Deuteronomy 14

1 “Be sons of the Lord your God. You shall not cut yourselves, nor make yourselves bald, because of the dead.	1 Vous êtes des fils pour Yahvé votre Dieu. Vous ne vous ferez pas d’incisions ni de tonsures sur le front pour un mort.
2 For you are a holy people, for the Lord your God. And he chose you, so that you may be a people particularly his, out of all the nations on earth.	2 Tu es un peuple saint pour Yahvé ton Dieu, il t’a choisi pour que tu sois son peuple au milieu de tous les peuples de la terre.
3 You shall not eat the things that are unclean.	3 Tu ne mangeras rien d’abominable.
4 These are the animals which you ought to eat: the ox, and the sheep, and the goat,	4 Voici les animaux que vous pourrez manger: le bœuf, le mouton, la chèvre,
5 the stag and the roe deer, the gazelle, the wild goat, the addax, the antelope, the giraffe.	5 le cerf, la gazelle, le daim, la chèvre de Nubie, l’antilope, le bœuf sauvage et la chèvre sauvage.
6 Every beast which has a hoof divided into two parts and which also chews the cud, you shall eat.	6 Vous mangerez de tout animal qui a le sabot divisé, le pied fourchu, et qui rumine;
7 But those which chew over again, but do not have a divided hoof, you must not eat, such as the camel, the hare, and the hyrax. Since these chew the cud, but do not have a divided the hoof, they shall be unclean to you.	7 mais vous ne mangerez pas ceux qui ruminent seulement ou qui ont seulement le sabot divisé, le pied fourchu. Ainsi vous ne mangerez pas le chameau, le lièvre et le lapin qui ruminent mais qui n’ont pas le sabot divisé. Ils seront impurs à vos yeux.
8 The pig also, since it has a divided hoof, but does not chew over again, shall be unclean. Their flesh shall not be eaten, and you shall not touch their carcasses.	8 C’est encore le cas pour le porc qui a le sabot divisé mais qui ne rumine pas: il sera impur à vos yeux. Vous ne mangerez pas de leur chair et vous ne toucherez pas leur cadavre.
9 These you shall eat out of all that dwells in the waters: whatever has fins and scales, you shall eat.	9 Parmi tous les êtres qui vivent dans l’eau, vous pourrez manger ceux qui ont nageoires et écailles.
10 Whatever is without fins and scales, you shall not eat, for these are unclean.	10 Mais vous ne mangerez pas de ceux qui n’ont ni nageoires ni écailles: ils seront impurs à vos yeux.
11 All the clean birds, you shall eat.	11 Vous pourrez manger tous les oiseaux purs.
12 You shall not eat those that are unclean: such as the eagle, and the griffin, and the osprey,	12 Voici ceux que vous ne mangerez pas: l’aigle, la buse et le vautour,
13 the crane, and the vulture, and the kite, according to their kind,	13 le faucon, le milan et toute espèce de rapaces,
14 and any kind of raven,	14 toute espèce de corbeaux,
15 and the ostrich, and the owl, and the gull, and the hawk, according to their kind,	15 l’autruche, le hibou, la mouette et toute espèce d’éperviers,
16 the heron, and the swan, and the ibis,	16 le chat-huant, l’ibis et la chouette,
17 and the sea bird, the marsh hen, and the night raven,	17 le pélican, le cygne et le cormoran,
18 the pelican and the plover, each in their kind, likewise the crested hoopoe and the bat.	18 la cigogne, le héron de toute espèce, la huppe et la chauve-souris.
19 And anything which crawls and also has little wings shall be unclean, and shall not be eaten.	19 Tous les insectes ailés seront impurs à vos yeux,
20 All that is clean, you shall eat.	20 mais de tout oiseau pur vous pourrez manger.
21 But whatever has died of itself, you shall not eat from it. Give it to the sojourner, who is within your gates, so that he may eat, or sell it to him. For you are the holy people of the Lord your God. You shall not boil a young goat in the milk of his mother.	21 Tu ne mangeras d’aucune bête morte, mais tu pourras la donner à l’étranger qui habite au milieu de toi: il la mangera ou la vendra à un autre étranger. Mais toi, tu es un peuple saint pour Yahvé ton Dieu. Tu ne feras pas cuire un chevreau dans le lait de sa mère.
22 Each year, you shall separate the tithes out of all your crops which spring forth from the earth.	22 Tu prélèveras chaque année la dîme sur le produit de ce que tu auras semé, sur le produit de tes champs.
23 And you shall eat these in the sight of the Lord your God, in the place which he will choose, so that his name may be invoked there: the tenth part of your grain and wine and oil, and the firstborn from the herds and your sheep. So may you learn to fear the Lord your God at all times.	23 Tu mangeras devant Yahvé ton Dieu, dans le lieu qu’il aura choisi pour y faire habiter son Nom, la dîme de ton blé, de ton vin et de ton huile, ainsi que les premiers-nés de la vache et de la brebis. Ainsi tu apprendras à garder toujours la crainte de Yahvé, ton Dieu.
24 But when the way and the place which the Lord your God will have chosen is further away, and he will have blessed you, so that you are not able to carry all these things to it,	24 Cependant, lorsque Yahvé ton Dieu t’aura béni, si le lieu qu’il a choisi pour y faire habiter son Nom est trop éloigné et que le chemin est trop long pour toi,
25 you shall sell them all, so as to turn them into money, and you shall carry it in your hand, and you shall set out for the place which the Lord will choose.	25 tu échangeras ta dîme contre de l’argent, tu prendras l’argent sur toi et tu te rendras au lieu que Yahvé ton Dieu aura choisi.
26 And you shall buy with the same money whatever pleases you, either from the herds or from the sheep, and also wine and liquor, and all that your soul desires. And you shall eat in the sight of the Lord your God, and you shall feast: you and your household.	26 Là, avec ton argent, tu achèteras tout ce que tu voudras: des bœufs, des brebis, du vin, des liqueurs fermentées, en un mot, tout ce que tu voudras, et tu le mangeras là devant Yahvé ton Dieu. Tu feras la fête, toi et ta famille,
27 As for the Levite, who is within your gates, take care that you do not abandon him, for he has no other portion within your possession.	27 sans oublier le Lévite qui habite au milieu de toi, car il n’a ni part ni héritage avec toi.
28 In the third year, you shall separate another tenth part of all the things which spring forth for you at that time, and you shall store it within your gates.	28 Tous les trois ans, tu mettras de côté, toute la dîme de tes récoltes de l’année et tu la garderas dans ta cité.
29 And the Levite, who has no other portion or possession with you, and the sojourner as well as the orphan and the widow who are within your gates, shall approach and eat and be satisfied, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the works of your hands which you shall do.”	29 Alors le Lévite qui n’a ni part ni héritage avec toi, l’étranger, l’orphelin et la veuve qui habitent au milieu de toi viendront, ils mangeront et seront comblés. Ainsi Yahvé ton Dieu te bénira dans tout ce que tu entreprendras.
