Genesis 35

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Deus disse a Jacó: "Vamos, sobe a Betel e fica ali, e levanta um altar nesse lugar ao Deus que se manifestou a ti, quando fugias diante de teu irmão Esaú."	1 God said to Jacob, 'Move on, go to Bethel and settle there. Make an altar there for the God whoappeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.'
2 Jacó disse à sua família e à sua gente: "Tirai do meio de vós os deuses estrangeiros, purificai-vos e mudai vossos vestidos.	2 Jacob said to his family and to all who were with him, 'Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you;cleanse yourselves, and change your clothes.
3 Vamos subir a Betel, onde levantarei um altar ao Deus que me ouviu no dia de minha aflição, e que esteve comigo durante minha viagem."	3 We must move on and go to Bethel. There I shall make an altar for the God who heard me when I wasin distress, and gave me his help on the journey I made.'
4 Entregaram a Jacó todos os deuses estrangeiros que tinham, assim como os brincos que traziam nas orelhas, e Jacó enterrou-os debaixo de um terebinto, perto de Siquém.	4 They gave Jacob al the foreign gods in their possession, and the earrings that they were wearing.Jacob buried them under the oak tree near Shechem.
5 Partindo eles dali, Deus semeou o pânico nas cidades circunvizinhas, de sorte que não perseguiram os filhos de Jacó.	5 They broke camp; a divine terror struck the towns round about, and no one pursued the sons ofJacob.
6 Chegou, portanto, Jacó com toda a sua gente à Luz, na terra de Canaã, hoje Betel.	6 When Jacob arrived at Luz in Canaan -- that is, Bethel-and al the people with him,
7 Levantou aí um altar e deu a esse lugar o nome de El-Betel, porque foi aí que Deus lhe aparecera, quando fugia diante de seu irmão.	7 he built an altar there and named the place El-Bethel, since it was there that God had appeared to himwhen he was fleeing from his brother.
8 Foi então que morreu Débora, ama de Rebeca. E foi ali sepultada, ao pé de Betel, debaixo de um carvalho, ao qual se chamou carvalho dos Prantos.	8 Deborah, who had been Rebekah's nurse, died and was buried below Bethel, under the oak tree; sothey named it the Oak of Tears.
9 Quando Jacó voltou de Padã-Arã, Deus apareceu-lhe novamente e o abençoou.	9 God again appeared to Jacob on his return from Paddan-Aram, and blessed him.
10 "Teu nome, disse-lhe ele, é Jacó. Tu não te chamarás mais assim, mas Israel." E chamou-o Israel.	10 God said to him, 'Your name is Jacob, but from now on you wil be cal ed not Jacob but Israel.' Thushe came by the name Israel.
11 Deus disse-lhe: "Eu sou o Deus todo-poderoso. Sê fecundo e multiplica-te. De ti nascerão um povo e uma assembléia de povos; e de teus rins sairão reis.	11 God said to him, 'I am El Shaddai. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation, indeed an assembly of nations,wil descend from you, and kings will issue from your loins.
12 A terra que dei a Abraão e a Isaac, eu ta darei e à tua posteridade."	12 The country which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I now give to you; and this country I shal give toyour descendants after you.'
13 Depois, Deus retirou-se de junto dele.	13 Then God went up from him.
14 No mesmo lugar onde Deus lhe falou, Jacó erigiu uma estela sobre a qual fez uma libação, e derramou óleo.	14 Jacob raised a monument at the spot where he had spoken to him, a standing-stone, on which hemade a libation and poured oil.
15 E deu o nome de Betel ao lugar onde Deus lhe tinha falado.	15 Jacob named the place Bethel where God had spoken to him.
16 E partiram de Betel. Quando estavam a pouca distância de Efrata, Raquel deu à luz, e o seu parto foi penoso.	16 They left Bethel, and while they were stil some distance from Ephrath, Rachel went into labour, andher pains were severe.
17 Durante as dores do parto, a parteira disse-lhe: "Não temas, porque ainda terás este filho."	17 When her labour was at its hardest, the midwife said to her, 'Do not worry, this is going to be anotherboy.'
18 E, estando prestes a render a alma - porque estava já agonizante - ela chamou o filho Benoni; o seu pai, porém, chamou-o Benjamim.	18 At the moment when she breathed her last, for she was dying, she named him Ben-Oni. His father,however, named him Benjamin.
19 Raquel expirou e foi sepultada no caminho de Efrata, hoje Belém.	19 So Rachel died and was buried on the road to Ephrath, now Bethlehem.
20 Jacó erigiu uma estela sobre seu túmulo; é a estela do túmulo de Raquel, que ainda hoje existe.	20 Jacob raised a monument on her grave, that same monument of Rachel's Tomb which is theretoday.
21 Israel partiu e plantou sua tenda além de Migdal-Eder.	21 Israel left and pitched his tent beyond Migdal-Eder.
22 Foi durante sua estada nessa região que Rubem foi dormir com Bala, concubina de seu pai, e Israel soube.	22 While Israel was living in that district, Reuben went and slept with Bilhah his father's concubine, andIsrael found out. The sons of Jacob were now twelve.
23 Os filhos de Jacó foram em número de doze. Filhos de Lia: Rubem, primogênito de Jacó, Simeão, Levi, Judá, Issacar e Zabulon.	23 The sons of Leah: Jacob's eldest son Reuben, then Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun.
24 Filhos de Raquel: José e Benjamim.	24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
25 Filhos de Bala, escrava de Raquel: Dã e Neftali.	25 The sons of Bilhah, Rachel's slave-girl: Dan and Naphtali.
26 Filhos de Zelfa, escrava de Lia: Gad e Aser. Tais são os filhos nascidos a Jacó em Padã-Arã.	26 The sons of Zilpah, Leah's slave-girl: Gad and Asher. These were the sons born to Jacob in Paddan-Aram.
27 Jacó foi para junto de seu pai Isaac em Mambré, em Quiriat-Arbé, hoje Hebron, onde tinham habitado Abraão e Isaac.	27 Jacob came home to his father Isaac at Mamre, at Kiriath-Arba -- now Hebron -- where Abraham andIsaac had stayed.
28 E todos os dias da vida de Isaac foram cento e oitenta anos.	28 Isaac was one hundred and eighty years old
29 E morreu. A morte reuniu-o aos seus, velho e saciado de dias. Esaú e Jacó, seus filhos, sepultaram-no.	29 when he breathed his last. He died and was gathered to his people, an old man who had enjoyed hisful span of life. His sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
