1 Al the tribes of Israel then came to David at Hebron and said, 'Look, we are your own flesh and bone.	1 Vennero poi tutte le tribù di Israele da David a Hebron e dissero: «Eccoci, noi siamo tue ossa e tua carne.
2 In days past when Saul was our king, it was you who led Israel on its campaigns, and to you it was thatYahweh promised, "You are to shepherd my people Israel and be leader of Israel." '	2 Già prima, quando ancora Saul regnava su di noi, tu eri colui che conduceva e riconduceva Israele. Inoltre Jahvè ha detto a te: “Tu pascerai il mio popolo Israele; tu diventerai capo su Israele”».
3 So al the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a pact with them inYahweh's presence at Hebron, and they anointed David as king of Israel.	3 In seguito, tutti gli anziani di Israele vennero dal re a Hebron: il re David strinse con loro un patto a Hebron al cospetto di Jahvè ed essi unsero David re di Israele.
4 David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned for forty years.	4 David aveva trent’anni quando divenne re e regnò quarant’anni:
5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah for seven years and six months; then he reigned in Jerusalem over allIsrael and Judah for thirty-three years.	5 a Hebron regnò su Giuda sette anni e sei mesi; a Gerusalemme regnò trentatrè anni su tutto Israele e su Giuda.
6 The king and his men then marched on Jerusalem, on the Jebusites living in the territory. These said toDavid, 'You wil not get in here. The blind and the lame wil hold you off.' (That is to say: David will never get inhere.)	6 Il re poi andò con i suoi uomini a Gerusalemme contro il Gebuseo che abitava quella terra. Fu detto a David: «Non entrerai poiche i ciechi e gli zoppi ti cacceranno fuori». Ciò significava: David non riuscirà a entrare qui.
7 But David captured the citadel of Zion, that is, the City of David.	7 Tuttavia David espugnò la rocca di Sion, cioè la città di David.
8 That day, David said, 'Whoever gets up the tunnel and kil s a Jebusite . . .' As for the blind and thelame, David hated them with his whole being. (Hence the saying: the blind and the lame may not enter theTemple.)	8 Ora aveva detto David in quel giorno: «Chiunque per primo avrà colpito il Gebuseo penetrando attraverso la galleria dell’acquedotto diventerà capo e duce. Quanto poi ai ciechi e agli zoppi che odiano David...». Perciò si dice: «Né il cieco né lo zoppo entrerà nella casa!»
9 David went to live in the citadel and cal ed it the City of David. David then built a wal round it, from theMil o inwards.	9 David abitò nella rocca e la chiamò città di David; poi costruì un muro intorno dal Millo fino all’interno.
10 David grew stronger and stronger, and Yahweh, God of Sabaoth, was with him.	10 David divenne sempre più potente, poiché era con lui Jahvè, Dio degli eserciti.
11 Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, with cedar wood, carpenters and stone-cutters, who builtDavid a palace.	11 Khiram poi, re di Tiro, inviò messaggeri a David e legni di cedro e carpentieri e lavoratori della pietra da costruzione, i quali edificarono una casa a David.
12 David then knew that Yahweh had confirmed him as king of Israel and, for the sake of his peopleIsrael, had extended his sovereignty.	12 Allora David si convinse che Jahvè lo aveva stabilito re sopra Israele e che aveva innalzato il suo regno per Israele suo popolo.
13 After coming from Hebron, David took other concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and sons anddaughters were born to him.	13 Si prese poi David ancora concubine e mogli in Gerusalemme dopo la sua venuta da Hebron; nacquero ancora a David figli e figlie.
14 These are the names of those born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,	14 Questi sono i nomi di coloro che gli nacquero in Gerusalemme: Shammua, Shobab, Natan, Salomone,
15 Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia,	15 Jibkhar, Elishua, Nefeg, Jafia,

17 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed as king of Israel, they all went up to seekhim out. On hearing this, David went down to the stronghold.	17 Ma quando i Filistei seppero che David era stato unto re su tutto Israele, tutti i Filistei salirono a cercare David, David lo seppe e discese verso la fortezza.
18 When the Philistines arrived, they deployed in the Val ey of the Rephaim.	18 I Filistei vennero e si appostarono nella valle dei Refaim.
19 David consulted Yahweh and asked, 'Shal I attack the Philistines? Wil you deliver them into mypower?' Yahweh replied to David, 'Attack! I shal certainly deliver the Philistines into your power.'	19 Allora David interrogò Jahvè: «Devo salire contro i Filistei? Li metterai in mio potere?» Jahvè gli rispose: «Sali, poiché certamente metterò i Filistei in tuo potere».
20 Accordingly, David went to Baal-Perazim and there David defeated them. He said, 'Yahweh has madea breach in my enemies for me, as though they had been breached by a flood.' This is why the place was giventhe name Baal-Perazim.	20 Andò dunque David a Baal-Perazim e ivi li batté. Siccome poi disse: «Jahvè ha aperto una breccia tra i miei nemici davanti a me come una breccia nelle acque»; perciò quel luogo fu chiamato Baal-Perazim.
21 They had left their gods behind them there, and David and his men carried them off.	21 Essi abbandonarono là i loro dèi e David, con i suoi uomini, li portò via.
22 Again the Philistines invaded and deployed in the Valley of the Rephaim.	22 I Filistei salirono un’altra volta e si appostarono nella valle dei Refaim.
23 David consulted Yahweh, who replied, 'Do not attack them from the front; go round to their rear andengage them opposite the balsam trees.	23 David interrogò Jahvè e gli fu risposto: «Non salire contro di essi, gira alle loro spalle e piomba addosso dalla parte di Bechaim.
24 When you hear the sound of footsteps in the tops of the balsam trees, advance, for that wil beYahweh going out ahead of you to defeat the Philistine army.'	24 Quando udrai rumore di passi sulle cime di Bechaim, allora muovi all’attacco, perché allora uscirà Jahvè innanzi a te per battere il campo dei Filistei».
25 David did as Yahweh had ordered and beat the Philistines from Gibeon to the Pass of Gezer.	25 David fece come gli aveva ordinato Jahvè e batté i Filistei da Gob all’ingresso di Gezer.
