1 Al the tribes of Israel then came to David at Hebron and said, 'Look, we are your own flesh and bone.	1 Los filisteos apresaron el Arca de Dios y la condujeron de Ebenézer a Asdod.
2 In days past when Saul was our king, it was you who led Israel on its campaigns, and to you it was thatYahweh promised, "You are to shepherd my people Israel and be leader of Israel." '	2 Cogieron después el Arca de Dios, la introdujeron en el templo de Dagón y la instalaron a su lado.
3 So al the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a pact with them inYahweh's presence at Hebron, and they anointed David as king of Israel.	3 A la mañana siguiente, los habitantes de Asdod se levantaron temprano y encontraron a Dagón caído de bruces en tierra ante el Arca del Señor. Lo recogieron y lo volvieron a poner en su sitio.
4 David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned for forty years.	4 A la mañana siguiente se levantaron y encontraron nuevamente a Dagón caído de bruces en tierra ante el Arca del Señor. Su cabeza y las palmas de las manos estaban cortadas junto al umbral. No quedaba de él más que un poco.
5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah for seven years and six months; then he reigned in Jerusalem over allIsrael and Judah for thirty-three years.	5 Por eso los sacerdotes y cuantos entran en el templo de Dagón en Asdod no pisan el umbral hasta el día de hoy.
6 The king and his men then marched on Jerusalem, on the Jebusites living in the territory. These said toDavid, 'You wil not get in here. The blind and the lame wil hold you off.' (That is to say: David will never get inhere.)	6 La mano del Señor cargó sobre los habitantes de Asdod y los asoló, hiriendo con tumores a Asdod y su entorno.
7 But David captured the citadel of Zion, that is, the City of David.	7 Al ver lo que sucedía, las gentes de Asdod dijeron: «No siga entre nosotros el Arca del Dios de Israel, pues su mano carga duramente sobre nosotros y sobre nuestro dios Dagón».
8 That day, David said, 'Whoever gets up the tunnel and kil s a Jebusite . . .' As for the blind and thelame, David hated them with his whole being. (Hence the saying: the blind and the lame may not enter theTemple.)	8 Convocaron a todos los príncipes de los filisteos, y les preguntaron: «¿Qué tenemos que hacer con el Arca del Dios de Israel?». Respondieron: «Sea trasladada a Gat». Y trasladaron el Arca del Dios de Israel.
9 David went to live in the citadel and cal ed it the City of David. David then built a wal round it, from theMil o inwards.	9 Una vez trasladada el Arca, la mano del Señor causó un pánico enorme en la ciudad. Hirió a sus gentes, desde el pequeño al grande, y les salieron tumores.
10 David grew stronger and stronger, and Yahweh, God of Sabaoth, was with him.	10 Entonces enviaron el Arca de Dios a Ecrón. Pero, cuando llegó a Ecrón, los ecronitas gritaron: «Nos han traído el Arca del Dios de Israel, para hacernos morir a nosotros y a nuestro pueblo».
11 Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, with cedar wood, carpenters and stone-cutters, who builtDavid a palace.	11 Convocaron a todos los príncipes de los filisteos y les dijeron: «Despedid el Arca del Dios de Israel y torne a su lugar, para que no nos mate a nosotros y a nuestro pueblo». Había un pánico mortal en toda la ciudad, porque la mano de Dios se había hecho allí muy pesada.
12 David then knew that Yahweh had confirmed him as king of Israel and, for the sake of his peopleIsrael, had extended his sovereignty.	12 A los que no morían les salían tumores y el clamor de la ciudad subía hasta el cielo.
13 After coming from Hebron, David took other concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and sons anddaughters were born to him.
14 These are the names of those born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,
15 Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia,
16 Elishama, Eliada, Eliphelet.
17 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed as king of Israel, they all went up to seekhim out. On hearing this, David went down to the stronghold.
18 When the Philistines arrived, they deployed in the Val ey of the Rephaim.
19 David consulted Yahweh and asked, 'Shal I attack the Philistines? Wil you deliver them into mypower?' Yahweh replied to David, 'Attack! I shal certainly deliver the Philistines into your power.'
20 Accordingly, David went to Baal-Perazim and there David defeated them. He said, 'Yahweh has madea breach in my enemies for me, as though they had been breached by a flood.' This is why the place was giventhe name Baal-Perazim.
21 They had left their gods behind them there, and David and his men carried them off.
22 Again the Philistines invaded and deployed in the Valley of the Rephaim.
23 David consulted Yahweh, who replied, 'Do not attack them from the front; go round to their rear andengage them opposite the balsam trees.
24 When you hear the sound of footsteps in the tops of the balsam trees, advance, for that wil beYahweh going out ahead of you to defeat the Philistine army.'
25 David did as Yahweh had ordered and beat the Philistines from Gibeon to the Pass of Gezer.
