| 1 Non attendere alle inique possessioni, e non dirai: la vita mi basta; nulla ti gioverae questo nel tempo della vendetta e della morte. | 1 Do not set your heart on your wealth, nor say, "I have enough." |
| 2 Non seguirai nella fortitudine tua la concupiscenza del cuore tuo. | 2 Do not follow your inclination and strength, walking according to the desires of your heart. |
| 3 E non dirai: quanto posso io! or chi sottometterae me per li miei fatti? Per che Iddio giudicante vendicherae. | 3 Do not say, "Who will have power over me?" for the Lord will surely punish you. |
| 4 Non dire or io peccai; che cosa trista per quello m'avvenne? Però che l' Altissimo è paziente meritatore. | 4 Do not say, "I sinned, and what happened to me?" for the Lord is slow to anger. |
| 5 Nello umiliamento de' peccatori non essere tu sanza paura; non accumulare peccato sopra peccato, | 5 Do not be so confident of atonement that you add sin to sin. |
| 6 dicendo: la misericordia di Dio è grande egli averà misericordia della moltitudine de' miei peccati. | 6 Do not say, "His mercy is great, he will forgive the multitude of my sins," for both mercy and wrath are with him, and his anger rests on sinners. |
| 7 Però che la misericordia e l'ira di colui tosto s' approssima; e l'ira sua guata nelli peccatori. | 7 Do not delay to turn to the Lord, nor postpone it from day to day; for suddenly the wrath of the Lord will go forth, and at the time of punishment you will perish. |
| 8 Non tardare di convertirti a Dio, e non t' indugiare di dì in dì. | 8 Do not depend on dishonest wealth, for it will not benefit you in the day of calamity. |
| 9 Però che subito viene l'ira di colui; e nel tempo della vendetta disperderae te. | 9 Do not winnow with every wind, nor follow every path: the double-tongued sinner does that. |
| 10 Non essere sollecito nelle ingiuste ricchezze; nulla per certo ti gioveranno nel dì della morte e della vendetta. | 10 Be steadfast in your understanding, and let your speech be consistent. |
| 11 Non ti ventolare in ogni vento, e non andare in ogni via; in questo modo si prova, quando il peccatore è di doppia lingua. | 11 Be quick to hear, and be deliberate in answering. |
| 12 Sii fermo nella via di Dio, e nella verità del senno tuo e nella scienza; e sèguitino te parole di pace e di giustizia. | 12 If you have understanding, answer your neighbor; but if not, put your hand on your mouth. |
| 13 Sii mansueto ad udire la parola (di Dio), acciò che tu intenda, e con sapienza proferi vera risposta. | 13 Glory and dishonor come from speaking, and a man's tongue is his downfall. |
| 14 Se tu hai intelletto, rispondi al prossimo; e se non, poni la mano tua sopra la bocca tua, acciò che tu non sia preso nel parlare sciocco, e sia tu confuso. | 14 Do not be called a slanderer, and do not lie in ambush with your tongue; for shame comes to the thief, and severe condemnation to the double-tongued. |
| 15 Onore e gloria è nel sermone savio; ma la lingua del matto è sua sovversione. | 15 In great and small matters do not act amiss, and do not become an enemy instead of a friend. |
| 16 Non si chiamato biasimatore altrui (in tua vita), acciò che per la tua lingua non si preso, nel favellare) e confuso. | |
| 17 Sopra al ladro sì è confusione e pentimento, e al doppio infamia pessima; e allo biasimatore (e allo iscommettitore) sì è voluto male, e fatto ingiuria e villania. | |
| 18 Al picciolo e al grande insiememente loda. | |
