Psalms 131

1 A Canticle in steps. O Lord, remember David and all his meekness,	1 - Cantico de' gradini. Ricordati, o Signore, di Davide di tutta la sua pietà,
2 how he swore to the Lord, how he made a vow to the God of Jacob:	2 com'egli giurò al Signore e fece voto al Dio di Giacobbe:
3 I shall not enter into the tabernacle of my house, nor climb into the bed where I lie down;	3 «Non entrerò nella tenda di mia dimora, non salirò sul letto del mio giaciglio,
4 I shall not give sleep to my eyes, nor slumber to my eyelids	4 non darò sonno agli occhi mieinè sopore alle mie palpebre
5 and rest to my temples, until I find a place for the Lord, a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.	5 e riposo alle mie tempie, sino a ch'io trovi un luogo per il Signore, un padiglione per il Dio di Giacobbe!».
6 Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah. We discovered it in the fields of the forest.	6 Ecco, abbiamo udito di essa in Efrata, l'abbiam trovata ne' campi di Jaar.
7 We will enter into his tabernacle. We will adore in the place where his feet stood.	7 Entriamo nel suo padiglione, prostriamoci davanti allo sgabello de' suoi piedi.
8 Rise up, O Lord, into your resting place. You and the ark of your sanctification.	8 Sorgi, o Signore, verso [il luogo del] tuo riposo, tu e l'arca della tua santità.
9 Let your priests be clothed with justice, and let your saints exult.	9 I tuoi sacerdoti si rivestano di giustizia, e i tuoi santi esultino.
10 For the sake of your servant David, do not turn away the face of your Christ.	10 Per amor di David tuo servo, non rigettar la faccia del tuo Unto!
11 The Lord has sworn the truth to David, and he will not disappoint: I will set upon your throne from the fruit of your lineage.	11 Ha giurato il Signore a David la verità, e non verrà meno ad essa:«Un frutto delle tue viscereio porrò sul tuo trono.
12 If your sons will keep my covenant and these, my testimonies, which I will teach to them, then their sons will sit upon your throne even forever.	12 Se osserveranno i tuoi figliuoli il mio pattoe gli statuti miei che insegno loro, anche i loro figliuoli in perpetuosederanno sul tuo trono».
13 For the Lord has chosen Zion. He has chosen it as his dwelling place.	13 Perchè il Signore ha scelto Sion, se l'è scelta per dimora:
14 This is my resting place, forever and ever. Here I will dwell, for I have chosen it.	14 «Quest'è il mio riposo per i secoli, qui abiterò perchè l'ho voluta.
15 When blessing, I will bless her widow. I will satisfy her poor with bread.	15 Il suo cibo benedirò largamente, i suoi poveri satollerò di pane.
16 I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints will rejoice with great joy.	16 I suoi sacerdoti rivestirò di salvezza, e i suoi santi esulteranno giubilanti.
17 There, I will produce a horn to David. There, I have prepared a lamp for my Christ.	17 La farò spuntare la potenza di David, preparerò una lucerna al mio Unto.
18 I will clothe his enemies with confusion. But my sanctification will flourish over him.	18 I suoi nemici coprirò d'ignominia, ma su di lui fiorirà la mia santità».
