1 Indeed, she reaches from end to end mightily and governs all things well.	1 Ella si estende con potenza da un’estremità all’altra [del mondo], e tutto governa, con bontà.
2 Her I loved and sought after from my youth; I sought to take her for my bride and was enamored of her beauty.	2 Questa ho amato e ricercato fin dalla gioventù, e ho cercato di prendermela a sposa, innamorato della sua bellezza.
3 She adds to nobility the splendor of companionship with God; even the LORD of all loved her.	3 La propria nobiltà essa gloriosamente illustra col suo conviver con Dio, e il Signore di tutte le cose l’ama.
4 For she is instructress in the understanding of God, the selector of his works.	4 E' dessa infatti che inizia alla scienza di Dio, e sceglie tra le opere di lui.
5 And if riches be a desirable possession in life, what is more rich than Wisdom, who produces all things?	5 E se la ricchezza è desiderabile possesso in vita, che v’ha di più ricco della sapienza, che tutto opera?
6 And if prudence renders service, who in the world is a better craftsman than she?	6 E se il senno è attivo, chi più di quella è l’artefice delle cose che esistono?
7 Or if one loves justice, the fruits of her works are virtues; For she teaches moderation and prudence, justice and fortitude, and nothing in life is more useful for men than these.	7 E se alcuno ama la giustizia, le fatiche di quella son grandi virtù: insegna invero la temperanza e la prudenza, la giustizia e la fortezza, delle quali nulla c’è di più utile in vita agli uomini.
8 Or again, if one yearns for copious learning, she knows the things of old, and infers those yet to come. She understands the turns of phrases and the solutions of riddles; signs and wonders she knows in advance and the outcome of times and ages.	8 E se uno brama un’esperienza molteplice, ella sa il passato e congettura il futuro; conosce le astuzie de discorsi e le soluzioni degli enimmi; segni e prodigi intende in anticipo e gli eventi de’tempi e de’secoli.
9 So I determined to take her to live with me, knowing that she would be my counselor while all was well, and my comfort in care and grief.	9 Perciò risolvetti di menarla a convivere con me, appendo che sarà per me consigliera di bene e conforto nelle cure e nell’affanno mio.
10 For her sake I should have glory among the masses, and esteem from the elders, though I be but a youth.	10 Per lei avrò gloria tra le folle, e onore, [benché] giovane, presso i vegliardi.
11 I should become keen in judgment, and should be a marvel before rulers.	11 Mi troveranno acuto ne’ giudizi, e sarò oggetto di maraviglia al cospetto de’ potenti, e il volto de' principi mostrerà stupore a mio riguardo.
12 They would abide my silence and attend my utterance; and as I spoke on further, they would place their hands upon their mouths.	12 Quand'io taccio, aspetteranno, e quando prendo la parola, staranno attenti, e se parlerò a lungo, si porranno la mano alla bocca.
13 For her sake I should have immortality and leave to those after me an everlasting memory.	13 Avrò anche, per via di lei, l'immortalità, e memoria eterna lascerò al miei posteri.
14 I should govern peoples, and nations would be my subjects-	14 Governerò i popoli e mi saran soggètte le genti.
15 terrible princes, hearing of me, would be afraid; in the assembly I should appear noble, and in war courageous.	15 Mi temeranno, al sentir [parlar di me], re terribili; apparirò buono tra il popolo e valoroso in guerra,
16 Within my dwelling, I should take my repose beside her; For association with her involves no bitterness and living with her no grief, but rather joy and gladness.	16 Rientrando In casa, mi riposerò presso di lei; perchè non ha amarezza la sua conversazione, nè tedio il conviver con lei, ma letizia e gioia.
17 Thinking thus within myself, and reflecting in my heart That there is immortality in kinship with Wisdom,	17 Pensando a questo tra me e riflettendo in cuor mio, come nell'intima unione con la sapienza sta l'immortalità, e nobile godimento c’è nella sua amicizia,
18 and good pleasure in her friendship, and unfailing riches in the works of her hands, And that in frequenting her society there is prudence, and fair renown in sharing her discourses, I went about seeking to take her for my own.	18 e nelle opere delle sue mani ricchezza inesauribile, e prudenza nell'indefesso conversar con lei, e fama nel partecipare ai suoi ragionamenti, io andavo attorno cercando di farla mia.
19 Now, I was a well-favored child, and I came by a noble nature;	19 Ero un ragazzo di buona indole, e m’era toccata in sorte un'anima buona:
20 or rather, being noble, I attained an unsullied body.	20 o meglio, essendo io buono, ero venuto a un corpo senza macchia.
21 And knowing that I could not otherwise possess her except God gave it-- and this, too, was prudence, to know whose is the gift-- I went to the LORD and besought him, and said with all my heart:	21 Ma sapendo che non altrimenti avrei fatto acquisto [della sapienza], se Dio non me la dava, — e già questo era un effetto di prudenza il saper da chi venga tal dono, - mi rivolsi al Signore e lo pregai, e dissi con tutto il mio cuore:
