Proverbi 1

BIBBIA VOLGARE	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 Queste sono le parabole di Salomone, figliuolo del re David,	1 The parables of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel,
2 per dare sapienza e disciplina,	2 in order to know wisdom and discipline,
3 per intender le parole della prudenza, e per ricever verace dottrina, giustizia, giudicio ed equità,	3 to understand words of prudence, and to accept the instruction of doctrine, justice and judgment, and equity,
4 acciò che a' fanciulli sia dato astuzia, e a' giovani scienza e intendimento.	4 so as to give discernment to little ones, knowledge and understanding to adolescents.
5 Udendo l'uomo savio, si farà più savio; e appararà di gubernare (sua vita e l'altrui).	5 By listening, the wise shall become wiser and the intelligent shall possess governments.
6 Considerarà le parabole e la interpretazione, le parole de' savii e gli loro parlari oscuri.	6 He shall turn his soul to a parable and to its interpretation, to the words of the wise and their enigmas.
7 Lo principio della sapienza è il timore di Dio. Ma i stulti spregiano la dottrina e la sapienza.	7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The foolish despise wisdom as well as doctrine.
8 O figliuolo, audi la disciplina (e la correzione). del tuo padre, e non spregiare la legge della madre tua,	8 Listen, my son, to the discipline of your father, and forsake not the law of your mother,
9 acciò ch' egli creschi grazia al capo tuo, e orni il collo tuo.	9 so that grace may be added to your head and a collar to your neck.
10 Figliuolo mio, se gli uomini peccatori ti persuaderanno agli loro errori, non consentire a loro.	10 My son, if sinners should entice you, do not consent to them.
11 Se diranno: vieni con noi, e mettiamo agguato contra la vita d' altrui, e poniamo secretamente i lacci contra allo innocente senza colpa (ovver sua cagione);	11 If they should say: “Come with us. We will lie in wait for blood. We will lay traps against the innocent, without cause.
12 deglutiamolo vivo, come fa lo inferno, e trattiamolo come degno di morte;	12 Let us swallow him alive, like Hell, and whole, like one descending into the pit.
13 e poi prenderemo il suo avere, e le sue cose metteremo nelle nostre case (egli è molto ricco);	13 We will discover every precious substance. We will fill our houses with spoils.
14 ora accempàgnati con noi, e tutto il guadagno sia nostro a comune;	14 Cast your lot with us. One purse will be for us all.”
15 figliuolo mio, non andare appresso a cotal gente, e guàrdati dalle loro vie.	15 My son, do not walk with them. Preclude your feet from their paths.
16 Però che non intendono se non a far male, e non vogliono se non spander sangue (e uccider gente).	16 For their feet rush to evil, and they hurry to shed blood.
17 Ma vanamente si tendono le reti dinanzi degli uomini prudenti.	17 But a net is thrown in vain before the eyes of those who have wings.
18 Ma in verità peccano contra a loro stessi, e fanno malizie contro a loro anime.	18 Likewise, they lie in ambush against their own blood, and they undertake deceits against their own souls.
19 Cotali sono le vie di tutti gli avari; molte cose penserà l'avaro, come possi acquistare l'avere delle genti.	19 Thus, the ways of all those who are greedy seize the souls of those who possess.
20 La sapienza prèdica (e grida) ne' luoghi manifesti, e nelle piazze estende la voce sua.	20 Wisdom forewarns far and wide; she bestows her voice in the streets.
21 (Con frequenza) grida dove si còngregano le turbe; nelle porte della città chiama in alto, e dice:	21 She cries out at the head of crowds; at the entrance of the gates of the city, she offers her words, saying:
22 O voi, miei fanciulli, per che amate singularmente le cose puerili? e come stulti desiderate ciò che non vi giova? e come imprudenti avete in odio la scienza?	22 “Little ones, how long will you choose to be childish, and how long will the foolish desire what is harmful to themselves, and how long will the imprudent hate knowledge?
23 Convertitevi (e ritornate) alla mia correzione; e io vi manifestarò la mia intelligenza, e dimostrerovvi (per esperimento) lo effetto delle mie parole.	23 Be converted by my correction. Lo, I will offer my spirit to you, and I will reveal my words to you.
24 Per che io vi chiamai, e voi vi faceste beffe di me; io stesi la mano mia, e non fu chi guardasse.	24 For I called, and you refused. I extended my hand, and there was no one who watched.
25 Avete spregiato ogni mio consiglio, e le reprensioni mie non avete estimate.	25 You have despised all my counsels, and you have neglected my rebukes.
26 Anche nella destruzione vostra me ne riderò; e spregiarovvi, quando vi intraverrà quello di che vi temevi.	26 Similarly, I will ridicule you at your demise, and I will mock you, when that which you feared shall overcome you.
27 Quando caderete repentinamente in calamitade, e lo interito quasi come sùbita tempesta sopra di voi ruinerà; quando sopra voi verrà tribulazione e angustia (sùbito vi dispiacerà);	27 When sudden calamity rushes upon you, and your demise advances like a tempest, when tribulation and anguish overcome you,
28 allora mi chiameranno, e io non esaudirò; la mattina si leveranno, e non mi troveranno.	28 then they will call to me, and I will not heed, they will arise in the morning, and not find me.
29 Però che loro non mi volsero udire, e non curarono del timore di Dio;	29 For they held hatred for discipline, and they would not accept the fear of the Lord;
30 nè si curorono del mio consiglio, e maledissero a tutte le mie correzioni.	30 they would not consent to my counsel, but they detracted from all of my corrections.
31 Mangeranno de' frutti delle vie loro, e (delle opere) de' consigli loro si saziaranno.	31 Therefore, they shall eat the fruit of their way, and they shall have their fill of their own counsels.
32 La opera de' fanciulli (e puerile) ucciderà loro, e la prosperità de' pazzi perderà loro.	32 The loathing of the little ones shall destroy them, and the prosperity of the foolish shall perish them.
33 Qualunque mi udirà si riposerà senza paura; e (con delettazione) si riposerà nell' abbondanza, rimosso il timore de' cattivi.	33 But whoever will listen to me shall rest without terror, and shall have full enjoyment of abundance, without fear of evils.”
