| 1 Questo sappi, che ne' ultimi dì saranno tempi pericolosi. | 1 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of stress. |
| 2 E gli uomini ameranno pure loro medesimi; e saranno cupidi, levati di superbia, biastematori, non obbedienti al padre e alla madre, isconoscenti de' beneficii ricevuti, pieni di peccati, | 2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, |
| 3 senza amore e senza pace, imponitori de' peccati sopra altrui; e non si conterranno a castità; non saranno pietosi, anzi saranno senza benignità; | 3 inhuman, implacable, slanderers, profligates, fierce, haters of good, |
| 4 traditori, crudi, enfiati, amatori de' peccati più che di Dio; | 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, |
| 5 e avendo vista d' (essere buoni e) avere pietà e virtù, si la niegano (e rifiutano). E tutti questi tali, schifali (e non abbi usanza con loro). | 5 holding the form of religion but denying the power of it. Avoid such people. |
| 6 E di costoro son alquanti, che vanno cercando le magioni, e ingannano le feminelle, le quali son incaricate di peccati e son menate da molti desiderii. | 6 For among them are those who make their way into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and swayed by various impulses, |
| 7 E questi tali sempre apparano (e imprendono), e di niuno tempo pervengono alla scienza della verità. | 7 who will listen to anybody and can never arrive at a knowledge of the truth. |
| 8 E sì come Ianne e Mambre contesero a Moisè, e così resistono (e contrastano) questi alla verità; e son uomini corrotti della mente, e d' incontro alla fede. | 8 As Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men of corrupt mind and counterfeit faith; |
| 9 Ma egli non (cresceranno e non) andaranno più inanzi; chè la stoltezza loro sarà manifesta a tutti, come etiam fu quella di coloro. | 9 but they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men. |
| 10 Ma tu (hai guadagnato e) sei pervenuto alla mia dottrina e ordinamento; e hai seguitato il mio proponimento e la fede e la lunga perseveranza e l'amore e la pazienza, | 10 Now you have observed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, |
| 11 e le persecuzioni e le passioni, le quali son fatte a me in Antiochia e in Iconio e in Listri, e qualunque altra persecuzione ch' io abbo sostenuto; e da tutte m' ha liberato il Signore. | 11 my persecutions, my sufferings, what befell me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra, what persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. |
| 12 E tutti coloro che vogliono vivere santamente in Cristo, tutti sostengono persecuzione. | 12 Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, |
| 13 Li malvagi uomini e li ingannatori crescono in peggio, errando e mettendo altrui in errore. | 13 while evil men and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived. |
| 14 Ma tu dimora in quelle cose che tu imprendesti, e in quelle cose che son date a te, sapiendo da cui tu le imprendesti, | 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it |
| 15 e che insino dalla gioventù conoscesti le scritture sacre, le quali ti possono ammaestrare a salute, per la fede la qual è in Iesù Cristo. | 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. |
| 16 Chè ogni scrittura, da Dio spirata, sì è utile ad ammaestrare e a riprendere e a castigare e a fare imprendere la giustizia; | 16 All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, |
| 17 chè l' uomo di Dio sia perfetto ad ogni bona opera, e ammaestrato. | 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. |
