore, abbraccerà gli insegnamenti di lui; e quelli, che di buon mattino lo cercano, troveranno benedizione.
19 He that seeketh the law, shall be filled with it: and he that dealeth deceitfully, shall meet with a stumblingblock therein.	19 Chi ama la legge, da lei sarà fatto ricco: ma chi opera con finzione, prenderà da lei occasione di inciampo.
20 They that fear the Lord, shall find just judgment, and shall kindle justice as a light.	20 Quelli, che temono il Signore, sapran far giudizio di quello, che è giusto, e la loro giustizia sarà quasi accesa face.
21 A sinful man will flee reproof, and will find an excuse according to his will.	21 L'uom peccatore fugge la riprensione, e trova de' paragoni secondo la sua volontà.
22 A man of counsel will not neglect understanding, a strange and proud man will not dread fear:	22 L'uomo, che ha prudenza, non trascura di ben riflettere: l'uomo, che non ne ha, e il superbo non teme mai nulla;
23 Even after he hath done with fear without counsel, he shall be controlled by the things of his own seeking.	23 Anche dopo aver operato da se, senza consiglio; ma le sue stesse intra prese il condanneranno.
24 My son, do thou nothing without counsel, and thou shalt not repent when thou hast done.	24 Figliuolo, non far cosa veruna senza consiglio, e non avrai da pentirti dopo il fatto.
25 Go not in the way of ruin, and thou shalt not stumble against the stones; trust not thyself to a rugged may, lest thou set a stumblingblock to thy soul.	25 Non camminare per istrade rovinose, e non inciamperai nei sassi, e non ti impegnare in una strada faticosa per non esporre alle cadale l'anima tua:
26 And beware of thy own children, and take heed of them of thy household.	26 Guardati anche da' propri figliuoli, e pon mente alla gente di tua casa.
27 In every work of thine regard thy soul in faith: for this is the keeping of the commandments.	27 In ogni opra tua segni la fede dell'anima tua, perché in questo sta l'osservanza de' comandamenti.
28 He that believeth God, taketh heed to the commandments: and he that trusteth in him, shall fare never the worse.	28 Chi è fedele a Dio, è intento a' suoi comandamenti; e chi confida in lui, non iscapiterà.
