1 In that day, Jesus, departing from the house, sat down beside the sea.	1 Aquel día, salió Jesús de casa y se sentó a orillas del mar.
2 And such great crowds were gathered to him that he climbed into a boat and he sat down. And the entire multitude stood on the shore.	2 Y se reunió tanta gente junto a él, que hubo de subir a sentarse en una barca, y toda la gente quedaba en la ribera.
3 And he spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow seed.	3 Y les habló muchas cosas en parábolas. Decía: «Una vez salió un sembrador a sembrar.
4 And while he was sowing, some fell beside the road, and the birds of the air came and ate it.	4 Y al sembrar, unas semillas cayeron a lo largo del camino; vinieron las aves y se las comieron.
5 Then others fell in a rocky place, where they did not have much soil. And they sprung up promptly, because they had no depth of soil.	5 Otras cayeron en pedregal, donde no tenían mucha tierra, y brotaron enseguida por no tener hondura de tierra;
6 But when the sun rose up, they were scorched, and because they had no roots, they withered.	6 pero en cuanto salió el sol se agostaron y, por no tener raíz, se secaron.
7 Still others fell among thorns, and the thorns increased and suffocated them.	7 Otras cayeron entre abrojos; crecieron los abrojos y las ahogaron.
8 Yet some others fell upon good soil, and they produced fruit: some one hundred fold, some sixty fold, some thirty fold.	8 Otras cayeron en tierra buena y dieron fruto, una ciento, otra sesenta, otra treinta.
9 Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.”	9 El que tenga oídos, que oiga».
10 And his disciples drew near to him and said, “Why do you speak to them in parables?”	10 Y acercándose los discípulos le dijeron: «¿Por qué les hablas en parábolas?»
11 Responding, he said to them: “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but it has not been given to them.	11 El les respondió: «Es que a vosotros se os ha dado el conocer los misterios del Reino de los Cielos, pero a ellos no.
12 For whoever has, it shall be given to him, and he shall have in abundance. But whoever has not, even what he has shall be taken away from him.	12 Porque a quien tiene se le dará y le sobrará; pero a quien no tiene, aun lo que tiene se le quitará.
13 For this reason, I speak to them in parables: because seeing, they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.	13 Por eso les hablo en parábolas, porque viendo no ven, y oyendo no oyen ni entienden.
14 And so, in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, who said, ‘Hearing, you shall hear, but not understand; and seeing, you shall see, but not perceive.	14 En ellos se cumple la profecía de Isaías: Oír, oiréis, pero no entenderéis, mirar, miraréis, pero no veréis.
15 For the heart of this people has grown fat, and with their ears they hear heavily, and they have closed their eyes, lest at any time they might see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and then I would heal them.’	15 Porque se ha embotado el corazón de este pueblo, han hecho duros sus oídos, y sus ojos han cerrado; no sea que vean con sus ojos, con sus oídos oigan, con su corazón entiendan y se conviertan, y yo los sane.
16 But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear.	16 «¡Pero dichosos vuestros ojos, porque ven, y vuestros oídos, porque oyen!
17 Amen I say to you, certainly, that many of the prophets and the just desired to see what you see, and yet they did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and yet they did not hear it.	17 Pues os aseguro que muchos profetas y justos desearon ver lo que vosotros veis, pero no lo vieron, y oír lo que vosotros oís, pero no lo oyeron.
18 Listen, then, to the parable of the sower.	18 «Vosotros, pues, escuchad la parábola del sembrador.
19 With anyone who hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, evil comes and carries away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received the seed by the side of the road.	19 Sucede a todo el que oye la Palabra del Reino y no la comprende, que viene el Maligno y arrebata lo sembrado en su corazón: éste es el que fue sembrado a lo largo del camino.
20 Then whoever has received the seed upon a rocky place, this is one who hears the word and promptly accepts it with joy.	20 El que fue sembrado en pedregal, es el que oye la Palabra, y al punto la recibe con alegría;
21 But he has no root in himself, so it is only for a time; then, when tribulation and persecution occur because of the word, he promptly stumbles.	21 pero no tiene raíz en sí mismo, sino que es inconstante y, cuando se presenta una tribulación o persecución por causa de la Palabra, sucumba enseguida.
