1 And Israel, setting out with all that he had, arrived at the Well of the Oath. And sacrificing victims there to the God of his father Isaac,	1 Israël partit donc avec tout ce qu’il possédait, et il arriva à Bersabée où il offrit des sacrifices au Dieu de son père Isaac.
2 he heard him, by a vision in the night, calling him, and saying to him: “Jacob, Jacob.” And he answered him, “Behold, here I am.”	2 Durant la nuit, Dieu parla à Israël dans une vision: “Jacob! Jacob!” lui dit-il. Il répondit: “Me voici!”
3 God said to him: “I am the most strong God of your father. Do not be afraid. Descend into Egypt, for there I will make of you a great nation.	3 Dieu lui dit: “Je suis le Dieu de ton père! Ne crains pas de descendre en Égypte, car je ferai de toi une grande nation.
4 I will descend with you to that place, and I will lead you back from there, returning. Also, Joseph will place his hands over your eyes.	4 Je descendrai avec toi en Égypte et je t’en ferai remonter. Et c’est Joseph qui te fermera les yeux.”
5 Then Jacob rose up from the Well of the Oath. And his sons took him, with their little ones and wives, in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent to carry the old man,	5 Jacob quitta donc Bersabée et les fils d’Israël transportèrent leur père Jacob avec leurs petits enfants et leurs femmes, sur les chariots que Pharaon avait envoyés pour les transporter.
6 along with all that he possessed in the land of Canaan. And he arrived in Egypt with all his offspring:	6 Ils prirent leurs troupeaux et tout ce qu’ils avaient amassé au pays de Canaan, et c’est ainsi que Jacob et toute sa famille avec lui entrèrent en Égypte.
7 his sons and his grandsons, his daughters and all his progeny together.	7 Il emmena toute sa descendance en Égypte: ses fils et ses filles avec tous leurs enfants.
8 Now these are the names of the sons of Israel, who entered into Egypt, he with his children. The firstborn is Reuben.	8 Voici les noms des fils d’Israël qui entrèrent en Égypte, c’est-à-dire Jacob et sa descendance: Premier-né de Jacob: Ruben.
9 The sons of Reuben: Hanoch and Pallu, and Hezron and Carmi.	9 Fils de Ruben: Hénok, Pallu, Hesron, Karmi.
10 The sons of Simeon: Jemuel and Jamin and Ohad, and Jachin and Zohar, and Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman.	10 Fils de Siméon: Yémouel, Yamin, Ohad, Yakin, Sokar, et Chaoul, le fils de la Cananéenne.

22 These are the sons of Rachel, whom she bore to Jacob: all these souls are fourteen.	22 Voilà les fils que Rachel donna à Jacob. Au total: 14 personnes.
23 The sons of Dan: Hushim.	23 Fils de Dan: Houchim.
24 The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel and Guni, and Jezer and Shillem.	24 Fils de Nephtali: Yakhséel, Gouni, Yéser et Chillem.
25 These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel, and these she bore to Jacob: all these souls are seven.	25 Ce sont là les fils que Bila avait donnés à Jacob. Au total: 7 personnes. Bila était la servante que Laban avait donnée à sa fille Rachel.

All the souls of the house of Jacob, who went into Egypt, were seventy.	27 Quant aux fils que Joseph eut en Égypte, ils étaient deux; le total des personnes de la maison de Jacob qui s’installèrent en Égypte était donc de 70.
28 Then he sent Judah ahead of himself, to Joseph, in order to report to him, and so that he would meet him in Goshen.	28 Avant d’entrer dans le pays de Gossen, Jacob envoya devant lui Juda à la rencontre de Joseph pour le prévenir de son arrivée au pays de Gossen.
29 And when he had arrived there, Joseph harnessed his chariot, and he went up to meet his father at the same place. And seeing him, he fell upon his neck, and, amid embraces, he wept.	29 Joseph attela son char et partit à la rencontre d’Israël, son père, en Gossen. 31 And he said to his brothers and to all his father’s house: “I will go up and report to Pharaoh, and I will say to him: ‘My brothers, and my father’s house, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me.	31 Joseph dit à ses frères et à la famille de son père: “Je m’en vais avertir le Pharaon. Je lui dirai: Mes frères et la famille de mon père qui étaient en Canaan sont venus me rejoindre.
32 And these honorable men are pastors of sheep, and they have the task of feeding the flock. Their cattle, and herds, and all that they were able to hold, they have brought with them.’	32 Ces hommes sont des bergers de petit bétail, ils sont éleveurs de troupeaux. Ils ont amené leur petit bétail et leur gros bétail, ainsi que tout ce qu’ils possédaient.
33 And when he will call you and will say, ‘What is your work?’	33 Lorsque le Pharaon vous appellera et vous dira: Que faisiez-vous?
34 You will respond, ‘Your servants are pastors of honor, from our infancy even to the present time, both we and our fathers.’ Now you will say this so that you may be able to live in the land of Goshen, because the Egyptians detest all pastors of sheep.”	34 vous répondrez: Tes serviteurs ont été éleveurs de bêtes depuis leur jeunesse jusqu’à ce jour. C’est ce que nous faisons, comme le faisaient nos pères.
	35 Ainsi vous pourrez rester dans le pays de Gossen, car les bergers sont méprisés dans toute l’Égypte.”
