Joshua 22

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA
1 Joshua then summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh	1 Allora Giosuè convocò i Rubeniti, i Gaditi e metà della tribù di Manàsse
2 and said to them, 'You have observed everything that Moses, servant of Yahweh, ordered you, andwhenever I have given you an order you have listened to me.	2 e disse loro: "Voi avete osservato quanto Mosè, servo del Signore, vi aveva ordinato e avete obbedito alla mia voce, in tutto quello che io vi ho comandato.
3 You have not deserted your brothers, from long ago until today, keeping the observance of thecommandment of Yahweh your God.	3 Non avete abbandonato i vostri fratelli durante questo lungo tempo fino ad oggi e avete osservato il comando del Signore vostro Dio.
4 Now that Yahweh your God has granted your brothers the rest that he promised them, go back to yourtents, to the country belonging to you which Moses, servant of Yahweh, gave you on the other side of theJordan.	4 Ora che il Signore vostro Dio ha dato tranquillità ai vostri fratelli, come aveva loro promesso, tornate e andate alle vostre tende, nel paese che vi appartiene, e che Mosè, servo del Signore, vi ha assegnato oltre il Giordano.
5 But take great care to practise the commandments and the Law which Moses, servant of Yahweh, hasgiven you: to love Yahweh your God, always to follow his paths, to keep his commandments, to be loyal to himand to serve him with al your heart and with al your soul.'	5 Soltanto abbiate gran cura di eseguire i comandi e la legge che Mosè, servo del Signore, vi ha dato, amando il Signore vostro Dio, camminando in tutte le sue vie, osservando i suoi comandi, restando fedeli a lui e servendolo con tutto il cuore e con tutta l'anima".
6 Joshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went home to their tents.	6 Poi Giosuè li benedisse e li congedò ed essi tornarono alle loro tende.
7 To one half of the tribe of Manasseh, Moses had given a territory in Bashan; to the other half, Joshuagave another among their brothers on the west bank of the Jordan. As Joshua sent them home to their tents, heblessed them	7 Mosè aveva dato a metà della tribù di Manàsse un possesso in Basan e Giosuè diede all'altra metà un possesso tra i loro fratelli, di qua del Giordano, a occidente. Quando Giosuè li rimandò alle loro tende e li benedisse,
8 and said to them, 'You are going back to your tents with great wealth, with a great deal of livestock,with silver and gold, bronze and iron and great quantities of clothing; share the spoils of your enemies with yourbrothers.'	8 aggiunse: "Voi tornate alle vostre tende con grandi ricchezze, con bestiame molto numeroso, con argento, oro, rame, ferro e con grande quantità di vesti; dividete con i vostri fratelli il bottino, tolto ai vostri nemici".
9 The Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned home, leaving the Israelites atShiloh in Canaan, and made for Gilead, the territory which belonged to them as a result of Yahweh's order giventhrough Moses.	9 I figli di Ruben, i figli di Gad e metà della tribù di Manàsse dunque tornarono, dopo aver lasciato gli Israeliti a Silo, nel paese di Canaan, per andare nel paese di Gàlaad, il paese di loro proprietà, che avevano ricevuto in possesso, in forza del comando del Signore, per mezzo di Mosè.
10 When they came to the stone circle by the Jordan, in Canaanite territory, the Reubenites, the Gaditesand the half-tribe of Manasseh built an altar there beside the Jordan, a large, imposing altar.	10 Quando furono giunti alle Curve del Giordano, che sono nel paese di Canaan, i figli di Ruben, i figli di Gad e metà della tribù di Manàsse vi costruirono un altare, presso il Giordano: un altare di forma grandiosa.
11 This came to the ears of the Israelites. 'Look,' the word went round, 'the Reubenites, the Gadites andthe half-tribe of Manasseh have built this altar on the Canaanite side, near the stone circle by the Jordan, on theIsraelites' bank.'	11 Gli Israeliti udirono che si diceva: "Ecco i figli di Ruben, i figli di Gad e metà della tribù di Manàsse hanno costruito un altare di fronte al paese di Canaan, alle Curve del Giordano, dalla parte degli Israeliti".
12 At this news, the whole community of the Israelites mustered at Shiloh, to march against them andmake war on them.	12 Quando gli Israeliti seppero questo, tutta la loro comunità si riunì a Silo per muover loro guerra.
