| 1 Nel XXXVI anno del regno suo ascendè Baasa re d'Israel in Giuda, e circondava Rama di muro acciò che niuno potesse nè entrare nè uscire sicuro del regno di Asa. | 1 In the thirty-sixth year of the reign of Asa, Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might permit no one to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah. |
| 2 Per la quale cosa Asa trasse fuori ariento e oro de' tesori della casa del Signore, e [de'] tesori del re; e mandò a Benadab re di Siria, il quale abitava in Damasco, e disse: | 2 Then Asa took silver and gold from the treasures of the house of the LORD and the king's house, and sent them to Ben-hadad king of Syria, who dwelt in Damascus, saying, |
| 3 Tra me e te è patto, e il padre mio e il padre tuo ebbero concordia; per la quale cosa io t' hoe mandato oro e ariento, acciò che, rotto il patto il quale tu hai con Baasa re d' Israel, facci ch' egli si parta da me. | 3 "Let there be a league between me and you, as between my father and your father; behold, I am sending to you silver and gold; go, break your league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may withdraw from me." |
| 4 La quale cosa saputa, Benadab mandò gli principi del suo esercito alle città d' Israel; i quali percossero Aion e Dan e Abelmaim, e tutte le cittadi murate di Neftali. | 4 And Ben-hadad hearkened to King Asa, and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel, and they conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel-maim, and all the store-cities of Naphtali. |
| 5 La quale cosa veggendo Baasa, lasciò istare di edificare Rama, e lasciò l'opera sua. | 5 And when Baasha heard of it, he stopped building Ramah, and let his work cease. |
| 6 E Asa re congregoe tutto Giuda, e tolsero le pietre di Rama e il legname il quale era apparecchiato da Baasa per edificare (Rama); e di questo edificò Gabaa e Masfa. | 6 Then King Asa took all Judah, and they carried away the stones of Ramah and its timber, with which Baasha had been building, and with them he built Geba and Mizpah. |
| 7 In quello tempo venne Anani profeta ad Asa re di Giuda, e disse a lui: però che tu avesti fede nel re di Siria, e non nel Signore Dio tuo, però lo esercito del re di Siria è campato delle tue mani. | 7 At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said to him, "Because you relied on the king of Syria, and did not rely on the LORD your God, the army of the king of Syria has escaped you. |
| 8 Non era egli molto più le quadrighe di quelli di Libia e di Etiopia, i quali erano moltitudine grandissima, i quali il Signore diede nelle tue mani, credendo te in lui? | 8 Were not the Ethiopians and the Libyans a huge army with exceedingly many chariots and horsemen? Yet because you relied on the LORD, he gave them into your hand. |
| 9 Però che i suoi occhii vedono tutta la terra; e danno fortezza a coloro i quali con tutto il cuore credono in lui. Onde istoltamente hai fatto; e però del tempo presente si leverà guerra contra di te. | 9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show his might in behalf of those whose heart is blameless toward him. You have done foolishly in this; for from now on you will have wars." |
| 10 E irato Asa contra il vidente, comandò che fosse messo in prigione; per questo certo fu molto indignato (il Signore), e in quello tempo uccise molti del popolo. | 10 Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in the stocks, in prison, for he was in a rage with him because of this. And Asa inflicted cruelties upon some of the people at the same time. |
| 11 E l'opere di Asa, prime e ultime, sono scritte nel libro de' re di Giuda e d'Israel. | 11 The acts of Asa, from first to last, are written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel. |
| 12 E infermò Asa nel XXX nono anno del suo regno di fortissimo dolore de' piedi, e anco nella sua infermità non richiese Iddio; maggiormente si confidoe nell' arte de' medici. | 12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was diseased in his feet, and his disease became severe; yet even in his disease he did not seek the LORD, but sought help from physicians. |
| 13 E dormìo (Asa) coi padri suoi; e morì nel XLI anno del suo regno. | 13 And Asa slept with his fathers, dying in the forty-first year of his reign. |
| 14 E seppellironlo nel sepolcro, il quale egli s' avea fatto nella città di David; e puoserlo di sopra al letto suo, pieno di spezie e di unguenti, quali erano conficiati secondo l'arte de' conficiatori degli unguenti; e arsergli sopra lui con grande ambizione. | 14 They buried him in the tomb which he had hewn out for himself in the city of David. They laid him on a bier which had been filled with various kinds of spices prepared by the perfumer's art; and they made a very great fire in his honor. |
