1 As soon as morning came, the chief priests with the elders and the scribes, that is, the whole Sanhedrin, held a council. They bound Jesus, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate.	1 ܘܡܚܕܐ ܒܨܦܪܐ ܥܒܕܘ ܡܠܟܐ ܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܥܡ ܩܫܝܫܐ ܘܥܡ ܤܦܪܐ ܘܥܡ ܟܠܗ ܟܢܘܫܬܐ ܘܐܤܪܘ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܘܐܘܒܠܘܗܝ ܘܐܫܠܡܘܗܝ ܠܦܝܠܛܘܤ ܀
2 Pilate questioned him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" He said to him in reply, "You say so."	2 ܘܫܐܠܗ ܦܝܠܛܘܤ ܐܢܬ ܗܘ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܥܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܐܢܬ ܐܡܪܬ ܀
3 The chief priests accused him of many things.	3 ܘܐܟܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܩܪܨܘܗܝ ܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܒܤܓܝܐܬܐ ܀
4 Again Pilate questioned him, "Have you no answer? See how many things they accuse you of."	4 ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܦܝܠܛܘܤ ܬܘܒ ܫܐܠܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܠܐ ܡܦܢܐ ܐܢܬ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܚܙܝ ܟܡܐ ܡܤܗܕܝܢ ܥܠܝܟ ܀
5 Jesus gave him no further answer, so that Pilate was amazed.	5 ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܡܕܡ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܠܐ ܝܗܒ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܢܬܕܡܪ ܦܝܠܛܘܤ ܀
6 Now on the occasion of the feast he used to release to them one prisoner whom they requested.	6 ܡܥܕ ܗܘܐ ܕܝܢ ܒܟܠ ܥܐܕܐ ܠܡܫܪܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܤܝܪܐ ܚܕ ܐܝܢܐ ܕܫܐܠܝܢ ܀
7 A man called Barabbas was then in prison along with the rebels who had committed murder in a rebellion.	7 ܘܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܚܕ ܕܡܬܩܪܐ ܒܪ ܐܒܐ ܕܐܤܝܪ ܗܘܐ ܥܡ ܥܒܕܝ ܐܤܛܤܝܢ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܩܛܠܐ ܒܐܤܛܤܝܢ ܥܒܕܘ ܀
8 The crowd came forward and began to ask him to do for them as he was accustomed.	8 ܘܩܥܘ ܥܡܐ ܘܫܪܝܘ ܠܡܫܐܠ ܐܝܟ ܕܡܥܕ ܗܘܐ ܥܒܕ ܠܗܘܢ ܀
9 Pilate answered, "Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?"	9 ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܦܝܠܛܘܤ ܥܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܨܒܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܐܫܪܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܀
10 For he knew that it was out of envy that the chief priests had handed him over.	10 ܝܕܥ ܗܘܐ ܓܝܪ ܦܝܠܛܘܤ ܕܡܢ ܚܤܡܐ ܐܫܠܡܘܗܝ ܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܀
11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release Barabbas for them instead.	11 ܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܝܬܝܪܐܝܬ ܚܦܛܘ ܠܟܢܫܐ ܕܠܒܪ ܐܒܐ ܢܫܪܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܀
12 Pilate again said to them in reply, "Then what (do you want) me to do with (the man you call) the king of the Jews?"	12 ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܦܝܠܛܘܤ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܢܐ ܗܟܝܠ ܨܒܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܐܥܒܕ ܠܗܢܐ ܕܩܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܀
13 They shouted again, "Crucify him."	13 ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܬܘܒ ܩܥܘ ܙܩܘܦܝܗܝ ܀
14 Pilate said to them, "Why? What evil has he done?" They only shouted the louder, "Crucify him."	14 ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܦܝܠܛܘܤ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܢܐ ܓܝܪ ܕܒܝܫ ܥܒܕ ܘܗܢܘܢ ܝܬܝܪܐܝܬ ܩܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܙܩܘܦܝܗܝ ܀
15 So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas to them and, after he had Jesus scourged, handed him over to be crucified.	15 ܦܝܠܛܘܤ ܕܝܢ ܨܒܐ ܕܢܥܒܕ ܨܒܝܢܐ ܠܟܢܫܐ ܘܫܪܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܒܪ ܐܒܐ ܘܐܫܠܡ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܟܕ ܡܢܓܕ ܕܢܙܕܩܦ ܀
16 The soldiers led him away inside the palace, that is, the praetorium, and assembled the whole cohort.	16 ܐܤܛܪܛܝܘܛܐ ܕܝܢ ܐܘܒܠܘܗܝ ܠܓܘ ܕܪܬܐ ܕܐܝܬܝܗ ܦܪܛܘܪܝܢ ܘܩܪܘ ܠܟܠܗ ܐܤܦܝܪ ܀
17 They clothed him in purple and, weaving a crown of thorns, placed it on him.	17 ܘܐܠܒܫܘܗܝ ܐܪܓܘܢܐ ܘܓܕܠܘ ܤܡܘ ܠܗ ܟܠܝܠܐ ܕܟܘܒܐ ܀
18 They began to salute him with, "Hail, King of the Jews!"	18 ܘܫܪܝܘ ܠܡܫܐܠ ܒܫܠܡܗ ܫܠܡ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܀
19 and kept striking his head with a reed and spitting upon him. They knelt before him in homage.	19 ܘܡܚܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܥܠ ܪܫܗ ܒܩܢܝܐ ܘܪܩܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܐܦܘܗܝ ܘܒܪܟܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܥܠ ܒܘܪܟܝܗܘܢ ܘܤܓܕܝܢ ܠܗ ܀
20 And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak, dressed him in his own clothes, and led him out to crucify him.	20 ܘܟܕ ܒܙܚܘ ܒܗ ܐܫܠܚܘܗܝ ܐܪܓܘܢܐ ܘܐܠܒܫܘܗܝ ܡܐܢܘܗܝ ܘܐܦܩܘܗܝ ܕܢܙܩܦܘܢܝܗܝ ܀
21 They pressed into service a passer-by, Simon, a Cyrenian, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross.	21 ܘܫܚܪܘ ܚܕ ܕܥܒܪ ܗܘܐ ܫܡܥܘܢ ܩܘܪܝܢܝܐ ܕܐܬܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܩܪܝܬܐ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܕܐܠܟܤܢܕܪܘܤ ܘܕܪܘܦܘܤ ܕܢܫܩܘܠ ܙܩܝܦܗ ܀
22 They brought him to the place of Golgotha (which is translated Place of the Skull).	22 ܘܐܝܬܝܘܗܝ ܠܓܓܘܠܬܐ ܕܘܟܬܐ ܕܡܬܦܫܩܐ ܩܪܩܦܬܐ ܀
23 They gave him wine drugged with myrrh, but he did not take it.	23 ܘܝܗܒܘ ܠܗ ܠܡܫܬܐ ܚܡܪܐ ܕܚܠܝܛ ܒܗ ܡܘܪܐ ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܠܐ ܢܤܒ ܀
24 Then they crucified him and divided his garments by casting lots for them to see what each should take.	24 ܘܟܕ ܙܩܦܘܗܝ ܦܠܓܘ ܡܐܢܘܗܝ ܘܐܪܡܝܘ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܦܤܐ ܡܢܘ ܡܢܐ ܢܤܒ ܀
25 It was nine o'clock in the morning when they crucified him.	25 ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܕܝܢ ܫܥܐ ܬܠܬ ܟܕ ܙܩܦܘܗܝ ܀
26 The inscription of the charge against him read, "The King of the Jews."	26 ܘܟܬܝܒܐ ܗܘܬ ܥܠܬܐ ܕܡܘܬܗ ܒܟܬܒܐ ܗܢܐ ܗܘ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܀
27 With him they crucified two revolutionaries, one on his right and one on his left.	27 ܘܙܩܦܘ ܥܡܗ ܬܪܝܢ ܠܤܛܝܐ ܚܕ ܡܢ ܝܡܝܢܗ ܘܚܕ ܡܢ ܤܡܠܗ ܀
28 )	28 ܘܫܠܡ ܟܬܒܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܕܥܡ ܥܘܠܐ ܐܬܚܫܒ ܀
29 Those passing by reviled him, shaking their heads and saying, "Aha! You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,	29 ܘܐܦ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܝܢ ܕܥܒܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܡܓܕܦܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܘܡܢܝܕܝܢ ܪܫܝܗܘܢ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܐܘܢ ܫܪܐ ܗܝܟܠܐ ܘܒܢܐ ܠܗ ܠܬܠܬܐ ܝܘܡܝܢ ܀
30 save yourself by coming down from the cross."	30 ܦܨܐ ܢܦܫܟ ܘܚܘܬ ܡܢ ܙܩܝܦܐ ܀
31 Likewise the chief priests, with the scribes, mocked him among themselves and said, "He saved others; he cannot save himself.	31 ܘܗܟܢܐ ܐܦ ܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܓܚܟܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܚܕ ܥܡ ܚܕ ܘܤܦܪܐ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܐܚܝ ܢܦܫܗ ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܠܡܚܝܘ ܀
32 Let the Messiah, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe." Those who were crucified with him also kept abusing him.	32 ܡܫܝܚܐ ܡܠܟܗ ܕܐܝܤܪܝܠ ܢܚܘܬ ܗܫܐ ܡܢ ܙܩܝܦܐ ܕܢܚܙܐ ܘܢܗܝܡܢ ܒܗ ܘܐܦ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܕܙܩܝܦܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܥܡܗ ܡܚܤܕܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܀
