BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 L'alto firmamento è sua be lezza. L'aspetto del cielo ne fa vedere la gloria,	1 Pride of the heights, a clear vault of the sky -- such is the beauty of the heavens, a glorious sight.
2 Il sole al suo apparire si proclama, coll'uscir fuori, maraviglioso strumento, opera dell'Altissimo.	2 The sun, as he emerges, proclaims at his rising, 'How wonderful a thing, the work of the Most High!'
3 Al mezzogiorno arroventa la terra: chi potrà reggere dinanzi ai suoi ardori? Come chi mantiene la fornace pei lavori a fuoco,	3 At his zenith, he parches the ground, who can withstand his blaze?
4 tre volte di più, il sole brucia le montagne, vibrando raggi di fuoco, e col fulgore dei suoi raggi abbacina gli occhi.	4 We have to blow the furnace to produce any heat, the sun burns the mountains three times as much;breathing out blasts of fire, flashing his rays, he dazzles the eyes.
5 Grande è il Signore che l'ha fatto: al suo comando egli accelera la sua corsa.	5 Great is the Lord who created him and whose word speeds him on his course.
6 E la luna, con tutte (le sue fasi) a suo tempo, indica i tempi e segna l'età.	6 And then the moon, ever punctual to mark the times, an everlasting sign:
7 Dalla luna (viene) il segno della festa, dal luminare che, arrivato alla pienezza, decresce	7 It is the moon that signals the feasts, a luminary that wanes after being ful .
8 Il mese ha preso il nome da lei, che cresce mirabilmente fino ad esser piena.	8 The month derives its name from hers, she waxes wonderful y in her phases, banner of the hosts onhigh, shining in the vault of heaven.
9 Un esercito è nel più alto dei cieli, risplende gloriosamente nel firmamento celeste.	9 The glory of the stars makes the beauty of the sky, a brilliant adornment of the Lord on High.
10 Lo splendore delle stelle è la bellezza del cielo, dalle altezze più sublimi il Signore illumina il mondo.	10 At the words of the Holy One they stand as he decrees, and never grow slack at their watch.
11 Secondo la parola del Santo stanno al posto assegnato, e non si stancano nelle loro veglie.	11 See the rainbow and praise its Maker, so superbly beautiful in its splendour.
12 Mira l'arcobaleno e benedici chi l'ha fatto: è molto bello nel suo splendore.	12 Across the sky it forms a glorious arc drawn by the hands of the Most High.
13 Fa il giro del cielo col suo cerchio di gloria: lo han disteso le mani dell'Altissimo.	13 By his command he sends the snow, he speeds the lightning by his command.
14 Col suo comando fa precipitar la neve, si affretta a lanciar i fulmini del suo giudizio.	14 In the same way, his treasuries open and the clouds fly out like birds.
15 A tal fine si aprono i ripostigli, e le nuvole volan via come uccelli.	15 His great power solidifies the clouds, then pulverises them into hail.
16 Colla sua gran potenza addensa le nubi, e se ne staccano le pietre della grandine.	16 at the sight of him, the mountains quake. At his wil the south wind blows,or the storm from the northand the whirlwind.
17 Davanti a lui tremeranno i monti, per suo volere soffierà il vento australe.	17 At the roar of his thunder, the earth writhes in labour,
18 Il rumore del suo tuono percoterà la terra, così il turbine aquilonare e il confluir vorticoso dei venti.	18 He sprinkles snow like birds alighting, it comes down like locusts settling. The eye marvels at thebeauty of its whiteness, and the mind is amazed at its falling.
19 Fa spandere la neve come uccelli che calano a riposarsi, essa discende come locusta che tutto ricopre.	19 Over the earth, like salt, he also pours hoarfrost, which, when it freezes, bristles like thorns.
20 L'occhio ne ammirerà il candore e il cuore si spaventerà per il fioccar di lei.	20 The cold wind blows from the north, and ice forms on the water; it forms on every piece of standingwater, covering it like a breastplate.
21 Egli spanderà come sale sulla terra la brina, la quale, ghiacciata, diventerà come punte di triboli.	21 The wind swal ows up the mountains and scorches the desert, like a fire it consumes the vegetation.
22 Al soffiar del freddo vento aquilonare l'acqua si congela in cristallo, che si posa sopra ogni ammasso d'acque e si riveste di acqua come di corazza.	22 But cloud brings swift healing, and dew brings joy after the heat.
23 Egli divora i monti e brucia i deserti, secca ogni verdura come il fuoco.	23 By his own resourcefulness he has tamed the abyss, and planted it with islands.
24 Il rimedio a tutto ciò è il subito apparir d'una nuvola, e la rugiada che, venendo dal calore contrario, lo fa diminuire.	24 Those who sail the sea tell of its dangers, their accounts fill our ears with amazement:
25 Ad una sua parola tace il vento, al suo pensiero si placa l'abisso, nel quale il Signore pianta le isole.	25 for there too exist strange and wonderful works, animals of every kind and huge sea creatures.
26 Quelli che corrono il mare ne raccontino i pericoli, e, sentendoli coi nostri orecchi, ne resteremo stupefatti.	26 Thanks to God, his messenger reaches port, everything works out according to his word.
27 Ivi splendide opere e maraviglie, varie specie di bestie, animali d'ogni sorta e creature mostruose.	27 We could say much more and stil fal short; to put it concisely, 'He is al .'
28 Per lui è assicurato lo scopo del viaggio, alla sua parola tutto si mette in ordine.	28 Where shall we find sufficient power to glorify him, since he is the Great One, above al his works,
29 Diremo molte cose e le parole ci mancheranno, ma la conclusione del discorso è: Egli è in tutto.	29 the awe-inspiring Lord, stupendously great, and wonderful in his power?
30 Per glorificarlo che potremo fare? Egli infatti, l'onnipotente, è superiore a tutte le sue opere.	30 Exalt the Lord in your praises as high as you may -- stil he surpasses you. Exert al your strengthwhen you exalt him, do not grow tired -- you wil never come to the end.
31 Il Signore è terribile ed oltremodo grande, e la sua potenza è maravigliosa.	31 Who has ever seen him to describe him? Who can glorify him as he deserves?
32 Glorificate pure il Signore quanto potete, chè Egli sarà sempre al di sopra, ed è mirabile la sua magnificenza.	32 Many mysteries remain even greater than these, for we have seen only a few of his works,
33 Benedicendo il Signore, esaltatelo quanto potete, perchè Egli è maggiore d'ogni lode.	33 the Lord himself having created al things and given wisdom to those who are devout.
34 Per esaltarlo riempitevi di forza e non vi stancate, chè non arriverete mai.
35 Chi lo potrà vedere per descriverlo? Chi lo potrà lodare com'è ab eterno?
36 Molte (sue opere) nascoste son maggiori di queste: abbiamo visto ben poco delle sue opere.
37 Ma tutto ha fatto il Signore, ed Egli dà la sapienza a chi vive piamente.
