1 Majd így szólt az Úr Mózeshez:	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
2 »Állj bosszút előbb Izrael fiaiért a mádiánitákon, aztán megtérsz népedhez.«	2 'Exact the ful vengeance for the Israelites on the Midianites. Afterwards you will be gathered to yourpeople.'
3 Legott azt mondta Mózes: »Fegyverezzetek föl magatok közül férfiakat a hadra, hogy végrehajtsák az Úr bosszúját a mádiánitákon.	3 Moses said to the people, 'Some of you are to take up arms for Yahweh's campaign against Midian,to carry out the vengeance of Yahweh on Midian.
4 Ezer-ezer embert válasszatok ki és küldjetek hadba Izrael mindegyik törzséből.«	4 You will put a thousand men in the field from each of the tribes of Israel.'
5 Rendelkezésére is bocsátottak ezret-ezret mindegyik törzsből, vagyis tizenkétezer hadra felkészült embert.	5 In this way Israel's thousands provided twelve thousand men equipped for war, one thousand fromeach tribe:
6 Ezeket elküldte Mózes Fineesszel, valamint Eleazár pap fiát, akinek átadta a szent szereket s a riadótrombitákat is.	6 Moses put them in the field, one thousand from each tribe, with Phinehas, son of the priest Eleazar,to go with them carrying the sacred objects and the trumpets for the battle cry.
7 Miután ezek harcba szálltak a mádiánitákkal és győztek, megöltek minden férfit,	7 They made war on Midian, as Yahweh had ordered Moses, and put every male to death.
8 királyaikkal, Evivel, Rekemmel, Szúrral, Húrral és Rebével, nemzetük öt királyával együtt; Bálámot, Beor fiát is megölték a karddal.	8 What is more, they kil ed the kings of Midian, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba, the five Midianite kings;they also put Balaam son of Beor to the sword.
9 Aztán foglyul ejtették asszonyaikat és gyermekeiket, elzsákmányolták minden jószágukat és minden holmijukat, amijük csak volt,	9 The Israelites took the Midianite women and their little ones captive and carried off al their cattle, altheir flocks and al their goods as booty.
10 és lángba borították városaikat, falvaikat s majorjaikat egyaránt.	10 They set fire to the towns where they lived and to al their encampments.
11 Majd fogták a zsákmányt s mindazt, amit az emberek s az állatok közül foglyul ejtettek	11 Then, taking al their booty, everything they had captured, human and animal,
12 és elvitték Mózeshez, Eleazár paphoz és Izrael fiainak egész sokaságához, a többi holmit pedig elvitték a táborba, amely Moáb mezőségén, a Jordán mellett, Jerikóval átellenben volt.	12 they brought the captives, spoil and booty to Moses, the priest Eleazar and the whole community ofIsraelites at the camp on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan by Jericho.
13 Ekkor kiment Mózes, Eleazár pap és a gyülekezet valamennyi fejedelme eléjük, a táboron kívülre.	13 Moses, the priest Eleazar and al the leaders of the community went out of the camp to meet them.
14 Ám Mózes megharagudott a sereg vezéreire, az ezredesekre meg a századosokra, akik megjöttek a hadból	14 Moses was enraged with the officers of the army, the commanders of the thousands andcommanders of the hundreds, who had come back from this military expedition.
15 és azt mondta: »Miért hagytátok életben az asszonyokat?	15 He said, 'Why have you spared the life of al the women?
16 Nemde ezek azok, akik tőrbe csalták Izrael fiait Bálám tanácsára és hűtlenség elkövetésére vittek rá titeket az Úr ellen a Fogorral elkövetett bűn által, amiért csapás is zúdult a népre?	16 They were the very ones who, on Balaam's advice, caused the Israelites to be unfaithful to Yahwehin the affair at Peor: hence the plague which struck Yahweh's community.
17 Öljetek meg tehát a gyermekek közül is minden fiúgyermeket, s pusztítsatok el minden asszonyt, aki férfit ismert,	17 So kil al the male children and kil al the women who have ever slept with a man;
18 s csak a leánykákat meg a szűz nőket hagyjátok meg magatoknak.	18 but spare the lives of the young girls who have never slept with a man, and keep them foryourselves.
19 Maradjatok továbbá hét napig a táboron kívül, s aki embert ölt vagy megöltet érintett, végezzen tisztulást a harmadik, s a hetedik napon	19 As for you, bivouac outside the camp for seven days, everyone who has kil ed anyone or touched acorpse. Purify yourselves and your prisoners on the third and seventh days,
20 és tisztítsatok meg minden zsákmányt is, akár ruha, akár edény, akár valami kecskebőrből vagy szőrből, vagy fából készült eszköz.«	20 and purify al clothing, everything made of skin, everything woven of goat's hair and everythingmade of wood.'
21 Erre Eleazár pap így szólt a sereg hadat járt férfiaihoz: »A következő a törvény intézkedése, ezt parancsolta az Úr Mózesnek:	21 The priest Eleazar said to the soldiers who had come back from the campaign, 'This is an article ofthe Law which Yahweh prescribed to Moses:
22 Az aranyat, az ezüstöt, a rezet, a vasat, az ólmot, az ónt	22 although gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin and lead,
23 és mindazt, ami átmehet tűzön, tűzzel kell megtisztítani; mindazt pedig, ami nem állja a tüzet, a tisztítóvízzel kell megszentelni.	23 everything that can withstand fire can be cleaned by being passed through fire, it must stil bepurified with water for purification. Whatever cannot resist fire you must pass through water.
