Sirach 24

1 Wisdom shall praise herself, and shall glory in the midst of her people.	1 Die Weisheit lobt sich selbst und rühmt sich inmitten ihres Volkes;
2 In the congregation of the most High shall she open her mouth, and triumph before his power.	2 in der Gemeinde des Höchsten tut sie ihren Mund auf und rühmt sich vor seiner Heerschar:
3 I came out of the mouth of the most High, and covered the earth as a cloud.	3 »Ich bin aus dem Munde des Höchsten hervorgegangen und habe wie ein Nebel die Erde bedeckt;
4 I dwelt in high places, and my throne is in a cloudy pillar.	4 ich nahm meinen Wohnsitz in der Höhe, und mein Thron ruhte auf einer Wolkensäule.
5 I alone compassed the circuit of heaven, and walked in the bottom of the deep.	5 Das Himmelsgewölbe umwandelte ich allein und ging in der Tiefe der Fluten einher;
6 In the waves of the sea and in all the earth, and in every people and nation, I got a possession.	6 in den Wogen des Meeres und auf der ganzen Erde, in jedem Volk und jedem Stamm habe ich mich betätigt (?)
7 With all these I sought rest: and in whose inheritance shall I abide?	7 Bei diesen allen suchte ich eine Heimstätte und in wessen Erbteil ich weilen könnte.
8 So the Creator of all things gave me a commandment, and he that made me caused my tabernacle to rest, and said, Let thy dwelling be in Jacob, and thine inheritance in Israel.	8 Da gebot mir der Schöpfer des Weltalls, und er, der mich geschaffen, wies mir eine feste Wohnung an mit den Worten: ›In Jakob nimm deinen Wohnsitz und in Israel sollst du deinen Erbbesitz erhalten!‹
9 He created me from the beginning before the world, and I shall never fail.	9 Vor aller Zeit, im Anfang, hat er mich geschaffen, und bis in Ewigkeit werde ich kein Ende nehmen.
10 In the holy tabernacle I served before him; and so was I established in Sion.	10 In der heiligen Hütte habe ich den Dienst vor ihm versehen und ebenso in Zion einen festen Sitz erhalten;
11 Likewise in the beloved city he gave me rest, and in Jerusalem was my power.	11 in der geliebten Stadt hat er mir gleichermaßen einen Sitz verliehen, und in Jerusalem war (oder ist?) mein Machtbereich.
12 And I took root in an honourable people, even in the portion of the Lord's inheritance.	12 Und ich schlug Wurzel in dem gepriesenen Volk, im Erbteil des Herrn, seinem Eigentumsvolk.
13 I was exalted like a cedar in Libanus, and as a cypress tree upon the mountains of Hermon.	13 Wie eine Zeder auf dem Libanon wuchs ich empor und wie eine Zypresse auf den Bergen des Hermon;
14 I was exalted like a palm tree in En-gaddi, and as a rose plant in Jericho, as a fair olive tree in a pleasant field, and grew up as a plane tree by the water.	14 wie eine Palme in Engeddi wuchs ich empor und wie Rosenstöcke zu Jericho, wie ein prangender Ölbaum in der Ebene, und wie eine Platane (am Wasser) wuchs ich empor.
15 I gave a sweet smell like cinnamon and aspalathus, and I yielded a pleasant odour like the best myrrh, as galbanum, and onyx, and sweet storax, and as the fume of frankincense in the tabernacle.	15 Wie Zimt und Gewürzstrauch hauchte ich Wohlgeruch aus, und wie eine köstliche Myrrhe verbreitete ich Duft, wie Galbanum, Räucherklaue und Stakte und wie Weihrauchdampf in der Stiftshütte.
