| 1 Ma fatto è, che alcuno di venissero li figliuoli di Dio, e stessero dinanzi al Signore, e fosse venuto anco Satana fra loro, e stesse nel cospetto suo. | 1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the LORD. |
| 2 E disse lo Signore a Satana: donde vieni? Il quale rispose, e disse: io hoe intorniata la terra, e andai per tutta quella. | 2 And the LORD said to Satan, "Whence have you come?" Satan answered the LORD, "From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it." |
| 3 E disse lo Signore a Satana: or non hai tu considerato lo servo mio Iob, che non è alcuno simile a lui nella terra, uomo puro e diritto, e temente Iddio e partendosi dal male e ancora ritenente la innocenza? Ma tu hai commosso me contro a lui, acciò ch' io lo affliggessi indarno. | 3 And the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil? He still holds fast his integrity, although you moved me against him, to destroy him without cause." |
| 4 Allora rispose Satana a lui, e disse: la pelle per la pelle, e ogni cosa che l' uomo hae, darà per l'anima sua. | 4 Then Satan answered the LORD, "Skin for skin! All that a man has he will give for his life. |
| 5 Stendi altrimenti la mano tua, (metti) e tocca la bocca sua e la carne; e allora vedrai, se nella faccia ti benedirà. | 5 But put forth thy hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face." |
| 6 Disse adunque lo Signore a Satana: ecco nella mano tua è, ma l'anima sua conserva (e guarda). | 6 And the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, he is in your power; only spare his life." |
| 7 Partitosi Satan dalla faccia di Dio, percosse Iob con pessima ferita, dalla pianta del piede insino alla sommità del capo; | 7 So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD, and afflicted Job with loathsome sores from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. |
| 8 il quale colla testa la marcia rendea, sedendo in luogo immondo. | 8 And he took a potsherd with which to scrape himself, and sat among the ashes. |
| 9 E disse a Iob la moglie sua: così ancora sta' tu nella sciocchezza tua? Benedici Iddio, e mori. | 9 Then his wife said to him, "Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God, and die." |
| 10 Il quale disse a lei quasi come una delle sciocche femine hae favellato; se le buone cose abbiamo ricevuto dalle mani del Signore, dunque li mali perchè noi non li sosteniamo? In tutte queste cose non peccò Iob colle labbre sue. | 10 But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips. |
| 11 Adunqne udendo tre amici di Iob ogni male incontrato, venne ciascuno dal luogo suo, i quali aveano nome, l'uno Elifaz Temanite, e l' altro Baldad Suite, e l'ultimo Sofar Naamatite; i quali si aveano ordinato parimente, che voleano venire a visitare e consolare Iob. | 11 Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that had come upon him, they came each from his own place, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. They made an appointment together to come to condole with him and comfort him. |
| 12 E venendo, levarono gli occhi suoi dalla lunga, e loro non lo conobbero, e gridando piansero, e squarciarons i vestimenti, e sparsero polvere sopra lo capo suo in cielo. | 12 And when they saw him from afar, they did not recognize him; and they raised their voices and wept; and they rent their robes and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven. |
| 13 E sedettero in terra con lui sette di e sette notti, e niuno dicea alcuna parola; vedeano veramente che lo dolore era grande. | 13 And they sat with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his suffering was very great. |
