2 Abramo fu il padre di Isacco; Isacco, di Giacobbe; Giacobbe, di Giuda e dei suoi fratelli;	2 Abraham begot Isaac. And Isaac begot Jacob. And Jacob begot Judas and his brethren.
3 Giuda ebbe, da Tamar, Fares e Zara; Fares fu il padre di Esron; Esron, di Aram;	3 And Judas begot Phares and Zara of Thamar. And Phares begot Esron. And Esron begot Aram.
4 Aram, di Aminadab; Aminadab, di Naasson; Naasson, di Salmon;	4 And Aram begot Aminadab. And Aminadab begot Naasson. And Naasson begot Salmon.

12 Dopo la deportazione in Babilonia, Jeconia fu il padre di Salatiel; Salatiel, di Zorobabele;	12 And after the transmigration of Babylon, Jechonias begot Salathiel. And Salathiel begot Zorobabel.
13 Zorobabele, di Abiud; Abiud di Eliacim; Eliacim, di Azor;	13 And Zorobabel begot Abiud. And Abiud begot Eliacim. And Eliacim begot Azor.
14 Azor, di Sadoc; Sadoc, di Achim; Achim, di Eliud;	14 And Azor begot Sadoc. And Sadoc begot Achim. And Achim begot Eliud.

16 Giacobbe, di Giuseppe, lo sposo di Maria, dalla quale è nato Gesù, chiamato Cristo.	16 And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
17 Si hanno, dunque, in tutto quattordici generazioni da Abramo a David; quattordici da David alla deportazione in Babilonia, e quattordici dalla deportazione in Babilonia a Cristo.	17 So all the generations, from Abraham to David, are fourteen generations. And from David to the transmigration of Babylon, are fourteen generations: and from the transmigration of Babylon to Christ are fourteen generations.
18 La nascita di Cristo avvenne in questo modo. Essendo Maria, sua madre, fidanzata a Giuseppe, prima che fossero venuti ad abitare insieme, si trovò che ella aveva concepito per virtù dello Spirito Santo.	18 Now the generation of Christ was in this wise. When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child, of the Holy Ghost.
19 Giuseppe, suo sposo, che era uomo giusto e non la voleva esporre all'infamia, decise di lasciarla segretamente.	19 Whereupon Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing publicly to expose her, was minded to put her away privately.
20 Mentre egli stava ripensando a queste cose, gli apparve in sogno un angelo del Signore, che gli disse: «Giuseppe, figlio di David, non aver timore a prenderti in moglie Maria, perchè quel che è nato in lei è opera dello Spirito Santo.	20 But while he thought on these things, behold the angel of the Lord appeared to him in his sleep, saying: Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her, is of the Holy Ghost.
21 Ella darà alla luce un figlio, che tu chiamerai Gesù, poichè salverà il suo popolo dai loro peccati».	21 And she shall bring forth a son: and thou shalt call his name JESUS. For he shall save his people from their sins.
22 Tutto ciò avvenne affinchè si adempisse quanto aveva detto il Signore a mezzo del profeta:	22 Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which the Lord spoke by the prophet, saying:
23 «Ecco, la Vergine concepirà e darà alla luce un figlio, che sarà chiamato Emmanuele», il che vuol dire: «Dio con noi».	23 Behold a virgin shall be with child, and bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
24 Svegliatosi dal sonno, Giuseppe fece come gli aveva comandato l'angelo del Signore e, presa con sè la sua sposa,	24 And Joseph rising up from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and took unto him his wife.
25 non la conobbe finchè ella diede alla luce il figlio suo primogenito, a cui pose nome Gesù.	25 And he knew her not till she brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
