Psalms 72

1 A Psalm of Asaph. How good is God to Israel, to those who are upright in heart.	1 - Salmo di Asaf. Quant' è buono Iddio con Israele, con quei che sono di cuore retto!
2 But my feet were nearly moved; my steps had nearly slipped.	2 Eppure, per poco non han vacillato i miei piedi, per poco non son sdrucciolati i miei passi!
3 For I was zealous over the iniquitous, seeing the peacefulness of sinners.	3 Perchè ho invidiato gl'iniqui, vedendo la prosperità de' malvagi.
4 For they have no respect for their death, nor do they have support in their wounds.	4 Giacchè non c'è di che pensare alla lor morte, nè v'è stabilità nella loro sciagura.
5 They are not with the hardships of men, nor will they be scourged with men.	5 A' travagli degli uomini non han parte, nè con gli [altri] uomini son flagellati.
6 Therefore, arrogance has held on to them. They have been covered with their iniquity and impiety.	6 Perciò li possiede l'orgoglio, son ammantati della loro iniquità ed empietà!
7 Their iniquity has proceeded, as if from fat. They have parted from the affection of the heart.	7 Spunta quasi dal grasso la loro iniquità, s'abbandonano alla passione del cuore.
8 They have thought and spoken wickedness. They have spoken iniquity in high places.	8 Pensano e parlano malvagità, iniquità parlan dall'alto.
9 They have set their mouth against heaven, and their tongue has traversed the earth.	9 Drizzano contro il cielo la lor bocca, e la lingua loro percorre la terra.
10 Therefore, my people will be converted here, and fullness of days will be found in them.	10 Perciò si volge il mio popolo dalla lor parte, poichè lunghi [e prosperi] giorni trovano in essi.
11 And they said, “How would God know?” and, “Isn’t there knowledge in high places?”	11 E dicono: «Come [può esser vero] che Dio sa? e v'ha egli conoscenza nell'Altissimo?
12 Behold, these are sinners, and, abounding in this age, they have obtained riches.	12 Eccoli lì gli empi!e [son tuttavia] i fortunati del secolo, ammassan ricchezze».
13 And I said: So then, it is without purpose that I have justified my heart and washed my hands among the innocent.	13 E dissi: «Invano adunque ho purificato il mio cuore, e ho lavato nell'innocenza le mie mani;
14 And I have been scourged all day long, and I have received my chastisement in the mornings.	14 [giacchè] son flagellato tutto il dì, e il mio castigo [comincia sin] dal mattino!».
15 If I were to say that I would explain this: Behold, I would condemn this nation of your sons.	15 Se avessi detto: «[Sì], parlerò così», ecco avrei tradito la stirpe de' tuoi figliuoli.
16 I considered, so that I might know this. It is a hardship before me,	16 [Perciò] andavo riflettendo per intender questo [mistero];[ma] un incubo era davanti agli occhi miei.
17 until I may enter into the Sanctuary of God, and understand it to its last part.	17 Finchè penetrai nel sacrario di Dio, e compresi la [triste] loro fine.
18 So, because of deceitfulness, truly, you have placed it before them. While they were being lifted up, you were casting them down.	18 Davvero, per ingannarli hai [così] disposto [le cose] per loro: tu gli abbatti nel mentre s'esaltano!
19 How have they been brought to desolation? They have suddenly failed. They have perished because of their iniquity.	19 Come vanno in malora a un tratto!si dileguano, periscono per la loro iniquità.
20 As a dream is to those who awaken, O Lord, so will you reduce their image to nothing in your city.	20 Come un sogno di chi si sveglia, o Signore, [così] annienti nella tua città, l'immagine loro!
21 For my heart has been inflamed, and my temperament has been changed.	21 Quando acceso era il mio cuore, e perturbati i miei reni,
22 And so, I have been reduced to nothing, and I did not know it.	22 io diventavo un nulla e non capivo niente,
23 I have become like a beast of burden to you, and I am always with you.	23 ero come un bruto davanti a te! Ma [ora] io son sempre con te:
24 You have held my right hand. And in your will, you have conducted me, and with your glory, you have taken me up.	24 tu mi tieni per la mia destrae secondo il tuo volere mi guidi, e [poi] m'accoglierai con gloria.
25 For what is there for me in heaven? And what do I wish for on earth before you?	25 Cos'[altro], infatti, c'è per me nel cielo? e fuori di te che cosa io voglio sulla terra?
26 My body has failed, and my heart: O God of my heart, and God my portion, into eternity.	26 Vien meno la mia carne e il mio cuore; Dio del mio cuore e mia porzione è Iddio in eterno!
27 For behold, those who put themselves far from you will perish. You have perished all those who fornicate away from you.	27 Perchè ecco, quei che si allontanan da te periranno, in perdizione tu mandi quanti fan divorzio da te.
28 But it is good for me to adhere to God, to put my hope in the Lord God, so that I may announce all your prophecies, at the gates of the daughter of Zion.	28 Ma buon per me lo stare unito a Dio, porre nel Signore Iddio la mia speranza! per celebrar le tue lodialle porte della città di Sion.