33 At noon darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.	33 ܘܟܕ ܗܘܝ ܫܬ ܫܥܝܢ ܗܘܐ ܚܫܘܟܐ ܥܠ ܟܠܗ ܐܪܥܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܫܥܐ ܬܫܥ ܀
34 And at three o'clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?" which is translated, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"	34 ܘܒܬܫܥ ܫܥܝܢ ܩܥܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܒܩܠܐ ܪܡܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܝܠ ܐܝܠ ܠܡܢܐ ܫܒܩܬܢܝ ܕܐܝܬܝܗ ܐܠܗܝ ܐܠܗܝ ܠܡܢܐ ܫܒܩܬܢܝ ܀
35 Some of the bystanders who heard it said, "Look, he is calling Elijah."	35 ܘܐܢܫܝܢ ܕܫܡܥܘ ܡܢ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܩܝܡܝܢ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܐܠܝܐ ܩܪܐ ܀
36 One of them ran, soaked a sponge with wine, put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink, saying, "Wait, let us see if Elijah comes to take him down."	36 ܪܗܛ ܕܝܢ ܚܕ ܘܡܠܐ ܐܤܦܘܓܐ ܚܠܐ ܘܐܤܪ ܒܩܢܝܐ ܕܢܫܩܝܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܫܒܘܩܘ ܢܚܙܐ ܐܢ ܐܬܐ ܐܠܝܐ ܡܚܬ ܠܗ ܀
37 Jesus gave a loud cry and breathed his last.	37 ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܩܥܐ ܒܩܠܐ ܪܡܐ ܘܫܠܡ ܀
38 The veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom.	38 ܘܐܦܝ ܬܪܥܐ ܕܗܝܟܠܐ ܐܨܛܪܝ ܠܬܪܝܢ ܡܢ ܠܥܠ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܬܚܬ ܀
39 When the centurion who stood facing him saw how he breathed his last he said, "Truly this man was the Son of God!"	39 ܟܕ ܚܙܐ ܕܝܢ ܩܢܛܪܘܢܐ ܗܘ ܕܩܐܡ ܗܘܐ ܠܘܬܗ ܕܗܟܢܐ ܩܥܐ ܘܫܠܡ ܐܡܪ ܫܪܝܪܐܝܬ ܗܢܐ ܓܒܪܐ ܒܪܗ ܗܘܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܀
40 There were also women looking on from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of the younger James and of Joses, and Salome.	40 ܐܝܬ ܗܘܝ ܕܝܢ ܐܦ ܢܫܐ ܡܢ ܪܘܚܩܐ ܕܚܙܝܢ ܗܘܝ ܡܪܝܡ ܡܓܕܠܝܬܐ ܘܡܪܝܡ ܐܡܗ ܕܝܥܩܘܒ ܙܥܘܪܐ ܘܕܝܘܤܐ ܘܫܠܘܡ ܀
41 These women had followed him when he was in Galilee and ministered to him. There were also many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem.	41 ܗܢܝܢ ܕܟܕ ܗܘ ܒܓܠܝܠܐ ܢܩܝܦܢ ܗܘܝ ܠܗ ܘܡܫܡܫܢ ܠܗ ܘܐܚܪܢܝܬܐ ܤܓܝܐܬܐ ܕܤܠܩ ܗܘܝ ܥܡܗ ܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܀
42 When it was already evening, since it was the day of preparation, the day before the sabbath,	42 ܘܟܕ ܗܘܐ ܪܡܫܐ ܕܥܪܘܒܬܐ ܕܐܝܬܝܗ ܩܕܡ ܫܒܬܐ ܀
43 Joseph of Arimathea, a distinguished member of the council, who was himself awaiting the kingdom of God, came and courageously went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.	43 ܐܬܐ ܝܘܤܦ ܗܘ ܕܡܢ ܪܡܬܐ ܡܝܩܪܐ ܒܘܠܘܛܐ ܐܝܢܐ ܕܐܦ ܗܘ ܡܤܟܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܡܠܟܘܬܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܘܐܡܪܚ ܘܥܠ ܠܘܬ ܦܝܠܛܘܤ ܘܫܐܠ ܦܓܪܗ ܕܝܫܘܥ ܀
44 Pilate was amazed that he was already dead. He summoned the centurion and asked him if Jesus had already died.	44 ܦܝܠܛܘܤ ܕܝܢ ܬܡܗ ܕܐܢ ܡܢ ܟܕܘ ܡܝܬ ܘܩܪܐ ܠܩܢܛܪܘܢܐ ܘܫܐܠܗ ܕܐܢ ܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܥܕܢܐ ܡܝܬ ܀
45 And when he learned of it from the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.	45 ܘܟܕ ܝܠܦ ܝܗܒ ܦܓܪܗ ܠܝܘܤܦ ܀
46 Having bought a linen cloth, he took him down, wrapped him in the linen cloth and laid him in a tomb that had been hewn out of the rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance to the tomb.	46 ܘܙܒܢ ܝܘܤܦ ܟܬܢܐ ܘܐܚܬܗ ܘܟܪܟܗ ܒܗ ܘܤܡܗ ܒܩܒܪܐ ܕܢܩܝܪ ܗܘܐ ܒܫܘܥܐ ܘܥܓܠ ܟܐܦܐ ܥܠ ܬܪܥܗ ܕܩܒܪܐ ܀ 47 ܡܪܝܡ ܕܝܢ ܡܓܕܠܝܬܐ ܘܡܪܝܡ ܗܝ ܕܝܘܤܐ ܚܙܝ ܐܝܟܐ ܕܐܬܬܤܝܡ ܀
47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses watched where he was laid.
