1 La sabiduría del humilde le hace erguir la frente, y lo hace sentar en medio de los poderosos.	1 The poor man's wisdom lifts his head high and sets him among princes.
2 No alabes a un hombre por su buena presencia ni desprecies a nadie por su aspecto.	2 Praise not a man for his looks; despise not a man for his appearance.
3 La abeja es pequeña entre los animales que vuelan, pero lo que produce es más dulce que todo.	3 Least is the bee among winged things, but she reaps the choicest of all harvests.
4 No te gloríes de la ropa que te cubre ni te enorgullezcas en los días de gloria, porque las obras del Señor son admirables y están ocultas a los ojos de los hombres.	4 Mock not the worn cloak and jibe at no man's bitter day: For strange are the works of the LORD, hidden from men his deeds.
5 Muchos tiranos se sentaron en el suelo y el que menos lo pensaba se ciñó la diadema.	5 The oppressed often rise to a throne, and some that none would consider wear a crown.
6 Muchos potentados se hundieron en el deshonor y hombres ilustres cayeron en manos de otros.	6 The exalted often fall into utter disgrace; the honored are given into enemy hands.
7 No censures antes de averiguar: reflexiona primero, y luego reprocha.	7 Before investigating, find no fault; examine first, then criticize.
8 No respondas antes de escuchar y no interrumpas cuando otro habla.	8 Before hearing, answer not, and interrupt no one in the middle of his speech.
9 No discutas sobre lo que no te corresponde ni te entrometas en las disputas de los pecadores.	9 Dispute not about what is not your concern; in the strife of the arrogant take no part.
10 Hijo mío, no pretendas hacer demasiadas cosas: si lo haces, no quedarás libre de culpa. Si pretendes demasiado, no lo alcanzarás y aunque quieras huir, no escaparás.	10 My son, why increase your cares, since he who is avid for wealth will not be blameless? Even if you run after it, you will never overtake it; however you seek it, you will not find it.
11 Hay quien se esfuerza, se fatiga y se apura, y tanto más desprovisto se ve.	11 One may toil and struggle and drive, and fall short all the more.
12 Otro es débil, necesitado de ayuda, falto de fuerza y lleno de privaciones; pero el Señor lo mira con bondad y lo levanta de su humillación;	12 Another goes his way a weakling and a failure, with little strength and great misery-- Yet the eyes of the LORD look favorably upon him; he raises him free of the vile dust,
13 el Señor le hace erguir la frente y muchos quedan maravillados a causa de él.	13 Lifts up his head and exalts him to the amazement of the many.
14 Bienes y males, vida y muerte, pobreza y riqueza vienen del Señor.	14 Good and evil, life and death, poverty and riches, are from the LORD.
15 [La sabiduría, la ciencia y el conocimiento de la Ley vienen del Señor; el amor y el camino de las buenas obras proceden de él.]	15 Wisdom and understanding and knowledge of affairs, love and virtuous paths are from the LORD.
16 [La necedad y la oscuridad han sido creadas para los pecadores; los que se complacen en el mal envejecen en él.]	16 Error and darkness were formed with sinners from their birth, and evil grows old with evildoers.
17 el don del Señor permanece con los buenos y su benevolencia les asegura el éxito para siempre.	17 The LORD'S gift remains with the just; his favor brings continued success.
18 Un hombre se enriquece a fuerza de empeño y ahorro, ¿y qué recompensa le toca?	18 A man may become rich through a miser's life, and this is his allotted reward:
19 Cuando dice: Ya puedo descansar, ahora voy a disfrutar de mis bienes», él no sabe cuánto tiempo pasará hasta que muera y deje sus bienes a otros.	19 When he says: "I have found rest, now I will feast on my possessions," He does not know how long it will be till he dies and leaves them to others.
20 Sé fiel a tu obligación, entrégate a ella, y envejece en tu oficio.	20 My son, hold fast to your duty, busy yourself with it, grow old while doing your task.
21 No admires las obras del pecador: confía en el Señor y persevera en tu trabajo, porque es cosa fácil a los ojos del Señor enriquecer de un solo golpe al indigente.	21 Admire not how sinners live, but trust in the LORD and wait for his light; For it is easy with the LORD suddenly, in an instant, to make a poor man rich.
22 La bendición del Señor es la recompensa de los buenos, y en un instante él hace florecer su bendición.	22 God's blessing is the lot of the just man, and in due time his hopes bear fruit.
23 No digas: «¿Qué me hace falta? ¿Qué bienes puedo esperar todavía?».	23 Say not: "What do I need? What further pleasure can be mine?"
24 No digas: «Ya tengo bastante; ¿qué males pueden sobrevenirme aún?».	24 Say not: "I am independent. What harm can come to me now?"
25 En los días buenos se olvidan los malos, y en los malos, se olvidan los buenos.	25 The day of prosperity makes one forget adversity; the day of adversity makes one forget prosperity.
26 Porque es fácil para el Señor, en el día de la muerte, retribuir a cada hombre según su conducta.	26 For it is easy with the LORD on the day of death to repay man according to his deeds.
27 Una hora de infortunio hace olvidar la dicha, y las obras de un hombre se revelan al fin de su vida.	27 A moment's affliction brings forgetfulness of past delights; when a man dies, his life is revealed.
28 No proclames feliz a nadie antes que llegue su fin, porque sólo al final se conoce bien a un hombre.	28 Call no man happy before his death, for by how he ends, a man is known.
29 No hagas entrar a cualquiera en tu casa, porque el falso tiende muchas emboscadas.	29 Bring not every man into your house, for many are the snares of the crafty one;
30 El corazón del soberbio es como una carnada, igual que un espía, espera que des un mal paso.	30 Though he seem like a bird confined in a cage, yet like a spy he will pick out the weak spots.
31 Está al acecho para deformar el bien en mal y es capaz de manchar las cosas más limpias.	31 The talebearer turns good into evil; with a spark he sets many coals afire.
32 Una chispa enciende muchos carbones y el pecador tiende emboscadas sangrientas.	32 The evil man lies in wait for blood, and plots against your choicest possessions.
33 Cuídate del malhechor, porque él engendra maldades, no sea que te deje manchado para siempre.	33 Avoid a wicked man, for he breeds only evil, lest you incur a lasting stain.
34 Alberga a un extraño, y te traerá complicaciones, y hará de ti un extraño para tus propios parientes.	34 Lodge a stranger with you, and he will subvert your course, and make a stranger of you to your own household.
