Atos dos Apóstolos 15

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Alguns homens, descendo da Judéia, puseram-se a ensinar aos irmãos o seguinte: Se não vos circuncidais, segundo o rito de Moisés, não podeis ser salvos.	1 Then some men came down from Judaea and taught the brothers, 'Unless you have yourselvescircumcised in the tradition of Moses you cannot be saved.'
2 Originou-se então grande discussão de Paulo e Barnabé com eles, e resolveu-se que estes dois, com alguns outros irmãos, fossem tratar desta questão com os apóstolos e os anciãos em Jerusalém.	2 This led to disagreement, and after Paul and Barnabas had had a long argument with these men it wasdecided that Paul and Barnabas and others of the church should go up to Jerusalem and discuss the questionwith the apostles and elders.
3 Acompanhados {algum tempo} dos membros da comunidade, tomaram o caminho que atravessa a Fenícia e Samaria. Contaram a todos os irmãos a conversão dos gentios, o que causou a todos grande alegria.	3 The members of the church saw them off, and as they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria theytold how the gentiles had been converted, and this news was received with the greatest satisfaction by al thebrothers.
4 Chegando a Jerusalém, foram recebidos pela comunidade, pelos apóstolos e anciãos, a quem contaram tudo o que Deus tinha feito com eles.	4 When they arrived in Jerusalem they were welcomed by the church and by the apostles and elders,and gave an account of al that God had done through them.
5 Mas levantaram-se alguns que antes de ter abraçado a fé eram da seita dos fariseus, dizendo que era necessário circuncidar os pagãos e impor-lhes a observância da Lei de Moisés.	5 But certain members of the Pharisees' party who had become believers objected, insisting that gentilesshould be circumcised and instructed to keep the Law of Moses.
6 Reuniram-se os apóstolos e os anciãos para tratar desta questão.	6 The apostles and elders met to look into the matter,
7 Ao fim de uma grande discussão, Pedro levantou-se e lhes disse: Irmãos, vós sabeis que já há muito tempo Deus me escolheu dentre vós, para que da minha boca os pagãos ouvissem a palavra do Evangelho e cressem.	7 and after a long discussion, Peter stood up and addressed them. 'My brothers,' he said, 'you knowperfectly wel that in the early days God made his choice among you: the gentiles were to learn the good newsfrom me and so become believers.
8 Ora, Deus, que conhece os corações, testemunhou a seu respeito, dando-lhes o Espírito Santo, da mesma forma que a nós.	8 And God, who can read everyone's heart, showed his approval of them by giving the Holy Spirit tothem just as he had to us.
9 Nem fez distinção alguma entre nós e eles, purificando pela fé os seus corações.	9 God made no distinction between them and us, since he purified their hearts by faith.
10 Por que, pois, provocais agora a Deus, impondo aos discípulos um jugo que nem nossos pais nem nós pudemos suportar?	10 Why do you put God to the test now by imposing on the disciples the very burden that neither ourancestors nor we ourselves were strong enough to support?
11 Nós cremos que pela graça do Senhor Jesus seremos salvos, exatamente como eles.	11 But we believe that we are saved in the same way as they are: through the grace of the Lord Jesus.'
12 Toda a assembléia o ouviu silenciosamente. Em seguida, ouviram Barnabé e Paulo contar quantos milagres e prodígios Deus fizera por meio deles entre os gentios.	12 The entire assembly fell silent, and they listened to Barnabas and Paul describing al the signs andwonders God had worked through them among the gentiles.
13 Depois de terminarem, Tiago tomou a palavra: Irmãos, ouvi-me, disse ele.	13 When they had finished it was James who spoke. 'My brothers,' he said, 'listen to me.
14 Simão narrou como Deus começou a olhar para as nações pagãs para tirar delas um povo que trouxesse o seu nome.	14 Simeon has described how God first arranged to enlist a people for his name out of the gentiles.
15 Ora, com isto concordam as palavras dos profetas, como está escrito:	15 This is entirely in harmony with the words of the prophets, since the scriptures say:
16 Depois disto voltarei, e reedificarei o tabernáculo de Davi que caiu. E reedificarei as suas ruínas, e o levantarei	16 After that I shal return and rebuild the fal en hut of David; I shal make good the gaps in it and restoreit.
17 para que o resto dos homens busque o Senhor, e todas as nações, sobre as quais tem sido invocado o meu nome.	17 Then the rest of humanity, and of al the nations once cal ed mine, will look for the Lord, says the Lordwho made this
18 Assim fala o Senhor que faz estas coisas, coisas que ele conheceu desde a eternidade {Am 9,11s.}.	18 known so long ago.
19 Por isso, julgo que não se devem inquietar os que dentre os gentios se convertem a Deus.	19 'My verdict is, then, that instead of making things more difficult for gentiles who turn to God,
20 Mas que se lhes escreva somente que se abstenham das carnes oferecidas aos ídolos, da impureza, das carnes sufocadas e do sangue.	20 we should send them a letter tel ing them merely to abstain from anything polluted by idols, from il icitmarriages, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood.
