1 And immediately in the morning, after the leaders of the priests had taken counsel with the elders and the scribes and the entire council, binding Jesus, they led him away and delivered him to Pilate.	1 E SUBITO la mattina, i principali sacerdoti, con gli anziani, e gli Scribi, e tutto il concistoro, tenuto consiglio, legarono Gesù, e lo menarono, e lo misero in man di Pilato.
2 And Pilate questioned him, “You are the king of the Jews?” But in response, he said to him, “You are saying it.”	2 E Pilato gli domandò: Sei tu il Re de’ Giudei? Ed egli, rispondendo, gli disse: Tu lo dici.
3 And the leaders of the priests accused him in many things.	3 E i principali sacerdoti l’accusavano di molte cose; ma egli non rispondeva nulla.
4 Then Pilate again questioned him, saying: “Do you not have any response? See how greatly they accuse you.”	4 E Pilato da capo lo domandò, dicendo: Non rispondi tu nulla? vedi quante cose costoro testimoniano contro a te.
5 But Jesus continued to give no response, so that Pilate wondered.	5 Ma Gesù non rispose nulla di più, talchè Pilato se ne maravigliava.
6 Now on the feast day, he was accustomed to release to them one of the prisoners, whomever they requested.	6 Or ogni festa egli liberava loro un prigione, qualunque chiedessero.
7 But there was one called Barabbas, who had committed murder in the sedition, who was confined with those of the sedition.	7 Or vi era colui, ch’era chiamato Barabba, ch’era prigione co’ suoi compagni di sedizione, i quali avean fatto omicidio nella sedizione.
8 And when the crowd had ascended, they began to petition him to do as he always did for them.	8 E la moltitudine, gridando, cominciò a domandare che facesse come sempre avea lor fatto.
9 But Pilate answered them and said, “Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?”	9 E Pilato rispose loro, dicendo: Volete che io vi liberi il Re de’ Giudei?
10 For he knew that it was out of envy that the leaders of the priests had betrayed him.	10 Perciocchè riconosceva bene che i principali sacerdoti glielo aveano messo nelle mani per invidia.
11 Then the chief priests incited the crowd, so that he would release Barabbas to them instead.	11 Ma i principali sacerdoti incitarono la moltitudine a chieder che più tosto liberasse loro Barabba.
12 But Pilate, responding again, said to them: “Then what do you want me to do with the king of the Jews?”	12 E Pilato, rispondendo, da capo disse loro: Che volete adunque che io faccia di colui che voi chiamate Re de’ Giudei?
13 But again they cried out, “Crucify him.”	13 Ed essi di nuovo gridarono: Crocifiggilo.
14 Yet truly, Pilate said to them: “Why? What evil has he done?” But they cried out all the more, “Crucify him.”	14 E Pilato disse loro: Ma pure, che male ha egli fatto? Ed essi vie più gridavano: Crocifiggilo
15 Then Pilate, wishing to satisfy the people, released Barabbas to them, and he delivered Jesus, having severely scourged him, to be crucified.	15 Pilato adunque, volendo soddisfare alla moltitudine, liberò loro Barabba. E dopo aver flagellato Gesù, lo diede loro in mano, per esser crocifisso.
16 Then the soldiers led him away to the court of the praetorium. And they called together the entire cohort.	16 Allora i soldati lo menarono dentro alla corte, che è il Pretorio, e raunarono tutta la schiera.
17 And they clothed him with purple. And platting a crown of thorns, they placed it on him.	17 E lo vestirono di porpora; e contesta una corona di spine, gliela misero intorno al capo.
18 And they began to salute him: “Hail, king of the Jews.”	18 Poi presero a salutarlo, e a dire: Ben ti sia, Re de’ Giudei.
19 And they struck his head with a reed, and they spit on him. And kneeling down, they reverenced him.	19 E gli percotevano il capo con una canna, e gli sputavano addosso; e postisi inginocchioni, l’adoravano.
20 And after they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple, and they clothed him in his own garments. And they led him away, so that they might crucify him.	20 E dopo che l’ebbero schernito, lo spogliarono della porpora, e lo rivestirono de’ suoi propri vestimenti, e lo menarono fuori, per crocifiggerlo.
21 And they compelled a certain passerby, Simon the Cyrenian, who was arriving from the countryside, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to take up his cross.	21 ED angariarono a portar la croce di esso, un certo passante, detto Simon Cireneo, padre di Alessandro e di Rufo, il qual tornava da’ campi
22 And they led him through to the place called Golgotha, which means, ‘the Place of Calvary.’	22 E menarono Gesù al luogo detto Golgota; il che, interpretato, vuol dire: Il luogo del teschio.
23 And they gave him wine with myrrh to drink. But he did not accept it.	23 E gli dieder da bere del vino condito con mirra; ma egli non lo prese.
24 And while crucifying him, they divided his garments, casting lots over them, to see who would take what.	24 E dopo averlo crocifisso, spartirono i suoi vestimenti, tirando la sorte sopra essi, per saper ciò che ne torrebbe ciascuno.
