Esdra 5

LA SACRA BIBBIA	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Intanto i profeti Aggeo e Zaccaria, figlio di Iddo, profetarono ai Giudei in Giuda e a Gerusalemme nel nome del Dio d'Israele che era su di loro.	1 Now Aggeus the prophet, and Zacharias the son of Addo, prophesied to the Jews that were in Judea and Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel.
2 Si alzarono allora Zorobabele, figlio di Sealtiel, e Giosuè, figlio di Iozadak, e cominciarono a costruire il tempio di Dio a Gerusalemme; con essi erano i profeti di Dio, che li sostenevano.	2 Then rose up Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, and Josue the son of Josedec, and began to build the temple of God in Jerusalem, and with them were the prophets of God helping them.
3 Vennero in quel tempo da loro Tattènai, governatore dell'Oltrefiume, Setar Boznai e i loro colleghi e parlarono ad essi così: "Chi vi ha dato ordine di edificare questo tempio e costruire queste mura?	3 And at the same time came to them Thathanai, who was governor beyond the river, and Stharbuzanai, and their counsellors: and said thus to them: Who hath given you counsel to build this house, and to repair the walls thereof?
4 Chi sono e come si chiamano gli uomini che alzano questo edificio?".	4 In answer to which we gave them the names of the men who were the promoters of that building.
5 Ma sopra gli anziani dei Giudei era lo sguardo del loro Dio. Quelli non li fecero smettere fino a che non si fosse inviato un rapporto a Dario e si fosse avuta una risposta in merito.	5 But the eye of their God was upon the ancients of the Jews, and they could not hinder them. And it was agreed that the matter should be referred to Darius, and then they should give satisfaction concerning that accusation.
6 Copia della lettera che Tattènai, governatore dell'Oltrefiume, Setar Boznai e i loro colleghi, gli ispettori che sono nell'Oltrefiume, inviarono al re Dario.	6 The copy of the letter that Thathanai governor of the country beyond the river, and Stharbuzanai, and his counsellors the Arphasachites, who dwelt beyond the river, sent to Darius the king.
7 Gli inviarono un rapporto in cui era scritto: "Al re Dario salute perfetta!	7 The letter which they sent him, was written thus: To Darius the king all peace.
8 Sia noto al re che noi siamo andati nella provincia di Giuda, al tempio del grande Dio. Questo si sta edificando con blocchi di pietra e legname alle pareti. Il lavoro viene svolto con cura e procede bene tra le loro mani.	8 Be it known to the king, that we went to the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which they are building with unpolished stones, and timber is laid in the walls: and this work is carried on diligently, and advanceth in their hands.
9 Noi abbiamo interrogato quegli anziani e abbiamo domandato ad essi: "Chi vi ha dato ordine di edificare questo tempio e costruire queste mura?".	9 And we asked those ancients, and said to them thus: Who hath given you authority to build this house, and to repair these walls?
10 Abbiamo anche chiesto ad essi i loro nomi per farteli conoscere, scrivendo il nome degli uomini che sono loro a capo.	10 We asked also of them their names, that we might give thee notice: and we have written the names of the men that are the chief among them.
11 Ecco l'informazione che ci hanno dato: "Noi siamo i servi del Dio del cielo e della terra ed edifichiamo il tempio che nel passato era rimasto in piedi per lunghi anni. Un grande re d'Israele l'aveva alzato e adornato.	11 And they answered us in these words, saying: We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we are building a temple that was built these many years ago, and which a great king of Israel built and set up.
12 Ma da quando i nostri padri provocarono l'ira del Dio del cielo, egli li abbandonò in mano di Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, il caldeo. Egli distrusse questo tempio e deportò il popolo a Babilonia.	12 But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven to wrath, he delivered them into the hands of Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon the Chaldean: and he destroyed this house, and carried away the people to Babylon.
13 Però nel primo anno di Ciro, re di Babilonia, il re Ciro dette ordine di edificare questa casa di Dio.	13 But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon, king Cyrus set forth al decree, that this house of God should be built.
14 Anche gli utensili in oro e argento della casa di Dio, che Nabucodònosor aveva tolto dal tempio di Gerusalemme e portato al tempio di Babilonia, il re Ciro fece togliere dal tempio di Babilonia e consegnare a uno di nome Sesbassar, che aveva costituito governatore,	14 And the vessels also of gold and silver of the temple of God, which Nabuchodonosor had taken out of the temple, that was in Jerusalem, and had brought them to the temple of Babylon, king Cyrus brought out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered to one Sassabasar, whom also he appointed governor,
15 dicendogli: `Prendi questi utensili, va', portali al tempio di Gerusalemme. E il tempio di Dio venga riedificato nel suo luogo'.	15 And said to him: Take these vessels, and go, and put them in the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be built in its place.
16 Allora questo Sesbassar venne e pose le fondamenta della casa di Dio a Gerusalemme. Ebbene, da allora sino ad oggi essa si va costruendo, ma non è ancora terminata".	16 Then came this same Sassabasar, and laid the foundations of the temple of God in Jerusalem, and from that time until now it is in building, and is not yet finished.
17 Pertanto, se così piace al re, si facciano ricerche nell'archivio reale a Babilonia, se per caso sia stato dato un ordine, da parte del re Ciro, perché fosse costruita questa casa di Dio a Gerusalemme. E la volontà del re in proposito la si faccia pervenire a noi".	17 Now therefore if it seem good to the king, let him search in the king's library, which is in Babylon, whether it hath been decreed by Cyrus the king, that the house of God in Jerusalem should be built, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.
