Seconda lettera a Timoteo 2

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Tu, dunque, figlio mio, rafforzati nella grazia che è in Cristo Gesù,	1 As for you, my dear son, take strength from the grace which is in Christ Jesus.
2 e quelle cose che udisti da me davanti a molti testimoni, affidale a uomini sicuri, i quali siano capaci di ammaestrare anche altri.	2 Pass on to reliable people what you have heard from me through many witnesses so that they in turn wilbe able to teach others.
3 Soffri insieme con me da buon soldato di Cristo Gesù.	3 Bear with your share of difficulties, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4 Infatti nessuno che si dà a fare il soldato, si impiccia più degli affari della vita civile, per piacere a colui che lo ha arruolato.	4 No one on active service involves himself in the affairs of civilian life, because he must win the approvalof the man who enlisted him;
5 Alla stessa maniera, se uno fa l'atleta, non viene coronato se non a condizione che abbia combattuto secondo le regole.	5 or again someone who enters an athletic contest wins only by competing in the sports -- a prize can bewon only by competing according to the rules;
6 L'agricoltore, poi, che lavora duramente, bisogna che per primo riceva i frutti.	6 and again, it is the farmer who works hard that has the first claim on any crop that is harvested.
7 Poni mente a quanto ti dico; il Signore, infatti, ti darà intelligenza per ogni cosa.	7 Think over what I have said, and the Lord wil give you ful understanding.
8 Ricordati che Gesù Cristo, della stirpe di Davide, è risuscitato da morte secondo il mio vangelo.	8 Remember the gospel that I carry, 'Jesus Christ risen from the dead, sprung from the race of David';
9 Per esso io soffro travagli fino alle catene, come se fossi un malfattore: però la parola di Dio non è incatenata!	9 it is on account of this that I have to put up with suffering, even to being chained like a criminal. ButGod's message cannot be chained up.
10 Perciò io soffro tutte queste cose per gli eletti, affinché anch'essi ottengano la salvezza che è in Cristo Gesù, insieme alla gloria eterna.	10 So I persevere for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 E' degno di fede il detto: Se siamo morti insieme con lui, con lui anche vivremo.	11 Here is a saying that you can rely on: If we have died with him, then we shal live with him.
12 Se avremo pazienza, con lui anche regneremo; se poi lo rinnegheremo, anch'egli ci rinnegherà.	12 If we persevere, then we shal reign with him. If we disown him, then he wil disown us.
13 Se gli saremo infedeli, egli però rimane fedele, poiché non può rinnegare se stesso.	13 If we are faithless, he is faithful still, for he cannot disown his own self.
14 Richiama alla mente queste cose, scongiurando la gente davanti a Dio perché non faccia schermaglie di parole: cose di nessuna utilità, ma piuttosto di rovina per gli ascoltatori!	14 Remind them of this; and tell them in the name of God that there must be no wrangling about words: althat this ever achieves is the destruction of those who are listening.
15 Poni ogni diligenza nel presentarti davanti a Dio come un uomo ben provato, un operaio che non ha da arrossire e che dispensa rettamente la parola della verità.	15 Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who has no need to be ashamed,but who keeps the message of truth on a straight path.
16 Evita le profane vacuità di parole, giacché i loro autori fanno sempre maggiori progressi verso l'empietà,	16 Have nothing to do with godless philosophical discussions -- they only lead further and further awayfrom true religion.
17 e la loro parola, come una cancrena, estenderà il raggio della sua devastazione. Di questi tali sono Imeneo e Fileto,	17 Talk of this kind spreads corruption like gangrene, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18 i quali hanno deviato dalla verità dicendo che la risurrezione è già avvenuta e sconvolgono in tal modo la fede di certuni.	18 the men who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that the resurrection has already taken place.They are upsetting some people's faith.
19 Tuttavia il solido fondamento di Dio resiste saldamente, avendo questo sigillo: Dio conosce quelli che sono suoi, e ancora: Si allontani dall'iniquità chiunque invoca il nome del Signore.	19 However, God's solid foundation-stone stands firm, and this is the seal on it: 'The Lord knows thosewho are his own' and 'Al who cal on the name of the Lord must avoid evil.'
20 In una grande casa, però, non ci sono soltanto vasi d'oro e d'argento, ma anche vasi di legno e di coccio; alcuni poi sono destinati a usi nobili, altri a usi ignobili.	20 Not al the dishes in a large house are made of gold and silver; some are made of wood orearthenware: the former are held in honour, the latter held cheap.
21 Perciò se qualcuno si manterrà puro da costoro, sarà un vaso destinato a usi nobili, santificato, utile al padrone, adatto per ogni opera buona.	21 If someone holds himself aloof from these faults I speak of, he wil be a vessel held in honour,dedicated and fit for the Master, ready for any good work.
22 Cerca di fuggire le voglie giovanili; persegui la giustizia, la fede, l'amore, la pace con quelli che invocano il Signore di cuore puro.	22 Turn away from the passions of youth, concentrate on uprightness, faith, love and peace, in union withal those who cal on the Lord with a pure heart.
23 Evita, inoltre, le questioni sciocche e non educative, sapendo che generano contese,	23 Avoid these foolish and undisciplined speculations, understanding that they only give rise to quarrels;
24 mentre un servo del Signore non deve contendere, ma essere mansueto con tutti, capace di insegnare e tollerante.	24 and a servant of the Lord must not engage in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone, a good teacher,and patient.
25 Egli deve anche riprendere con dolcezza gli avversari, nella speranza che Dio conceda loro il pentimento per la perfetta conoscenza della verità	25 He must be gentle when he corrects people who oppose him, in the hope that God may give them achange of mind so that they recognise the truth
26 e si possano così ravvedere dal laccio di Satana, essendo stati da lui accalappiati per fare la sua volontà.	26 and come to their senses, escaping the trap of the devil who made them his captives and subjectedthem to his will.