22 And whoever has received the seed among thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of this age and the falseness of riches suffocate the word, and he is effectively without fruit.	22 El que fue sembrado entre los abrojos, es el que oye la Palabra, pero los preocupaciones del mundo y la seducción de las riquezas ahogan la Palabra, y queda sin fruto.
23 Yet truly, whoever has received the seed into good soil, this is he who hears the word, and understands it, and so he bears fruit, and he produces: some a hundred fold, and another sixty fold, and another thirty fold.”	23 Pero el que fue sembrado en tierra buena, es el que oye la Palabra y la comprende: éste sí que da fruto y produce, uno ciento, otro sesenta, otro treinta».
24 He proposed another parable to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field.	24 Otra parábola les propuso, diciendo: «El Reino de los Cielos es semejante a un hombre que sembró buena semilla en su campo.
25 But while the men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds amid the wheat, and then went away.	25 Pero, mientras su gente dormía, vino su enemigo, sembró encima cizaña entre el trigo, y se fue.
26 And when the plants had grown, and had produced fruit, then the weeds also appeared.	26 Cuando brotó la hierba y produjo fruto, apareció entonces también la cizaña.
27 So the servants of the Father of the family, approaching, said to him: ‘Lord, did you not sow good seed in your field? Then how is it that it has weeds?’	27 Los siervos del amo se acercaron a decirle: “Señor, ¿no sembraste semilla buena en tu campo? ¿Cómo es que tiene cizaña?”
28 And he said to them, ‘A man who is an enemy has done this.’ So the servants said to him, ‘Is it your will that we should go and gather them up?’	28 El les contestó: “Algún enemigo ha hecho esto.” Dícenle los siervos: “¿Quieres, pues, que vayamos a recogerla?”
29 And he said: ‘No, lest perhaps in gathering the weeds, you might also root out the wheat together with it.	29 Díceles: “No, no sea que, al recoger la cizaña, arranquéis a la vez el trigo.
30 Permit both to grow until the harvest, and at the time of the harvest, I will say to the reapers: Gather first the weeds, and bind them into bundles to burn, but the wheat gather into my storehouse.’ ”	30 Dejad que ambos crezcan juntos hasta la siega. Y al tiempo de la siega, diré a los segadores: Recoged primero la cizaña y atadla en gavillas para quemarla, y el trigo recogedlo en mi granero.”»
31 He proposed another parable to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field.	31 Otra parábola les propuso: «El Reino de los Cielos es semejante a un grano de mostaza que tomó un hombre y lo sembró en su campo.
32 It is, indeed, the least of all seeds, but when it has grown, it is greater than all the plants, and it becomes a tree, so much so that the birds of the air come and dwell in its branches.”	32 Es ciertamente más pequeña que cualquier semilla, pero cuando crece es mayor que las hortalizas, y se hace árbol, hasta el punto de que las aves del cielo vienen y anidan en sus ramas».
33 He spoke another parable to them: “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of fine wheat flour, until it was entirely leavened.”	33 Les dijo otra parábola: «El Reino de los Cielos es semejante a la levadura que tomó una mujer y la metió en tres medidas de harina, hasta que fermentó todo».
34 All these things Jesus spoke in parables to the crowds. And he did not speak to them apart from parables,	34 Todo esto dijo Jesús en parábolas a la gente, y nada les hablaba sin parábolas,
35 in order to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet, saying: “I will open my mouth in parables. I will proclaim what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.”	35 para que se cumpliese el oráculo del profeta: Abriré en parábolas mi boca, publicaré lo que estaba oculto desde la creación del mundo.
36 Then, dismissing the crowds, he went into the house. And his disciples drew near to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”	36 Entonces despidió a la multitud y se fue a casa. Y se le acercaron sus discípulos diciendo: «Explícanos la parábola de la cizaña del campo».