13 The Israelites sent the priest Phinehas son of Eleazar to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in Gilead,	13 Gli Israeliti mandarono ai figli di Ruben, ai figli di Gad e metà della tribù di Manàsse nel paese di Gàlaad, Pincas, figlio del sacerdote Eleazaro,
14 and with him ten leading men, one man from a leading family from each of the tribes of Israel, each ofthem being head of his family in the clans of Israel.	14 e con lui dieci capi, un capo per ciascun casato paterno di tutte le tribù d'Israele:
15 Having reached the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, they said this:	15 tutti erano capi di un casato paterno fra i gruppi di migliaia d'Israele; essi andarono dai figli di Ruben, dai figli di Gad e da metà della tribù di Manàsse nel paese di Gàlaad e dissero loro:
16 'The whole community of Israel says as fol ows, "What do you mean by this infidelity, which you havecommitted against the God of Israel by now repudiating your al egiance to Yahweh, and by building yourselvesan altar with the intention now of rebel ing against Yahweh?	16 "Dice tutta la comunità del Signore: Che è questa infedeltà, che avete commessa contro il Dio d'Israele, desistendo oggi dal seguire il Signore, costruendovi un altare per ribellarvi oggi al Signore?
17 "Was the crime which we committed at Peor so slight -- although we have not managed to purifyourselves from that even now, in spite of the plague which has ravaged the community of Yahweh-	17 Non ci basta l'iniquità di Peor, della quale non ci siamo ancora purificati oggi e che attirò quel flagello sulla comunità del Signore?
18 that you must now repudiate your al egiance to Yahweh? For since you are in rebellion against himtoday, tomorrow his anger will be aroused against the whole community of Israel.	18 Voi oggi desistete dal seguire il Signore! Poiché oggi vi siete ribellati al Signore, domani egli si adirerà contro tutta la comunità d'Israele.
19 "Is the country in which you have settled unclean? Then cross over into the country where Yahwehhas settled, there where Yahweh's Dwel ing now stands, and settle among us. But do not rebel against Yahwehor involve us in your rebel ion by building a rival altar to the altar of Yahweh our God.	19 Se ritenete immondo il paese che possedete, ebbene, passate nel paese che è possesso del Signore, dove è stabilita la Dimora del Signore, e stabilitevi in mezzo a noi; ma non ribellatevi al Signore e non fate di noi dei ribelli, costruendovi un altare oltre l'altare del Signore nostro Dio.
20 When Achan son of Zerah was unfaithful to the curse of destruction, did not the retribution comedown on the whole community of Israel, although he was only one man? Did he not have to die for his crime?" '	20 Quando Acan figlio di Zerach commise un'infedeltà riguardo allo sterminio, non venne forse l'ira del Signore su tutta la comunità d'Israele sebbene fosse un individuo solo? Non dovette egli morire per la sua colpa?".
21 The Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh spoke in their turn and answered theheads of the clans of Israel:	21 Allora i figli di Ruben, i figli di Gad e metà della tribù di Manàsse risposero e dissero ai capi dei gruppi di migliaia d'Israele:
22 'The God of gods, Yahweh, the God of gods, Yahweh wel knows, and let Israel know it too: if therehas been rebellion or infidelity to Yahweh on our part, may he refuse to save us today!	22 "Dio, Dio, Signore! Dio, Dio, Signore! Lui lo sa, ma anche Israele lo sappia. Se abbiamo agito per ribellione o per infedeltà verso il Signore, che Egli non ci salvi oggi!
23 And if we have built ourselves an altar with the intention of repudiating our al egiance to Yahweh andof presenting burnt offering and oblation or of offering communion sacrifices on it, may Yahweh himself call us to account for it!	23 Se abbiamo costruito un altare per desistere dal seguire il Signore; se è stato per offrire su di esso olocausti od oblazioni e per fare su di esso sacrifici di comunione, il Signore stesso ce ne chieda conto!
24 The truth is, we have done this as a precaution: in the future, your descendants might say to ours,"What connection do you have with Yahweh, God of Israel?	24 In verità l'abbiamo fatto preoccupati di questo: pensando cioè che in avvenire i vostri figli potessero dire ai nostri figli: Che avete in comune voi con il Signore Dio d'Israele?
