DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Alleluia. Give glory to the Lord, and call upon his name: declare his deeds among the Gentiles.1 Give thanks to the LORD, invoke his name; make known among the peoples his deeds!
Sing to him, yea sing praises to him: relate all his wondrous works.2 Sing praise, play music; proclaim all his wondrous deeds!
Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord.3 Glory in his holy name; rejoice, O hearts that seek the LORD!
Seek ye the Lord, and be strengthened: seek his face evermore.4 Rely on the mighty LORD; constantly seek his face.
Remember his marvellous works which he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth.5 Recall the wondrous deeds he has done, his signs and his words of judgment,
O ye seed of Abraham his servant; ye sons of Jacob his chosen.6 You descendants of Abraham his servant, offspring of Jacob the chosen one!
He is the Lord our God: his judgments are in all the earth.7 The LORD is our God who rules the whole earth.
He hath remembered his covenant for ever: the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.8 He remembers forever his covenant, the pact imposed for a thousand generations,
Which he made to Abraham; and his oath to Isaac:9 Which was made with Abraham, confirmed by oath to Isaac,
And he appointed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting testament:10 And ratified as binding for Jacob, an everlasting covenant for Israel:
Saying: To thee will I give the land of Chanaan, the lot of your inheritance.11 "To you I give the land of Canaan, your own allotted heritage."
When they were but a small number: yea very few, and sojourners therein:12 When they were few in number, a handful, and strangers there,
And they passed from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people.13 Wandering from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another,
He suffered no man to hurt them: and he reproved kings for their sakes.14 He let no one oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings:
Touch ye not my anointed: and do no evil to my prophets.15 " Do not touch my anointed, to my prophets do no harm."
And he called a famine upon the land: and he broke in pieces all the support of bread.16 Then he called down a famine on the land, destroyed the grain that sustained them.
He sent a man before them: Joseph, who was sold for a slave.17 He had sent a man ahead of them, Joseph, sold as a slave.
They humbled his feet in fetters: the iron pierced his soul,18 They shackled his feet with chains; collared his neck in iron,
until his word came. The word of the Lord inflamed him.19 Till his prediction came to pass, and the word of the LORD proved him true.
The king sent, and he released him: the ruler of the people, and he set him at liberty.20 The king sent and released him; the ruler of peoples set him free.
He made him master of his house, and ruler of all his possession.21 He made him lord over his palace, ruler over all his possessions,
That he might instruct his princes as himself, and teach his ancients wisdom.22 To instruct his princes by his word, to teach his elders wisdom.
And Israel went into Egypt: and Jacob was a sojourner in the land of Cham.23 Then Israel entered Egypt; Jacob lived in the land of Ham.
And he increased his people exceedingly: and strengthened them over their enemies,24 God greatly increased his people, made them too many for their foes.
He turned their heart to hate his people: and to deal deceitfully with his servants.25 He turned their hearts to hate his people, to treat his servants unfairly.
He sent Moses his servant: Aaron the man whom he had chosen.26 He sent his servant Moses, Aaron whom he had chosen.
He gave them power to shew his signs, and his wonders in the land of Cham.27 They worked his signs in Egypt and wonders in the land of Ham.
He sent darkness, and made it obscure: and grieved not his words.28 He sent darkness and it grew dark, but they rebelled against his word.
He turned their waters into blood, and destroyed their fish.29 He turned their waters into blood and killed all their fish.
Their land brought forth frogs, in the inner chambers of their kings.30 Their land swarmed with frogs, even the chambers of their kings.
He spoke, and there came divers sorts of flies and sciniphs in all their coasts.31 He spoke and there came swarms of flies, gnats through all their country.
He gave them hail for rain, a burning fire in the land.32 For rain he gave them hail, flashes of lightning throughout their land.
And he destroyed their vineyards and their fig trees: and he broke in pieces the trees of their coasts.33 He struck down their vines and fig trees, shattered the trees of their country.
He spoke, and the locust came, and the bruchus, of which there was no number.34 He spoke and the locusts came, grass hoppers without number.
And they devoured all the grass in their land, and consumed all the fruit of their ground.35 They devoured every plant in the land; they ravaged the crops of their fields.
And he slew all the firstborn in their land: the firstfruits of all their labour.36 He struck down every firstborn in the land, the first fruits of all their vigor.
And he brought them out with silver and gold: and there was not among their tribes one that was feeble.37 He brought his people out, laden with silver and gold; no stragglers among the tribes.
Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them lay upon them.38 Egypt rejoiced when they left, for panic had seized them.
He spread a cloud for their protection, and fire to give them light in the night.39 He spread a cloud as a cover, and made a fire to light up the night.
They asked, and the quail came: and he filled them with the bread of heaven.40 They asked and he brought them quail; with bread from heaven he filled them.
He opened the rock, and waters flowed: rivers ran down in the dry land.41 He split the rock and water gushed forth; it flowed through the desert like a river.
Because he remembered his holy word, which he had spoken to his servant Abraham.42 For he remembered his sacred word to Abraham his servant.
And he brought forth his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness.43 He brought his people out with joy, his chosen ones with shouts of triumph.
And he gave them the lands of the Gentiles: and they possessed the labours of the people:44 He gave them the lands of the nations, the wealth of the peoples to own,
That they might observe his justifications, and seek after his law.45 That they might keep his laws and observe his teachings. Hallelujah!
