1 Як же почув Адоніцедек, цар єрусалимський, що Ісус узяв Аї та зруйнував його дощенту, що він так учинив з Аї і царем його, як учинив був з Єрихоном і царем його, і що мешканці Гівеону замирилися з Ізраїлем і жили серед нього, —	1 Now Adonizedek, king of Jerusalem, heard that, in the capture and destruction of Ai, Joshua had done to that city and its king as he had done to Jericho and its king. He heard also that the inhabitants of Gibeon had made their peace with Israel, remaining among them,
2 налякавсь він вельми, бо Гівеон був велике місто, як одне з міст царських, а навіть більше, ніж Аї, і всі чоловіки його були хоробрі.	2 and that there was great fear abroad, because Gibeon was large enough for a royal city, larger even than the city of Ai, and all its men were brave.
3 От і послав Адоніцедек, цар єрусалимський, до Гогама, царя хевронського, до Пірама, царя ярмутського, до Яфії, царя лахішського, і до Девіра, царя еглонського, сказати:	3 So Adonizedek, king of Jerusalem, sent for Hoham, king of Hebron, Piram, king of Jarmuth, Japhia, king of Lachish, and Debir, king of Eglon,
4 «Ходіть до мене та поможіть мені, щоб нам побити Гівеона, бо він замирився з Ісусом та з синами Ізраїля.»	4 to come to his aid for an attack on Gibeon, since it had concluded peace with Joshua and the Israelites.
5 От і зібрались п’ять царів аморійських: цар єрусалимський, цар хевронський, цар ярмутський, цар лахішський і цар еглонський, самі вони й усе їхнє військо, і прибули та облягли Гівеон та й почали війну на нього.	5 The five Amorite kings, of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish and Eglon, united all their forces and marched against Gibeon, where they took up siege positions.
6 Тим часом мешканці Гівеону послали до Ісуса в табір у Гілгал сказати: «Не покидай слуг твоїх. Рушай до нас хутко на підмогу та поможи нам, бо всі царі аморійські, що живуть по горах, виполчились на нас.»	6 Thereupon, the men of Gibeon sent an appeal to Joshua in his camp at Gilgal: "Do not abandon your servants. Come up here quickly and save us. Help us, because all the Amorite kings of the mountain country have joined forces against us."
7 І вирушив Ісус із Гілгалу, сам він і з ним увесь люд збройний, усе войовники хоробрі.	7 So Joshua marched up from Gilgal with his picked troops and the rest of his soldiers.
8 І сказав Господь Ісусові: «Не лякайсь їх, бо я віддам тобі їх у руки; ніхто з них не встоїться перед тобою.»	8 Meanwhile the LORD said to Joshua, "Do not fear them, for I have delivered them into your power. Not one of them will be able to withstand you."
9 Ісус напав на них зненацька, бо йшов з Гілгалу всю ніч.	9 And when Joshua made his surprise attack upon them after an all-night march from Gilgal,
10 І Господь примусив їх утікати від Ізраїля, і завдав він їм великої поразки біля Гівеону; і гнався за ними в гори, в напрямку на Бет-Хорон, б’ючи їх аж до Азеки й Македи.	10 the LORD threw them into disorder before him. The Israelites inflicted a great slaughter on them at Gibeon and pursued them down the Beth-horon slope, harrassing them as far as Azekah and Makkedah.
11 І коли вони, втікаючи від Ізраїля, були на схилі Бет-Хорону, Господь спустив на них величезне каміння з неба аж до Азеки, їм на загибель; більше було тих, що загинули від кам’яного граду, ніж тих, що їх повбивали мечем сини Ізраїля.	11 While they fled before Israel along the descent from Beth-horon, the LORD hurled great stones from the sky above them all the way to Azekah, killing many. More died from these hailstones than the Israelites slew with the sword.
12 Тоді Ісус промовив до Господа, того власне дня, коли Господь віддав аморіїв на поталу синам Ізраїля, а сказав це перед Ізраїлем: «Сонце, спинись над Гівеоном; ти, о місяцю, в Аялон-долині.»	12 On this day, when the LORD delivered up the Amorites to the Israelites,
13 І зупинилося сонце, і став місяць, аж доки народ не помстивсь над ворогами. Чи ж не стоїть це написане в книзі Яшар? І сонце зупинилося серед неба й не квапилося заходити майже цілий день.	13 And the sun stood still,
14 Не було більш такого дня, як той день, ні передше, ні після цього, щоб Господь слухав голос людини, бо Господь воював за Ізраїля.	14 Never before or since was there a day like this, when the LORD obeyed the voice of a man; for the LORD fought for Israel.
