John 14

1 “Do not let your heart be troubled. You believe in God. Believe in me also.	1 “Que votre cœur ne se trouble pas: croyez en Dieu et croyez aussi en moi.
2 In my Father’s house, there are many dwelling places. If there were not, I would have told you. For I go to prepare a place for you.	2 Dans la maison de mon Père il y a beaucoup de demeures. Sinon, je ne vous aurais pas dit que je m’en vais pour vous préparer une place.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will return again, and then I will take you to myself, so that where I am, you also may be.	3 Quand je serai allé et que je vous aurai préparé une place, je reviendrai et je vous prendrai près de moi, de sorte que vous soyez aussi là où je suis.
4 And you know where I am going. And you know the way.”	4 Et vous savez le chemin pour aller où je vais.”
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”	5 Thomas lui dit alors: "Seigneur, nous ne savons pas où tu vas, comment pouvons-nous en savoir le chemin?”
6 Jesus said to him: “I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.	6 Jésus lui dit: "Je suis le chemin, la vérité et la vie. Personne ne vient au Père sans passer par moi.
7 If you had known me, certainly you would also have known my Father. And from now on, you shall know him, and you have seen him.”	7 Si vous me connaissez, vous connaîtrez aussi mon Père. D’ailleurs, dès maintenant vous le connaissez et vous l’avez vu.”
8 Philip said to him, “Lord, reveal the Father to us, and it is enough for us.”	8 Philippe lui dit: "Seigneur, montre-nous le Père et cela nous suffit.”
9 Jesus said to him: “Have I been with you for so long, and you have not known me? Philip, whoever sees me, also sees the Father. How can you say, ‘Reveal the Father to us?’	9 Jésus lui dit: "Philippe, j’ai été si longtemps avec vous et tu ne me connais pas encore? Celui qui m’a vu, a vu le Père. Comment peux-tu dire: Montre-nous le Père?
10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I am speaking to you, I do not speak from myself. But the Father abiding in me, he does these works.	10 Ne crois-tu pas que je suis dans le Père, et que le Père est en moi? Tout l’enseignement que je vous ai donné ne vient pas de moi, mais le Père demeure en moi pour accomplir ses propres œuvres.
11 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?	11 “Je suis dans le Père et le Père est en moi; faites-moi confiance en cela, ou sinon, croyez-le à cause de ces œuvres.
12 Or else, believe because of these same works. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me shall also do the works that I do. And greater things than these shall he do, for I go to the Father.	12 “En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis: si quelqu’un croit en moi, il fera lui aussi les œuvres que je fais, et comme je retourne vers le Père, il en fera de plus grandes encore.
13 And whatever you shall ask the Father in my name, that I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.	13 Tout ce que vous demanderez confiants en mon Nom, je le ferai, pour que le Père soit glorifié à travers le Fils.
14 If you shall ask anything of me in my name, that I will do.	14 Et de même je ferai ce que vous me demanderez à moi, confiants en mon Nom.
15 If you love me, keep my commandments.	15 “Si vous m’aimez, vous garderez mes commandements.
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give another Advocate to you, so that he may abide with you for eternity:	16 Moi, de mon côté, je demanderai au Père de vous donner un autre Protecteur qui sera pour toujours avec vous.
17 the Spirit of Truth, whom the world is not able to accept, because it neither perceives him nor knows him. But you shall know him. For he will remain with you, and he will be in you.	17 C’est l’Esprit de Vérité que le monde ne peut recevoir, car il ne le voit pas et ne le connaît pas. Mais vous, vous le connaissez, puisqu’il est avec vous et demeure en vous.
18 I will not leave you orphans. I will return to you.	18 “Je ne vous laisserai pas comme des orphelins, puisque je reviens vers vous.
19 Yet a little while and the world will not see me any longer. But you will see me. For I live, and you shall live.	19 Encore un peu de temps et le monde ne me verra plus, mais vous, vous me verrez, puisque je suis vivant et que vous aussi vous vivrez.
20 In that day, you shall know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.	20 Ce jour-là vous saurez que je suis dans mon Père, et vous en moi, et moi en vous.
21 Whoever holds to my commandments and keeps them: it is he who loves me. And whoever loves me shall be loved by my Father. And I will love him, and I will manifest myself to him.”	21 Celui qui a reçu mes commandements et qui les garde, voilà celui qui m’aime; et celui qui m’aime sera aimé de mon Père. Moi aussi je l’aimerai et je me manifesterai à lui.”
22 Judas, not the Iscariot, said to him: “Lord, how does it happen that you will manifest yourself to us and not to the world?”	22 À ce moment-là Jude (non pas Judas Iscariote) dit à Jésus: "Mais comment cela? Veux-tu te manifester à nous et pas au monde?”
23 Jesus responded and said to him: “If anyone loves me, he shall keep my word. And my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and we will make our dwelling place with him.	23 Jésus lui répondit: "Si quelqu’un m’aime, il gardera ma parole et mon Père l’aimera. Alors nous viendrons à lui et nous nous ferons chez lui une demeure.
24 Whoever does not love me, does not keep not my words. And the word that you have heard is not of me, but it is of the Father who sent me.	24 Celui qui ne m’aime pas ne garde pas mes paroles, mais ce discours que vous écoutez n’est pas de moi, il vient du Père qui m’a envoyé.
25 These things I have spoken to you, while abiding with you.	25 “Je vous ai dit tout cela pendant que j’étais avec vous.
26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will suggest to you everything whatsoever that I have said to you.	26 Mais le Protecteur, l’Esprit Saint que le Père vous enverra grâce à mon Nom, se chargera de vous enseigner toutes choses: il vous rappellera tout ce que je vous ai dit.
27 Peace I leave for you; my Peace I give to you. Not in the way that the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, and let it not fear.	27 Je vous laisse la paix, je vous donne ma paix. Je ne vous la donne pas comme le monde la donne. Ne restez pas dans le trouble et dans la crainte.
28 You have heard that I said to you: I am going away, and I am returning to you. If you loved me, certainly you would be gladdened, because I am going to the Father. For the Father is greater than I.	28 “Vous avez appris ce que je vous ai dit, que je m’en vais et je reviens vers vous. Si vous m’aimiez, vous vous réjouiriez de ce que je vais vers le Père, car le Père est plus grand que moi.
29 And now I have told you this, before it happens, so that, when it will happen, you may believe.	29 Et maintenant je vous l’ai dit avant que cela n’arrive, pour que, quand cela arrivera, vous croyiez.
30 I will not now speak at length with you. For the prince of this world is coming, but he does not have anything in me.	30 “Je ne vous parlerai plus beaucoup désormais: déjà s’approche le Prince de ce monde, mais en moi il n’y a rien qui soit à lui.
31 Yet this is so that the world may know that I love the Father, and that I am acting according to the commandment that the Father has given to me. Rise up, let us go from here.”	31 Tout au contraire, et le monde doit le savoir, j’aime le Père et je fais comme le Père me l’a ordonné. Levez-vous, sortons d’ici.
