BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Abramo adunque risalì dall'Egitto nella parte meridionale, con la sua moglie, con tutto ciò che aveva e con Lot.	1 From Egypt Abram returned to the Negeb with his wife and al he possessed, and Lot with him.
2 Abramo, molto ricco d'oro e d'argento, da mezzodì, per la strada per cui era venuto,	2 Abram was very rich in livestock, silver and gold.
3 tornò fino a Betel, fino al luogo dove prima aveva piantato la tenda tra Betel ed Ai,	3 By stages he went from the Negeb to Bethel, where he had first pitched his tent, between Bethel andAi,
4 nel posto dell'altare da lui eretto la prima volta: ed ivi invocò il nome del Signore.	4 at the place where he had formerly erected the altar. There Abram invoked the name of Yahweh.
5 Ora anche Lot, che era con Abramo, aveva greggi di pecore, di buoi e tende.	5 Lot, who was travelling with Abram, had flocks and cattle of his own, and tents too.
6 E la regione non era loro sufficiente per abitare insieme, infatti i loro beni eran molti, e non potevano stare insieme.	6 The land was not sufficient to accommodate them both at once, for they had too many possessions tobe able to live together.
7 Per questo nacque anche una contesa tra i pastori dei greggi di Abramo e quelli di Lot, mentre il Cananeo e il Ferezeo abitavano in quella terra.	7 Dispute broke out between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and those of Lot. (The Canaanites andPerizzites were living in the country at the time.)
8 Disse dunque Abramo a Lot: « Mi raccomando, non ci sia contesa fra me e te, fra i miei e i tuoi pastori, perchè noi siamo fratelli.	8 Accordingly Abram said to Lot, 'We do not want discord between us or between my herdsmen andyours, for we are kinsmen.
9 Ecco davanti a te tutto il paese, allontanati da me, ti prego: se tu vai a sinistra, io andrò a destra; se tu vai destra, io andrò a sinistra».	9 Is not the whole land open before you? Go in the opposite direction to me: if you take the left, I shalgo right; if you take the right, I shal go left.'
10 Or Lot, ali gli occhi, mirò tutta la regione fino al Giordano, la quale, prima che il Signore distruggesse Sodoma e Gomorra, irrigata come il paradiso del Signore come l'Egitto, per chi viene a Segor.	10 Looking round, Lot saw all the Jordan plain, irrigated everywhere -- this was before Yahwehdestroyed Sodom and Gomorrah-like the garden of Yahweh or the land of Egypt, as far as Zoar.
11 Lot si scelse il paese intorno al Giordano, e se ne andò a oriente, e cosi si separarono i due fratelli l'uno dall'altro.	11 So Lot chose all the Jordan plain for himself and moved off eastwards. Thus they parted company:
12 Abramo si stabilì nella terra di Canaan, Lot nelle città che erano intorno al Giordano e dimorò in Sodoma.	12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan; Lot settled among the cities of the plain, pitching his tents onthe outskirts of Sodom.
13 Or i Sodomiti erano pessimi e grandi peccatori anzi al Signore.	13 Now the people of Sodom were vicious and great sinners against Yahweh.
14 E il Signore disse ad Abramo, dopo che Lot si fu separato da lui: « Alza gli occhi e mira, dal luogo ove sei ora, a settentrione, a mezzogiorno, a oriente, a occidente.	14 Yahweh said to Abram after Lot had parted company from him, 'Look al round from where you are,to north and south, to east and west,
15 Tutto il paese che vedi, io lo dò a te e ai tuoi posteri in eterno.	15 for al the land within sight I shal give to you and your descendants for ever.
16 E moltiplicherò la tua progenie come la polvere della terra: se alcuno degli uomini può contare la polvere della terra, potrà contare anche i tuoi posteri.	16 I shal make your descendants like the dust on the ground; when people succeed in counting thespecks of dust on the ground, then they wil be able to count your descendants too!
17 Levati su e scorri la terra, quanto è lunga e quant'è larga, chè io te la darò ».	17 On your feet! Travel the length and breadth of the country, for I mean to give it to you.'
18 Allora Abramo levò le sue tende e anadò ad abitare presso la valle di Mambre che è in Ebron, ed ivi edificò un altare Signore.	18 So Abram moved his tent and went to settle at the Oak of Mamre, at Hebron, and there he built analtar to Yahweh.
