| 1 E i figliuoli di (Israel) Ruben e Gad aveano molte pecore; e aveano in animali una grande facultà. E avendo veduto Iazer e Galaad terra con buona pastura, atta a nutricar animali, | 1 Now the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle; and they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, and behold, the place was a place for cattle. |
| 2 vennero a Moisè e ad Eleazaro sacerdote ed alli principi della moltitudine, e dissero: | 2 So the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came and said to Moses and to Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the congregation, |
| 3 Atarot e Dibon, lazer e Nemra, Esebon ed Eleale e Saban e Nebo e Beon, | 3 "Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon, |
| 4 la terra che avea percosso Iddio nel cospetto de' figliuoli d'Israel, si è regione abbondevole alla pastura degli animali; e noi, servi tuoi, aviamo molte giumente. | 4 the land which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle; and your servants have cattle." |
| 5 Perciò ti pregiamo, se potemo grazia in te trovare nel cospetto tuo, che tu ci die questa re gione per possessione; nè non ci fare passare il Giordano. | 5 And they said, "If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession; do not take us across the Jordan." |
| 6 Ai quali rispuose Moisè, dicendo: li vostri fratelli andarono a combattere, e voi rimanerete qui? | 6 But Moses said to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben, "Shall your brethren go to the war while you sit here? |
| 7 Perchè sovvertite la mente del popolo, acciò che non passi nella terra che Iddio promesse loro? | 7 Why will you discourage the heart of the people of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD has given them? |
| 8 Non fecero così anco i vostri padri, quando mandati furono di Cadesbarne a vedere la terra (di promessione)? | 8 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land. |
| 9 E quando vennero insino alla valle di Botri, veduta ogni regione, sovvertirono i figliuoli d'Israel, e non voleano andare nella terra che Iddio prometteo loro. | 9 For when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the people of Israel from going into the land which the LORD had given them. |
| 10 E Iddio s'adirò contro di loro, e giurò, e disse: | 10 And the LORD's anger was kindled on that day, and he swore, saying, |
| 11 Se vederanno questi uomini che sono venuti di Egitto, da venti anni in su, la terra ch' io giurai ad Abraam e Isaac e Iacob: e non mi volsero seguitare, | 11 'Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, because they have not wholly followed me; |
| 12 se non Caleb figliuolo di Iefone Cenezeo, e Iosuè figliuolo di Nun: questi fecero la mia volontà. | 12 none except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun, for they have wholly followed the LORD.' |
| 13 E perciò s'adirò Iddio sopra Israel; e me nogli per lo deserto quarant' anni, insino a tanto che fosse consumata tutta quella generazione, la quale avea fatto il male nel cospetto di Dio. | 13 And the LORD's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the LORD was consumed. |
| 14 E voi vi siete levati per li vostri padri, come superbi e come peccatori, perchè venite ad aumentare il furore di Dio contro Israel. | 14 And behold, you have risen in your fathers' stead, a brood of sinful men, to increase still more the fierce anger of the LORD against Israel! |
| 15 Se voi non volete seguitarlo, nella solitudine lo popolo abbandonerà; e voi sarete cagione (di tutto il peccato e) della morte di tutti. | 15 For if you turn away from following him, he will again abandon them in the wilderness; and you will destroy all this people." |
| 16 E loro respuosero: noi faremo le case alle pecore, e le stalle alle giumente, e alli fanciulli nostri le terre forti e murate. | 16 Then they came near to him, and said, "We will build sheepfolds here for our flocks, and cities for our little ones, |
| 17 E noi verremo, armati, andare alla battaglia innanzi de' figliuoli d'Israel, insino a tanto che gli metteremo in terra sua; e li nostri figliuoli ri marranno, e tutto quello che noi abbiamo, nelle cittade murate, per le insidie degli abitatori. | 17 but we will take up arms, ready to go before the people of Israel, until we have brought them to their place; and our little ones shall live in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land. |
| 18 Noi non torneremo nelle nostre case, persino che non mettiamo i figliuoli d'Israel in posses ione della terra loro. | 18 We will not return to our homes until the people of Israel have inherited each his inheritance. |
| 19 E non volemo alcuna cosa di là dal Gior dano, perciò che avemo qui la nostra eredità nella plaga orientale. | 19 For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond; because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan to the east." |
| 20 Ai quali rispuose Moisè: se voi farete come a noi promettete, cioè che armati vegnate in presenza di Dio a combattere, | 20 So Moses said to them, "If you will do this, if you will take up arms to go before the LORD for the war, |
