John 14

1 “Do not let your heart be troubled. You believe in God. Believe in me also.	1 Non sia turbato il vostro cuore. Abbiate fede in Dio e abbiate fede anche in me.
2 In my Father’s house, there are many dwelling places. If there were not, I would have told you. For I go to prepare a place for you.	2 Nella casa del Padre mio vi sono molte dimore. Se no, vi avrei mai detto: “Vado a prepararvi un posto”?
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will return again, and then I will take you to myself, so that where I am, you also may be.	3 Quando sarò andato e vi avrò preparato un posto, verrò di nuovo e vi prenderò con me, perché dove sono io siate anche voi.
4 And you know where I am going. And you know the way.”	4 E del luogo dove io vado, conoscete la via».
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”	5 Gli disse Tommaso: «Signore, non sappiamo dove vai; come possiamo conoscere la via?».
6 Jesus said to him: “I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.	6 Gli disse Gesù: «Io sono la via, la verità e la vita. Nessuno viene al Padre se non per mezzo di me.
7 If you had known me, certainly you would also have known my Father. And from now on, you shall know him, and you have seen him.”	7 Se avete conosciuto me, conoscerete anche il Padre mio: fin da ora lo conoscete e lo avete veduto».
8 Philip said to him, “Lord, reveal the Father to us, and it is enough for us.”	8 Gli disse Filippo: «Signore, mostraci il Padre e ci basta».
9 Jesus said to him: “Have I been with you for so long, and you have not known me? Philip, whoever sees me, also sees the Father. How can you say, ‘Reveal the Father to us?’	9 Gli rispose Gesù: «Da tanto tempo sono con voi e tu non mi hai conosciuto, Filippo? Chi ha visto me, ha visto il Padre. Come puoi tu dire: “Mostraci il Padre”?
10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I am speaking to you, I do not speak from myself. But the Father abiding in me, he does these works.	10 Non credi che io sono nel Padre e il Padre è in me? Le parole che io vi dico, non le dico da me stesso; ma il Padre, che rimane in me, compie le sue opere.
11 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?	11 Credete a me: io sono nel Padre e il Padre è in me. Se non altro, credetelo per le opere stesse.
12 Or else, believe because of these same works. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me shall also do the works that I do. And greater things than these shall he do, for I go to the Father.	12 In verità, in verità io vi dico: chi crede in me, anch’egli compirà le opere che io compio e ne compirà di più grandi di queste, perché io vado al Padre.
13 And whatever you shall ask the Father in my name, that I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.	13 E qualunque cosa chiederete nel mio nome, la farò, perché il Padre sia glorificato nel Figlio.
14 If you shall ask anything of me in my name, that I will do.	14 Se mi chiederete qualche cosa nel mio nome, io la farò.
15 If you love me, keep my commandments.	15 Se mi amate, osserverete i miei comandamenti;
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give another Advocate to you, so that he may abide with you for eternity:	16 e io pregherò il Padre ed egli vi darà un altro Paràclito perché rimanga con voi per sempre,
17 the Spirit of Truth, whom the world is not able to accept, because it neither perceives him nor knows him. But you shall know him. For he will remain with you, and he will be in you.	17 lo Spirito della verità, che il mondo non può ricevere perché non lo vede e non lo conosce. Voi lo conoscete perché egli rimane presso di voi e sarà in voi.
18 I will not leave you orphans. I will return to you.	18 Non vi lascerò orfani: verrò da voi.
19 Yet a little while and the world will not see me any longer. But you will see me. For I live, and you shall live.	19 Ancora un poco e il mondo non mi vedrà più; voi invece mi vedrete, perché io vivo e voi vivrete.
20 In that day, you shall know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.	20 In quel giorno voi saprete che io sono nel Padre mio e voi in me e io in voi.
21 Whoever holds to my commandments and keeps them: it is he who loves me. And whoever loves me shall be loved by my Father. And I will love him, and I will manifest myself to him.”	21 Chi accoglie i miei comandamenti e li osserva, questi è colui che mi ama. Chi ama me sarà amato dal Padre mio e anch’io lo amerò e mi manifesterò a lui».
22 Judas, not the Iscariot, said to him: “Lord, how does it happen that you will manifest yourself to us and not to the world?”	22 Gli disse Giuda, non l’Iscariota: «Signore, come è accaduto che devi manifestarti a noi, e non al mondo?».
23 Jesus responded and said to him: “If anyone loves me, he shall keep my word. And my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and we will make our dwelling place with him.	23 Gli rispose Gesù: «Se uno mi ama, osserverà la mia parola e il Padre mio lo amerà e noi verremo a lui e prenderemo dimora presso di lui.
24 Whoever does not love me, does not keep not my words. And the word that you have heard is not of me, but it is of the Father who sent me.	24 Chi non mi ama, non osserva le mie parole; e la parola che voi ascoltate non è mia, ma del Padre che mi ha mandato.
25 These things I have spoken to you, while abiding with you.	25 Vi ho detto queste cose mentre sono ancora presso di voi.
26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will suggest to you everything whatsoever that I have said to you.	26 Ma il Paràclito, lo Spirito Santo che il Padre manderà nel mio nome, lui vi insegnerà ogni cosa e vi ricorderà tutto ciò che io vi ho detto.
27 Peace I leave for you; my Peace I give to you. Not in the way that the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, and let it not fear.	27 Vi lascio la pace, vi do la mia pace. Non come la dà il mondo, io la do a voi. Non sia turbato il vostro cuore e non abbia timore.
28 You have heard that I said to you: I am going away, and I am returning to you. If you loved me, certainly you would be gladdened, because I am going to the Father. For the Father is greater than I.	28 Avete udito che vi ho detto: “Vado e tornerò da voi”. Se mi amaste, vi rallegrereste che io vado al Padre, perché il Padre è più grande di me.
29 And now I have told you this, before it happens, so that, when it will happen, you may believe.	29 Ve l’ho detto ora, prima che avvenga, perché, quando avverrà, voi crediate.
30 I will not now speak at length with you. For the prince of this world is coming, but he does not have anything in me.	30 Non parlerò più a lungo con voi, perché viene il principe del mondo; contro di me non può nulla,
31 Yet this is so that the world may know that I love the Father, and that I am acting according to the commandment that the Father has given to me. Rise up, let us go from here.”	31 ma bisogna che il mondo sappia che io amo il Padre, e come il Padre mi ha comandato, così io agisco. Alzatevi, andiamo via di qui».