25 Has not Yahweh set the frontier of the Jordan between us and you, you Reubenites and Gadites?You have no share in Yahweh." Thus, your descendants would be the cause of stopping ours from fearingYahweh.	25 Il Signore ha posto il Giordano come confine tra noi e voi, figli di Ruben e figli di Gad; voi non avete parte alcuna con il Signore! Così i vostri figli farebbero desistere i nostri figli dal temere il Signore.
26 'So we said to each other, "Let us build this altar, not for burnt offerings or other sacrifices	26 Perciò abbiamo detto: Costruiamo un altare, non per olocausti, né per sacrifici,
27 but as a witness between us and you and between our descendants after us, attesting that we toohave the right to worship Yahweh, in his presence, with our burnt offerings, our victims and our communionsacrifices. And so, in the future your descendants wil not be able to say to ours: You have no share in Yahweh."	27 ma perché sia testimonio fra noi e voi e fra i nostri discendenti dopo di noi, dimostrando che vogliamo servire al Signore dinanzi a lui, con i nostri olocausti, con le nostre vittime e con i nostri sacrifici di comunione. Così i vostri figli non potranno un giorno dire ai nostri figli: Voi non avete parte alcuna con il Signore.
28 And we furthermore said, "If ever it were to happen that they did say this either to us or to ourdescendants in the future, we should reply: Look at this structure, Yahweh's altar, made by our ancestors not forburnt offerings or other sacrifices but as a witness between us and you."	28 Abbiamo detto: Se in avvenire essi diranno questo a noi o ai nostri discendenti, noi risponderemo: Guardate la forma dell'altare del Signore, che i nostri padri fecero, non per olocausti, né per sacrifici, ma perché fosse di testimonio fra noi e voi.
29 Far be it from us to rebel against Yahweh or now to repudiate our allegiance to Yahweh by buildingan altar for burnt offerings or oblations or sacrifices, in rivalry with the altar of Yahweh our God that standsbefore his Dwel ing!'	29 Lungi da noi l'idea di ribellarci al Signore e di desistere dal seguire il Signore, costruendo un altare per olocausti, per oblazioni o per sacrifici, oltre l'altare del Signore nostro Dio, che è davanti alla sua Dimora!".
30 When the priest Phinehas, the leaders of the community and the heads of the clans of Israel whowere with him, heard the words spoken by the Gadites, the Reubenites and the Manassehites, they approved ofthem.	30 Quando Pincas e i capi della comunità, i capi dei gruppi di migliaia d'Israele che erano con lui, udirono le parole dette dai figli di Ruben, dai figli di Gad e dai figli di Manàsse, ne rimasero soddisfatti.
31 The priest Phinehas son of Eleazar then said to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the Manassehites,'Today, we can see that Yahweh is among us, since you have not been unfaithful to Yahweh in this matter; thismeans that you have spared the Israelites from Yahweh's avenging hand.'	31 Pincas, figlio del sacerdote Eleazaro, disse ai figli di Ruben, ai figli di Gad e ai figli di Manàsse: "Oggi riconosciamo che il Signore è in mezzo a noi, poiché non avete commesso questa infedeltà verso il Signore; così avete preservato gli Israeliti dal castigo del Signore".
32 The priest Phinehas son of Eleazar and the leaders left the Reubenites and the Gadites and wentback from Gilead to Canaan and the Israelites, to whom they reported the answer.	32 Pincas, figlio del sacerdote Eleazaro, e i capi lasciarono i figli di Ruben e i figli di Gad e tornarono dal paese di Gàlaad al paese di Canaan presso gli Israeliti, ai quali riferirono l'accaduto.
33 The Israelites were pleased to hear this; the Israelites gave thanks to God and spoke no more ofmarching against them to make war on them and to ravage the country inhabited by the Reubenites and theGadites.	33 La cosa piacque agli Israeliti, i quali benedissero Dio e non parlarono più di muover guerra ai figli di Ruben e di Gad, per devastare il paese che essi abitavano.
34 The Reubenites and the Gadites cal ed the altar . . . , 'Because', they said, 'it wil be a witnessbetween us that Yahweh is God.'	34 I figli di Ruben e i figli di Gad chiamarono quell'altare Testimonio perché dissero: "Esso è testimonio fra di noi che il Signore è Dio".