15 І повернувсь Ісус і з ним увесь Ізраїль до табору в Гілгал.	15 (Then Joshua and all Israel returned to the camp at Gilgal.)
16 П’ять же царів тих втекло та й, й сховались у печері Македи.	16 Meanwhile the five kings who had fled, hid in a cave at Makkedah.
17 І донесли Ісусові: «Найшлися п’ять царів, схованих у печері Македи.»	17 When Joshua was told that the five kings had been discovered hiding in a cave at Makkedah,
18 Ісус велів: «Прикотіть велике каміння до входу в печеру й поставте кілька чоловік коло неї стерегти їх.	18 he said, "Roll large stones to the mouth of the cave and post men over it to guard them.
19 Самі ж не зупиняйтесь, доганяйте ворогів ваших, наступайте на їхні тили; не давайте їм увійти в міста їхні, бо Господь, Бог ваш, віддав їх вам у руки.»	19 But do not remain there yourselves. Pursue your enemies, and harry them in the rear. Do not allow them to escape to their cities, for the LORD, your God, has delivered them into your power."
20 Як же скінчив Ісус та сини Ізраїля бити їх страшенним боєм, аж до повного їх погрому, — хто зоставсь із них, ті повтікали в укріплені міста, —	20 Once Joshua and the Israelites had finally inflicted the last blows in this very great slaughter, and the survivors had escaped from them into the fortified cities,
21 ввесь народ повернувсь до з табору, до Ісуса, в Македу, мирно; ніхто не важивсь більш відкрити й рота проти синів Ізраїля.	21 all the army returned safely to Joshua and the camp at Makkedah, no man uttering a sound against the Israelites.
22 Тоді Ісус велів: «Відчиніть щелепи печери та виведіть до мене тих п’ятьох царів з печери.»	22 Then Joshua said, "Open the mouth of the cave and bring out those five kings to me."
23 І так учинили й вивели до нього п’ятьох царів з печери: царя єрусалимського, царя хевронського, царя ярмутського, царя лахішського й царя егдонського.	23 Obediently, they brought out to him from the cave the five kings, of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish and Eglon.
24 Коли приведено тих царів до Ісуса, покликав він усіх ізраїльтян і сказав старшині військового люду, що з ним ходили: «Приступіть і покладіть цим царям вашу ногу на шию.» Ті ж приступили і поклали царям ногу на шию.	24 When they had done so, Joshua summoned all the men of Israel and said to the commanders of the soldiers who had marched with him, "Come forward and put your feet on the necks of these kings." They came forward and put their feet upon their necks.
25 І сказав до них Ісус: «Не лякайтесь і не бійтесь, будьте відважні й хоробрі, бо так чинитиме Господь з усіма ворогами вашими, що з ними будете воювати.»	25 Then Joshua said to them, "Do not be afraid or dismayed, be firm and steadfast. This is what the LORD will do to all the enemies against whom you fight."
26 Потім Ісус ударами забив їх на смерть, і повісив їх на п’ятьох шибеницях, і висіли вони аж до вечора.	26 Thereupon Joshua struck and killed them, and hanged them on five trees, where they remained hanging until evening.
27 Як же заходило сонце, звелів Ісус поздіймати їх з шибениць і вкинути їх до печери, де вони були сховались; до входу ж у печеру прикотили велике каміння, що лежить там і досі.	27 At sunset they were removed from the trees at the command of Joshua and cast into the cave where they had hidden; over the mouth of the cave large stones were placed, which remain until this very day.
28 Того ж самого дня завоював Ісус Македу і вистинав його, разом з його царем, вістрям меча й винищив їх геть з усім живим, що було в ньому; не попустив нікому втекти; а з царем Македи він повівся так само, як повівся був з царем єрихонським.	28 Makkedah, too, Joshua captured and put to the sword at that time. He fulfilled the doom on the city, on its king, and on every person in it, leaving no survivors. Thus he did to the king of Makkedah what he had done to the king of Jericho.