37 Responding, he said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of man.	37 El respondió: «El que siembra la buena semilla es el Hijo del hombre;
38 Now the field is the world. And the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom. But the weeds are the sons of wickedness.	38 el campo es el mundo; la buena semilla son los hijos del Reino; la cizaña son los hijos del Maligno;
39 So the enemy who sowed them is the devil. And truly, the harvest is the consummation of the age; while the reapers are the Angels.	39 el enemigo que la sembró es el Diablo; la siega es el fin del mundo, y los segadores son los ángeles.
40 Therefore, just as weeds are gathered up and burned with fire, so shall it be at the consummation of the age.	40 De la misma manera, pues, que se recoge la cizaña y se la quema en el fuego, así será al fin del mundo.
41 The Son of man shall send out his Angels, and they shall gather from his kingdom all who lead astray and those who work iniquity.	41 El Hijo del hombre enviará a sus ángeles, que recogerán de su Reino todos los escándalos y a los obradores de iniquidad,
42 And he shall cast them into the furnace of fire, where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.	42 y los arrojarán en el horno de fuego; allí será el llanto y el rechinar de dientes.
43 Then the just ones shall shine like the sun, in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.	43 Entonces los justos brillarán como el sol en el Reino de su Padre. El que tenga oídos, que oiga.
44 The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. When a man finds it, he hides it, and, because of his joy, he goes and sells everything that he has, and he buys that field.	44 «El Reino de los Cielos es semejante a un tesoro escondido en un campo que, al encontrarlo un hombre, vuelve a esconderlo y, por la alegría que le da, va, vende todo lo que tiene y compra el campo aquel».
45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking good pearls.	45 «También es semejante el Reino de los Cielos a un mercader que anda buscando perlas finas,
46 Having found one pearl of great value, he went away and sold all that he had, and he bought it.	46 y que, al encontrar una perla de gran valor, va, vende todo lo que tiene y la compra.
47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net cast into the sea, which gathers together all kinds of fish.	47 «También es semejante el Reino de los Cielos a una red que se echa en el mar y recoge peces de todas clases;
48 When it has been filled, drawing it out and sitting beside the shore, they selected the good into vessels, but the bad they threw away.	48 y cuando está llena, la sacan a la orilla, se sientan, y recogen en cestos los buenos y tiran los malos.
49 So shall it be at the consummation of the age. The Angels shall go forth and separate the bad from the midst of the just.	49 Así sucederá al fin del mundo: saldrán los ángeles, separarán a los malos de entre los justos
50 And they shall cast them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.	50 y los echarán en el horno de fuego; allí será el llanto y el rechinar de dientes.
51 Have you understood all these things?” They say to him, “Yes.”	51 «¿Habéis entendido todo esto?» Dícenle: «Sí».
52 He said to them, “Therefore, every scribe well-taught about the kingdom of heaven, is like a man, the father of a family, who offers from his storehouse both the new and the old.”	52 Y él les dijo: «Así, todo escriba que se ha hecho discípulo del Reino de los Cielos es semejante al dueño de una casa que saca de sus arcas lo nuevo y lo viejo».
53 And it happened that, when Jesus had completed these parables, he went away from there.	53 Y sucedió que, cuando acabó Jesús estas parábolas, partió de allí.
54 And arriving in his own country, he taught them in their synagogues, so much so that they wondered and said: “How can such wisdom and power be with this one?	54 Viniendo a su patria, les enseñaba en su sinagoga, de tal manera que decían maravillados: «¿De dónde le viene a éste esa sabiduría y esos milagros?
55 Is this not the son of a workman? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brothers, James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Jude?	55 ¿No es éste el hijo del carpintero? ¿No se llama su madre María, y sus hermanos Santiago, José, Simón y Judas?
56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Therefore, from where has this one obtained all these things?”	56 Y sus hermanas, ¿no están todas entre nosotros? Entonces, ¿de dónde le viene todo esto?»
57 And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country and in his own house.”	57 Y se escandalizaban a causa de él. Mas Jesús les dijo: «Un profeta sólo en su patria y en su casa carece de prestigio».
58 And he did not work many miracles there, because of their unbelief.	58 Y no hizo allí muchos milagros, a causa de su falta de fe.