16 As the turpentine tree I stretched out my branches, and my branches are the branches of honour and grace.	16 Ich breitete wie eine Terebinthe meine Zweige aus, und meine Zweige waren voller Pracht und Lieblichkeit;
17 As the vine brought I forth pleasant savour, and my flowers are the fruit of honour and riches.	17 ich war wie ein herrlich sprossender Weinstock, und meine Blüten brachten prächtige und reiche Frucht.
18 I am the mother of fair love, and fear, and knowledge, and holy hope: I therefore, being eternal, am given to all my children which are named of him.	18 Kommt her zu mir, die ihr Verlangen nach mir tragt, und sättigt euch an meinen Früchten!
19 Come unto me, all ye that be desirous of me, and fill yourselves with my fruits.	19 denn schon der Gedanke an mich geht über süßen Honig, und mich zu besitzen ist süßer als Honigseim.
20 For my memorial is sweeter than honey, and mine inheritance than the honeycomb.	20 Die von mir essen, empfinden immer neuen Hunger (nach mir), und die von mir trinken, dürsten immer weiter (nach mir).
21 They that eat me shall yet be hungry, and they that drink me shall yet be thirsty.	21 Wer auf mich hört, wird sich nie zu schämen brauchen, und wer in meinem Dienste sich betätigt, wird nicht sündigen«.
22 He that obeyeth me shall never be confounded, and they that work by me shall not do amiss.	22 Dies alles gilt vom Bundesbuch Gottes des Höchsten, vom Gesetz, das Mose uns verordnet hat als Besitztum für die Gemeinden Jakobs,
23 All these things are the book of the covenant of the most high God, even the law which Moses commanded for an heritage unto the congregations of Jacob.	23 das Gesetz, das da Weisheit in Fülle besitzt wie der Pison und wie der Tigris in den Tagen der Erstlingsfrüchte;
24 Faint not to be strong in the Lord; that he may confirm you, cleave unto him: for the Lord Almighty is God alone, and beside him there is no other Saviour.	24 das da flutet wie der Euphrat von Einsicht und wie der Jordan in den Tagen der Ernte;
25 He filleth all things with his wisdom, as Phison and as Tigris in the time of the new fruits.	25 das da Belehrung hervorströmen läßt wie der Nil und wie der Gihon in den Tagen der Weinlese.
26 He maketh the understanding to abound like Euphrates, and as Jordan in the time of the harvest.	26 Der erste ist mit der Erforschung seiner Weisheit nicht ans Ende gelangt, und ebenso wird der letzte sie nicht ergründen;
27 He maketh the doctrine of knowledge appear as the light, and as Geon in the time of vintage.	27 denn reichhaltiger als das Meer sind ihre Gedanken, und ihre Einsicht ist tiefer als die große Urflut.
28 The first man knew her not perfectly: no more shall the last find her out.	28 Ich aber – wie ein Kanal von einem Flusse ausgeht und wie eine Wasserleitung in einen Lustgarten ausläuft –,
29 For her thoughts are more than the sea, and her counsels profounder than the great deep.	29 ich dachte: »Ich will meinen Garten bewässern und meine Beete tränken«; aber siehe da: mein Kanal wurde mir zu einem Strom, und mein Strom wurde mir zu einem Meer.
30 I also came out as a brook from a river, and as a conduit into a garden.	30 So will ich denn auch fernerhin Belehrung leuchten lassen wie die Morgenröte und sie kundtun bis in weite Ferne;
31 I said, I will water my best garden, and will water abundantly my garden bed: and, lo, my brook became a river, and my river became a sea.	31 auch fernerhin will ich Belehrung wie Prophetenworte ausströmen und sie den spätesten Geschlechtern hinterlassen.
32 I will yet make doctrine to shine as the morning, and will send forth her light afar off.	32 Ihr sollt sehen, daß ich nicht für mich allein gearbeitet habe, sondern für alle, die nach der Weisheit Verlangen tragen.
33 I will yet pour out doctrine as prophecy, and leave it to all ages for ever.
34 Behold that I have not laboured for myself only, but for all them that seek wisdom.