29 І рушив далі Ісус, а з ним увесь Ізраїль, з Македи на Лівну й став воювати з Лівною.	29 Joshua then passed on with all Israel from Makkedah to Libnah, which he attacked.
30 Господь віддав також і це місто з його царем у руки Ізраїлеві, і він побив його вістрям меча з усім живим, що було в ньому; не дав утекти нікому з нього, а з царем його повівся так само, як повівся був з царем єрихонським.	30 Libnah also, with its king, the LORD delivered into the power of Israel. He put it to the sword with every person there, leaving no survivors. Thus he did to its king what he had done to the king of Jericho.
31 Тоді двигнувся Ісус і ввесь Ізраїль із ним від Лівни на Лахіш, обліг його і став з ним воювати.	31 Joshua next passed on with all Israel from Libnah to Lachish, where they set up a camp during the attack.
32 І віддав Господь Лахіш Ізраїлеві в руки; на другий день він його здобув і побив вістрям меча з усім живим, що було в ньому, так само, як учинив був з Лівною.	32 The LORD delivered Lachish into the power of Israel, so that on the second day Joshua captured it and put it to the sword with every person in it, just as he had done to Libnah.
33 Тоді прийшов був Горам, цар гезерський, Лахішеві на підмогу, та Ісус так побив його й його військо, що не лишилося живої душі в нього.	33 At that time Horam, king of Gezer, came up to help Lachish, but Joshua defeated him and his people, leaving him no survivors.
34 Двигнувся тоді Ісус з усім Ізраїлем від Лахішу на Еглон, і облягли вони його і розпочали війну з ним.	34 From Lachish, Joshua passed on with all Israel to Eglon; encamping near it, they attacked it
35 Взяли вони його того ж самого дня й побили вістрям меча, і винищили того дня геть чисто всі душі в ньому, так само, як учинив він був з Лахішем.	35 and captured it the same day, putting it to the sword. He fulfilled the doom that day on every person in it, just as he had done at Lachish.
36 З Еглону рушив Ісус з усім Ізраїлем на Хеврон та й розпочав бій з ним.	36 From Eglon, Joshua went up with all Israel to Hebron, which they attacked
37 Взяли вони його й побили його вістрям меча, й царя його з усіма містами й з усім, що було живим у ньому, не пощадивши нічого, точнісінько, як був учинив він з Еглоном. Він доконав над ним повне знищення та над усім живим, що було в ньому.	37 and captured. They put it to the sword with its king, all its towns, and every person there, leaving no survivors, just as Joshua had done to Eglon. He fulfilled the doom on it and on every person there.
38 Звідси повернувсь Ісус з усім Ізраїлем проти Девіру та й розпочав наступ на нього.	38 Then Joshua and all Israel turned back to Debir and attacked it,
39 Він узяв його з його царем і з усіма його містами й вистинав його вістрям меча й винищив дощенту все живе в ньому, не зоставляючи нікого живим; так як розправивсь був із Хевроном, так само він розправивсь із Девіром та його царем, і як розправився з Лівною та її царем.	39 capturing it with its king and all its towns. They put them to the sword and fulfilled the doom on every person there, leaving no survivors. Thus was done to Debir and its king what had been done to Hebron, as well as to Libnah and its king.
40 Отак підбив Ісус увесь край: гори, Негев, поділля, підгір’я з усіма їхніми царями; не лишив живим нічого, він винищив дощенту все живе, як повелів Господь, Бог Ізраїля.	40 Joshua conquered the entire country; the mountain regions, the Negeb, the foothills, and the mountain slopes, with all their kings. He left no survivors, but fulfilled the doom on all who lived there, just as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded.
41 Ісус розбив їх від Кадеш-Барне до Гази та всю країну від Гошену аж до Гівеону.	41 Joshua conquered from Kadesh-barnea to Gaza, and all the land of Goshen to Gibeon.
42 Розгромив Ісус усіх царів тих та забрав одним походом усі їхні землі, бо Господь, Бог Ізраїля, воював за Ізраїля.	42 All these kings and their lands Joshua captured in a single campaign, for the LORD, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.
43 Нарешті повернувся Ісус з усім Ізраїлем до табору в Гілгал.	43 Thereupon Joshua with all Israel returned to the camp at Gilgal.
