BIBBIA TINTORI	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Molti peccarono per la miseria e chi cerca d'arricchire non guarda altro.	1 Through poverty many have sinned: and he that seeketh to be enriched, turneth away his eye.
2 Come il palo si ficca tra due pietre unite, così il peccato si ficca tra la compra e la vendita.	2 As a stake sticketh fast in the midst of the joining of stones, so also in the midst of selling and buying, sin shall stick fast.
3 Ma il peccato e il peccatore saran distrutti.	3 Sin shall be destroyed with the sinner.
4 Se non ti tieni con tinuamente saldo nel timor del Signore, andrà presto in rovina la tua casa.	4 Unless thou hold thyself diligently in the fear of the Lord, thy house shall quickly be overthrown.
5 Come agitando il vaglio vi restano i rifiuti, così l'ansietà dell'uomo nel suo pensiero.	5 As when one sifteth with a sieve, the dust will remain: so will the perplexity of a man in his thoughts.
6 La fornace prova i vasi di terra, la tentazione della tribolazione prova i giusti.	6 The furnace trieth the potter's vessels, and the trial of affliction just men.
7 Come la cultura dell'albero ne mostra il frutto, così la parola, che procede dal pensiero del cuore dell'uomo.	7 Be the dressing of a tree sheweth the fruit thereof, so a word out of the thought of the heart of man.
8 Non lodare l'uomo avanti che egli abbia parlato: questa infatti è la prova degli uomini.	8 Praise not a man before he speaketh, for this is the trial of men.
9 Se segui la giustizia, la raggiungerai, e te ne rivestirai come di gloriosa veste talare, abiterai con lei, che ti proteggerà in eterno, e nel giorno del giudizio troverai un sostegno.	9 If thou followest justice, thou shalt obtain her: and shalt put her on as a long robe of honour, and thou shalt dwell with her: and she shall protect thee for ever, and in the day of acknowledgment thou shalt find a strong foundation.
10 I volatili si uniscono ai loro simili, e la verità torna a quelli che la praticano.	10 Birds resort unto their like: so truth will return to them that practise her.
11 Il leone tende sempre insidie alla preda, così il peccato tende insidie a chi fa il male.	11 The lion always lieth in wait for prey: so do sine for them that work iniquities.
12 L'uomo santo è stabile nella sapienza come il sole, invece lo stolto cambia come la luna.	12 A holy man continueth in wisdom as the sun: but a fool is changed as the moon.
13 In mezzo agli stolti serba ad altro tempo le parole, stai di continuo in mezzo ai pensatori.	13 In the midst of the unwise keep in the word till its time: but be continually among men that think.
14 Il parlare degli sciocchi fa schifo, perchè ridono nella gioia del peccato.	14 The discourse of sinners is hateful, and their laughter is at the pleasures of sin.
15 Il linguaggio pieno di giuramenti fa rizzare i capelli, la sua irriverenza fa turare le orecchie.	15 The speech that sweareth much shall make the hair of the head stand upright: and its irreverence shall make one stop his ears.
16 Nella rissa dei superbi c'è spargimento di sangue, e le loro maledizioni fan pena a sentirle.	16 Is the quarrels of the proud is the shedding of blood: and their cursing is a grievous hearing.
17 Chi svela i segreti dell'amico ne perde la confidenza, e non troverà un amico secondo il suo cuore.	17 He that discloseth the secret of a friend loseth his credit, and shall never find a friend to his mind.
18 Ama l'amico, e stai a lui unito nella fedeltà;	18 Love thy neighbour, and be joined to him with fidelity.
19 ma se tu ne avrai svelati i segreti, non gli correr dietro.	19 But if thou discover his secrets, follow no more after him.
20 Come l'uomo che ha rovinato l'amico, così chi perde l'amicizia del suo prossimo.	20 For as a man that destroyeth his friend, so also is he that destroyeth the friendship of his neighbour.
21 E come chi si lascia scappare di mano un uccello, così, se hai lasciato andare il tuo amico, non lo ripiglierai.	21 And as one that letteth a bird go out of his hand, so hast thou let thy neighbour go, and thou shalt not get him again.
22 Non gli tener dietro, perchè è lontano, è già fuggito come gazzella al laccio, perchè ha ferita l'anima.	22 Follow after him no more, for he is gone afar off, he is fled, as a roe escaped out of the snare: because his soul is wounded.
23 Non potrai più riunirlo (a te). Anche dopo le ingiurie c'è la riconciliazione,	23 Thou canst no more bind him up. And of a curse there is reconciliation:
24 ma lo scoprire i segreti dell'amico è la disperazione dell'anima disgraziata.	24 But to disclose the secrets of a friend, leaveth no hope to an unhappy soul.
25 Chi ammicca cogli occhi ordisce cose inique, e nessuno lo allontanerà.	25 He that winketh with the eye forgeth wicked things, and no man will cast him off:
26 In faccia a te avrà bocca di miele, e ammirerà i tuoi discorsi; ma alla fine cambierà linguaggio, e nelle tue parole ti metterà la pietra d'inciampo.	26 In the sight of thy eyes he will sweeten his mouth, and will admire thy words: but at the last he will writhe his mouth, and on thy words he will lay a stumblingblock.
27 Molte cose ho in odio, ma non come lui, ed anche il Signore l'odierà.	27 I have hated many things, but not like him, and the Lord will hate him.
28 Se uno setta una pietra per aria, gli cadrà sulla testa; il colpo a tradimento aprirà piaghe nel traditore;	28 If one cast a stone on high, it will fall upon his own head: and the deceitful stroke will wound the deceitful.
29 chi scava la fossa vi cadrà dentro; chi mette una pietra davanti al suo prossimo v'inciamperà; chi tende il laccio a un altro vi perirà;	29 He that diggeth a pit, shall fall into it: and he that setteth a stone for his neighbour, shall stumble upon it: and he that layeth a snare for another, shall perish in it.
30 chi ordisce perverso disegno se lo vedrà ricadere addosso, e non saprà da che parte venga.	30 A mischievous counsel shall be rolled back upon the author, and he shall not know from whence it cometh to him.
31 Gli scherni e gl'improperi son dei superbi, e la vendetta tenderà loro insidie come leone.	31 Mockery and reproach are of the proud, and vengeance as a lion shall lie in wait for him.
32 Periranno nel laccio quelli che si rallegraron della caduta dei giusti; ma il dolore li consumerà prima che muoiano.	32 They shall perish in a snare that are delighted with the fall of the just: and sorrow shall consume them before they die.
33 L'ira e il furore son tutt'e due esecrabili, e il peccatore li avrà dentro.	33 Anger and fury are both of them abominable, and the sinful man shall be subject to them.
