A psalm of a canticle, for the sons of Core, on the second day of the week. | 1 [Song Psalm Of the sons of Korah] Great is Yahweh and most worthy of praise in the city of our God,the holy mountain, |
Great is the Lord, and exceedingly to be praised in the city of our God, in his holy mountain. | 2 towering in beauty, the joy of the whole world: Mount Zion in the heart of the north, the settlement ofthe great king; |
With the joy of the whole earth is mount Sion founded, on the sides of the north, the city of the great king. | 3 God himself among its palaces has proved himself its bulwark. |
In her houses shall God be known, when he shall protect her. | 4 For look, kings made al iance, together they advanced; |
For behold the kings of the earth assembled themselves: they gathered together. | 5 without a second glance, when they saw, they panicked and fled away. |
So they saw, and they wondered, they were troubled, they were moved: | 6 Trembling seized them on the spot, pains like those of a woman in labour; |
trembling took hold of them. There were pains as of a woman in labour. | 7 it was the east wind, that wrecker of ships from Tarshish. |
With a vehement wind thou shalt break in pieces the ships of Tharsis. | 8 What we had heard we saw for ourselves in the city of our God, in the city of Yahweh Sabaoth, whichGod has established for ever.Pause |
As we have heard, so have we seen, in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God hath founded it for ever. | 9 We reflect on your faithful love, God, in your temple! |
We have received thy mercy, O God, in the midst of thy temple. | 10 Both your name and your praise, God, are over the whole wide world. Your right hand is ful of savingjustice, |
According to thy name, O God, so also is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of justice. | 11 Mount Zion rejoices, the daughters of Judah delight because of your saving justice. |
Let mount Sion rejoice, and the daughters of Juda be glad; because of thy judgments, O Lord. | 12 Go round Zion, walk right through her, count her bastions, |
Surround Sion, and encompass her: tell ye in her towers. | 13 admire her walls, examine her palaces, to tel future generations |
Set your hearts on her strength; and distribute her houses, that ye may relate it in another generation. | 14 that such is God; our God for ever and ever, he is our guide! |
For this is God, our God unto eternity, and for ever and ever: he shall rule us for evermore. |