| 21 tutti coloro che possono combattere passino lo Giordano, insino a tanto che Iddio istruggerà i nimici suoi, | 21 and every armed man of you will pass over the Jordan before the LORD, until he has driven out his enemies from before him |
| 22 e soggiogate tutta la terra; allora sarete senza colpa in presenza di Dio e (di tutto il popolo) d'Israel; e allora averete la terra che voi volete nel cospetto di Dio. | 22 and the land is subdued before the LORD; then after that you shall return and be free of obligation to the LORD and to Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD. |
| 23 Se voi non farete quello che voi promettete, senza dubbio sappiate che voi farete grande peccato verso Dio; ed egli vi pagherà del vestro peccato (che averete commesso verso Iddio). | 23 But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your sin will find you out. |
| 24 Andate, ed edificate le terre ai vostri piccolini; e alle pecore e alle giumente le stalle; e quello che voi avete detto adempiete. | 24 Build cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do what you have promised." |
| 25 Dissero i figliuoli di Gad e di Ruben a Moisè: noi siamo tuoi servi, noi faremo quello che ci comanderai, Signore nostro. | 25 And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben said to Moses, "Your servants will do as my lord commands. |
| 26 E i piccoli e le donne nostre e le pecore e le giumente lascieremo nelle terre di Galaad. | 26 Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall remain there in the cities of Gilead; |
| 27 E noi, servi tuoi, armati anderemo alla battaglia, così come tu, Signore, parlerai. | 27 but your servants will pass over, every man who is armed for war, before the LORD to battle, as my lord orders." |
| 28 Comando Moisè ad Eleazaro sacerdote, e a Iosuè figliuolo di Nun, e a' principi delle famiglie per tutte le tribù, e disse: | 28 So Moses gave command concerning them to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the people of Israel. |
| 29 Se i figliuoli di Gad e di Ruben passeranno con esso noi il Giordano armati, e tutti alla battaglia in presenza di Dio, quando avrete la terra soggetta, date loro Galaad in possessione. | 29 And Moses said to them, "If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, every man who is armed to battle before the LORD, will pass with you over the Jordan and the land shall be subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession; |
| 30 Se non vogliono passare con voi a combat tere nella terra di Canaan, infra voi abbiano la loro eredità. | 30 but if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan." |
| 31 Respuosero i figliuoli di Gad e di Ruben: secondo ch' hae parlato il nostro Signore, così faranno i servi suoi. | 31 And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answered, "As the LORD has said to your servants, so we will do. |
| 32 Noi armati anderemo in presenza di Dio nella terra di Canaan; e noi confessiamo già d'avere in possessione di là dal Giordano. | 32 We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan." |
| 33 Diede Moisè ai figliuoli di Gad e di Ruben, e alla mezza parte della tribù di Manasse figliuolo di Iosef, lo regno di Seon re degli Amorrei, e il regno di Og del re di Basan, e tutta la terra loro per tutto il circuito. | 33 And Moses gave to them, to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land and its cities with their territories, the cities of the land throughout the country. |
| 34 E li figliuoli di Gad edificarono Dibon e Atarot e Aroer, | 34 And the sons of Gad built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer, |
| 35 ed Etrot e Sofan e lazer e Iegbaa, | 35 Atroth-shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah, |
| 36 e Betnemra e Betaran, città murate, e le stalle alle loro pecore. | 36 Beth-nimrah and Beth-haran, fortified cities, and folds for sheep. |
| 37 E i figliuoli di Ruben edificarono Esebon ed Eleale e Cariataim, | 37 And the sons of Reuben built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim, |
| 38 e Nabo e Baalmeon, con i nomi voltati, e Sabama: imponevano i nomi alle terre le quali edificavano. | 38 Nebo, and Baal-meon (their names to be changed), and Sibmah; and they gave other names to the cities which they built. |
| 39 I figliuoli di Machir figliuolo di Manasse an darono in Galaad, e guastaronla, morto l'Amorreo abitatore di quella. | 39 And the sons of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and took it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were in it. |
| 40 Diede dunque Moisè la terra di Galaad a Machir figliuolo di Manasse, il quale abitò in essa. | 40 And Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he settled in it. |
| 41 lair figliuolo di Manasse andò e occupoe tutte le ville, le quali appelloe AVOTIAIR, cioè le ville di lair. | 41 And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took their villages, and called them Havvoth-jair. |
| 42 Nobe andò, e tolse Canat colle sue perti nenze, e chiamolle per suo nome NOBE. | 42 And Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages, and called it Nobah, after his own name. |