25 Now it was the third hour. And they crucified him.	25 Or era l’ora di terza, quando lo crocifissero.
26 And the title of his case was written as: THE KING OF THE JEWS.	26 E la soprascritta del maleficio che gli era apposto era scritta di sopra a lui, in questa maniera: IL RE DE’ GIUDEI.
27 And with him they crucified two robbers: one at his right, and the other at his left.	27 Crocifissero ancora con lui due ladroni, l’un dalla sua destra, e l’altro dalla sinistra.
28 And the scripture was fulfilled, which says: “And with the iniquitous he was reputed.”	28 E si adempiè la scrittura che dice: Ed egli è stato annoverato fra i malfattori.
29 And the passersby blasphemed him, shaking their heads and saying, “Ah, you who would destroy the temple of God, and in three days rebuild it,	29 E coloro che passavano ivi presso l’ingiuriavano, scotendo il capo, e dicendo: Eia! tu che disfai il tempio, ed in tre giorni lo riedifichi,
30 save yourself by descending from the cross.”	30 salva te stesso, e scendi giù di croce.
31 And similarly the leaders of the priests, mocking him with the scribes, said to one another: “He saved others. He is not able to save himself.	31 Simigliantemente ancora i principali sacerdoti, con gli Scribi, beffandosi, dicevano l’uno all’altro: Egli ha salvati gli altri, e non può salvar sè stesso.
32 Let the Christ, the king of Israel, descend now from the cross, so that we may see and believe.” Those who were crucified with him also insulted him.	32 Scenda ora giù di croce il Cristo, il Re d’Israele; acciocchè noi lo vediamo, e crediamo. Coloro ancora ch’erano stati crocifissi con lui l’ingiuriavano
33 And when the sixth hour arrived, a darkness occurred over the entire earth, until the ninth hour.	33 Poi, venuta l’ora sesta, si fecero tenebre per tutta la terra, infino all’ora di nona.
34 And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lamma sabacthani?” which means, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?”	34 Ed all’ora di nona, Gesù gridò con gran voce, dicendo: Eloi, Eloi, lamma sabactani? il che, interpretato, vuol dire: Dio mio, Dio mio, perchè mi hai abbandonato?
35 And some of those standing near, upon hearing this, said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.”	35 Ed alcuni di coloro ch’eran quivi presenti, udito ciò, dicevano: Ecco, egli chiama Elia.
36 Then one of them, running and filling a sponge with vinegar, and placing it around a reed, gave it to him to drink, saying: “Wait. Let us see if Elijah will come to take him down.”	36 E un di loro corse; ed empiuta una spugna d’aceto, e postala intorno ad una canna, gli diè da bere, dicendo: Lasciate; vediamo se Elia verrà, per trarlo giù.
37 Then Jesus, having emitted a loud cry, expired.	37 E Gesù, gettato un gran grido, rendè lo spirito.
38 And the veil of the temple was torn in two, from the top to the bottom.	38 E la cortina del tempio si fendè in due, da cima a fondo.
39 Then the centurion who stood opposite him, seeing that he had expired while crying out in this way, said: “Truly, this man was the Son of God.”	39 E il centurione, ch’era quivi presente di rincontro a Gesù, veduto che dopo aver così gridato, egli avea reso lo spirito, disse: Veramente quest’uomo era Figliuol di Dio.
40 Now there were also women watching from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph, and Salome,	40 Or quivi erano ancora delle donne, riguardando da lontano; fra le quali era Maria Maddalena, e Maria madre di Giacomo il piccolo, e di Iose, e Salome;
41 (and while he was in Galilee, they followed him and ministered to him) and many other women, who had ascended along with him to Jerusalem.	41 le quali, eziandio mentre egli era nella Galilea, l’aveano seguitato, e gli aveano ministrato; e molte altre, le quali erano salite con lui in Gerusalemme
42 And when evening had now arrived (because it was the Preparation Day, which is before the Sabbath)	42 POI, essendo già sera perciocchè era la preparazione, cioè l’antisabato,
43 there arrived Joseph of Arimathea, a noble council member, who himself was also awaiting the kingdom of God. And he boldly entered to Pilate and petitioned for the body of Jesus.	43 Giuseppe, da Arimatea, consigliere onorato, il quale eziandio aspettava il regno di Dio, venne, e, preso ardire, entrò da Pilato, e domandò il corpo di Gesù.
44 But Pilate wondered if he had already died. And summoning a centurion, he questioned him as to whether he was already dead.	44 E Pilato si maravigliò ch’egli fosse già morto. E chiamato a sè il centurione, gli domandò se era gran tempo ch’egli era morto;
45 And when he had been informed by the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.	45 e, saputo il fatto dal centurione, donò il corpo a Giuseppe.
46 Then Joseph, having bought a fine linen cloth, and taking him down, wrapped him in the fine linen and laid him in a sepulcher, which was hewn from a rock. And he rolled a stone to the entrance of the tomb.	46 Ed egli, comperato un panno lino, e tratto Gesù giù di croce, l’involse nel panno, e lo pose in un monumento, che era tagliato dentro una roccia; e rotolò una pietra all’apertura del monumento.
47 Now Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph observed where he was laid.	47 E Maria Maddalena, e Maria madre di Iose, riguardavano ove egli sarebbe posto
