Job 22

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Eliphaz of Teman spoke next. He said:	1 Elifaz de Temán replicó, diciendo:
2 Can a human being contribute anything to God, when even someone intel igent can benefit onlyhimself?	2 ¿Puede un hombre ser útil a Dios? Incluso el más capaz, ¿le es útil en algo?
3 Does Shaddai derive any benefit from your uprightness, or profit from your blameless conduct?	3 ¿Le importa al Todopoderoso que tú seas justo? ¿Obtiene una ganancia si tu conducta es perfecta?
4 Do you think he is punishing you for your piety and bringing you to justice for that?	4 ¿Es por tu piedad que te reprueba y entabla un juicio contigo?
5 No, for your great wickedness, more likely, for your unlimited sins!	5 ¿No es más bien por tu enorme maldad y porque tus faltas no tienen límite?
6 You have exacted unearned pledges from your brothers, stripped people naked of their clothes,	6 Tú exigías sin motivo prendas a tus hermanos y despojabas de su ropa a los desnudos.
7 failed to give water to the thirsty and refused bread to the hungry;	7 No dabas de beber al extenuado y negabas el pan al hambriento.
8 handed the land over to a strong man, for some favoured person to move in,	8 «¡El país pertenece al de brazo fuerte; el privilegiado se instala en él!».
9 sent widows away empty-handed and crushed the arms of orphans.	9 Despedías a las viudas con las manos vacías y quebraban los brazos de los huérfanos.
10 No wonder, then, if snares are al around you, and sudden terrors make you afraid;	10 Por eso ahora estás rodeado de lazos y te estremece un terror repentino.
11 if light has turned to darkness, so that you cannot see, and you have been submerged in the flood.	11 Se oscureció la luz, y no ves; te sumergen las aguas desbordadas.
12 Does not God live high in the heavens, does he not see the zenith of the stars?	12 ¿No está Dios en la cima del cielo? ¡Mira qué alta es la bóveda estrellada!
13 And because he is up there, you have said, 'What does God know? Can he judge through the darkcloud?	13 Por eso dijiste: «¿Qué sabe Dios? ¿Puede juzgar a través de los nubarrones?
14 The clouds, to him, are an impenetrable veil, as he goes his way on the rim of the heavens.'	14 Las nubes lo tapan, no puede ver; él se pasea por los bordes del cielo».
15 And wil you stil fol ow the ancient trail trodden by the wicked,	15 ¿Quieres seguir por el camino antiguo que recorrieron los hombres perversos?
16 those who were borne off before their time, whose foundations were swamped by a flood,	16 Ellos fueron arrebatados antes de tiempo, cuando un río inundó sus cimientos.
17 for having said to God, 'Go away! What can Shaddai do to us?'	17 Decían a Dios: «¡Apártate de nosotros! ¿Qué puede hacernos el Todopoderoso?».
18 Yet he himself had filled their houses with good things, although excluded from the plans of thewicked!	18 Y aunque él llenaba sus casas de bienes, el designio de los malvados seguía lejos de él.
19 At such a spectacle, the upright rejoice, and the innocent deride them:	19 Los justos lo ven y se alegran, el inocente se burla de ellos:
20 'See how our enemies have been destroyed! See how their wealth has perished in the flames!'	20 «¿No ha sido aniquilada su fortuna y el fuego devoró hasta sus residuos?».
21 Wel then! Make peace with him, be reconciled, and al your happiness will be restored to you.	21 Llega a un acuerdo con Dios, reconcíliate, y así alcanzarás la felicidad.
22 Welcome the teaching from his lips, and keep his words close to your heart.	22 Recibe la instrucción de sus labios y guarda sus palabras en tu corazón.
23 If you return, humbled, to Shaddai and drive wickedness far from your tent,	23 Si vuelves al Todopoderoso con humildad y alejas de tu carpa la injusticia;
24 if you lay your gold down on the dust, Ophir down among the pebbles of the torrent,	24 si arrojas el oro en el polvo y el oro de Ofir entre las piedras del torrente,
25 Shaddai wil be bars of gold to you and silver piled in heaps.	25 entonces el Todopoderoso será tu oro, él será un montón de plata para ti.
26 Then Shaddai will be al your delight, and you wil lift your face to God.	26 En el Todopoderoso estará tu deleite y levantarás tu rostro hacia Dios.
27 You wil pray, and he wil hear; and you wil be able to fulfil your vows.	27 Tú le suplicarás y él te escuchará, y podrás cumplir tus votos.
28 Whatever you undertake wil go wel , and light will shine on your path;	28 Si te propones algo, te saldrá bien, y sobre tus senderos brillará la luz.
29 for he casts down the pride of the arrogant, but he saves those of downcast eyes.	29 Porque él humilla la altivez del soberbio pero salva al que baja los ojos.
30 He rescues anyone who is innocent; have your hands clean, and you wil be saved.	30 El libra al hombre inocente, y tú te librarás por la pureza de tus manos.