21 Porque Moisés, desde muitas gerações, tem em cada cidade seus pregadores, pois que ele é lido nas sinagogas todos os sábados.	21 For Moses has always had his preachers in every town and is read aloud in the synagogues everySabbath.'
22 Então pareceu bem aos apóstolos e aos anciãos com toda a comunidade escolher homens dentre eles e enviá-los a Antioquia com Paulo e Barnabé: Judas, que tinha o sobrenome de Barsabás, e Silas, homens notáveis entre os irmãos.	22 Then the apostles and elders, with the whole church, decided to choose delegates from amongthemselves to send to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They chose Judas, known as Barsabbas, and Silas, bothleading men in the brotherhood,
23 Por seu intermédio enviaram a seguinte carta: "Os apóstolos e os anciãos aos irmãos de origem pagã, em Antioquia, na Síria e Cilícia, saúde!	23 and gave them this letter to take with them: 'The apostles and elders, your brothers, send greetings tothe brothers of gentile birth in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia.
24 Temos ouvido que alguns dentre nós vos têm perturbado com palavras, transtornando os vossos espíritos, sem lhes termos dado semelhante incumbência.	24 We hear that some people coming from here, but acting without any authority from ourselves, havedisturbed you with their demands and have unsettled your minds;
25 Assim nós nos reunimos e decidimos escolher delegados e enviá-los a vós, com os nossos amados Barnabé e Paulo,	25 and so we have decided unanimously to elect delegates and to send them to you with our wel -beloved Barnabas and Paul,
26 homens que têm exposto suas vidas pelo nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.	26 who have committed their lives to the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
27 Enviamos, portanto, Judas e Silas que de viva voz vos exporão as mesmas coisas.	27 Accordingly we are sending you Judas and Silas, who wil confirm by word of mouth what we havewritten.
28 Com efeito, pareceu bem ao Espírito Santo e a nós não vos impor outro peso além do seguinte indispensável:	28 It has been decided by the Holy Spirit and by ourselves not to impose on you any burden beyondthese essentials:
29 que vos abstenhais das carnes sacrificadas aos ídolos, do sangue, da carne sufocada e da impureza. Dessas coisas fareis bem de vos guardar conscienciosamente. Adeus!	29 you are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals andfrom illicit marriages. Avoid these, and you wil do what is right. Farewel .'
30 Tendo-se despedido, a delegação dirigiu-se a Antioquia. Ali reuniram a assembléia e entregaram a carta.	30 The party left and went down to Antioch, where they summoned the whole community and deliveredthe letter.
31 À sua leitura, todos se alegraram com o estímulo que ela trazia.	31 The community read it and were delighted with the encouragement it gave them.
32 Judas e Silas, que eram também profetas, dirigiam aos irmãos muitas palavras de exortação e de animação.	32 Judas and Silas, being themselves prophets, spoke for a long time, encouraging and strengtheningthe brothers.
33 Demoraram-se ali por algum tempo. Foram depois pelos irmãos despedidos em paz, voltando aos que lhos tinham enviado.	33 These two spent some time there, and then the brothers wished them peace andwent back to thosewho had sent them.
34 {A Silas contudo, pareceu bem ficar ali, e Judas partiu sozinho.}	34
35 Paulo e Barnabé detiveram-se também em Antioquia, ensinando e pregando com muitos outros a palavra do Senhor.	35 Paul and Barnabas, however, stayed on in Antioch, and there with many others they taught andproclaimed the good news, the word of the Lord.
36 Ao termo de alguns dias, disse Paulo a Barnabé: Tornemos a visitar os irmãos por todas as cidades onde temos pregado a palavra do Senhor, para ver como estão passando.	36 On a later occasion Paul said to Barnabas, 'Let us go back and visit the brothers in all the townswhere we preached the word of the Lord, so that we can see how they are doing.'
37 Barnabé queria levar consigo também João, que tinha por sobrenome Marcos.	37 Barnabas suggested taking John Mark,
38 Paulo, porém, achava que não devia ser admitido quem se tinha separado deles em Panfília e não os havia acompanhado no ministério.	38 but Paul was not in favour of taking along the man who had deserted them in Pamphylia and hadrefused to share in their work.
39 Houve tal discussão que se separaram um do outro, e Barnabé, levando consigo Marcos, navegou para Chipre.	39 There was sharp disagreement so that they parted company, and Barnabas sailed off with Mark toCyprus.
40 Paulo, porém, tendo escolhido Silas, e depois de ter sido recomendado pelos irmãos à graça do Senhor, partiu.	40 Before Paul left, he chose Silas to accompany him and was commended by the brothers to the graceof God.
41 Ele percorreu a Síria, a Cilícia, confirmando as comunidades.	41 He travel ed through Syria and Cilicia, consolidating the churches.