24 Mossátok ki továbbá ruháitokat a hetedik napon, s akkor tiszták lesztek, s aztán bemehettek a táborba.«	24 'Wash your clothes on the seventh day and you wil then be clean. You may then re-enter the camp.'
25 Majd azt mondta az Úr Mózesnek:	25 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
26 »Állapítsd meg Eleazár pappal és a nép fejeivel együtt a foglyul ejtett emberek és állatok számát	26 'With the priest Eleazar and the heads of families in the community, take a count of the spoils andcaptives, human and animal.
27 és felezd el a zsákmányt azok között, akik harcoltak és kimentek a hadba, meg az egész egyéb sokaság között.	27 You wil then share out the spoil, half and half, between those who fought the campaign and the restof the community.
28 Végy el azonban azoktól, akik harcoltak és hadban voltak, egyet-egyet minden ötszáz ember, marha, szamár és juh közül részesedésül az Úrnak,	28 From the share of the combatants who took part in the campaign, you wil set aside one out of everyfive hundred persons, oxen, donkeys and sheep as Yahweh's portion.
29 és add oda Eleazár papnak adományul az Úrnak,	29 You wil take this from the half share coming to them and give it to the priest Eleazar as the portionset aside for Yahweh.
30 az Izrael fiainak járó fél részből pedig végy el minden ötvenedik fejet emberből, marhából, szamárból, juhból, minden állatból, s add oda a levitáknak, akik az Úr hajlékának gondjait viselik.«	30 From the half coming to the Israelites, you will take one out of every fifty persons, oxen, donkeys,sheep, and al other animals, and give them to the Levites who are responsible for Yahweh's Dwel ing.'
31 Úgy is tett Mózes és Eleazár, ahogy az Úr parancsolta.	31 Moses and the priest Eleazar did as Yahweh had ordered Moses.
32 A zsákmány, amelyet a hadsereg ejtett, ez volt: hatszázhetvenötezer juh,	32 The spoils, the remainder of the booty captured by the soldiers, came to six hundred and seventy-five thousand sheep and goats,
33 hetvenkétezer marha,	33 seventy-two thousand head of cattle,
34 hatvanegyezer szamár,	34 sixty-one thousand donkeys,
35 az emberekből pedig harminckétezer volt azoknak a hajadonoknak száma, akik férfit nem ismertek.	35 and in persons, women who had never slept with a man, thirty-two thousand in al .
36 Odaadták tehát azoknak, akik a hadban voltak, ennek a felét: háromszázharminchétezer-ötszáz juhot,	36 Half was assigned to those who had taken part in the war, namely three hundred and thirty-seventhousand five hundred sheep and goats,
37 de ebből az Úr részére levontak hatszázhetvenöt juhot,	37 of which Yahweh's portion was six hundred and seventy-five,
38 a harminchatezer marhából hetvenkét marhát,	38 thirty-six thousand head of cattle, of which Yahweh's portion was seventy-two,
39 a harmincezer-ötszáz szamárból hatvanegy szamarat,	39 thirty thousand five hundred donkeys, of which Yahweh's portion was sixty-one,
40 míg a tizenhatezer emberből harminckét személy jutott az Úr részére.	40 and sixteen thousand persons, of which Yahweh's portion was thirty-two.
41 Aztán átadta Mózes az Úrnak járó adomány összességét Eleazár papnak, amint az Úr parancsolta neki,	41 Moses gave the priest Eleazar the portion set aside for Yahweh, as Yahweh had ordered Moses.
42 Izrael fiainak abból a fél részéből, amelyet azok számára különített el, akik a hadban voltak.	42 As for the half coming to the Israelites which Moses had separated from that of the combatants,
43 Abból a fél részből pedig, amely a többi népnek jutott, vagyis a háromszázharminchétezer-ötszáz juhból,	43 this half, the community's share, came to three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundredsheep and goats,
44 a harminchatezer marhából,	44 thirty-six thousand head of cattle,
45 a harmincezer-ötszáz szamárból,	45 thirty thousand five hundred donkeys
46 s a tizenhatezer emberből	46 and sixteen thousand persons.
47 elvette Mózes minden ötvenedik fejet, s odaadta a levitáknak, akik az Úr hajlékának gondjait viselték, amint az Úr parancsolta.	47 From this half, the Israelites' share, Moses took one out of every fifty, human and animal, and gavethem to the Levites who were responsible for Yahweh's Dwel ing, as Yahweh had ordered Moses.
48 Ekkor Mózes elé járultak a hadsereg vezérei, az ezredesek és a századosok, s azt mondták:	48 The officers of the thousands who had fought the campaign, the commanders of the thousands andcommanders of the hundreds, came to Moses
49 »Mi, szolgáid, megszámláltuk a harcosokat, akik a kezünk alatt voltak, s egy sem hiányzik közülük.	49 and said, 'Your servants have numbered the soldiers under their command: none of our men ismissing.
50 Éppen azért valamennyien odaadjuk ajándékul az Úrnak az aranyat, amit a zsákmányban találtunk: karkötőt és karperecet, gyűrűt és karékességet meg nyakláncot, hogy esedezzél értünk az Úrnál.«	50 So, as an offering for Yahweh, we have brought what each of us has found in the way of goldornaments, armlets and bracelets, rings, earrings and breastplates, to make expiation for ourselves beforeYahweh.'
51 Mózes és Eleazár pap át is vették a különféleképpen feldolgozott aranyat, amely összesen	51 Moses and the priest Eleazar accepted this gold from them, al this jewel ery.
52 tizenhatezer-hétszázötven sékelt nyomott, az ezredesektől meg a századosoktól –	52 This portion of gold given to Yahweh by the commanders of the thousands and commanders of thehundreds amounted to sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.
53 amit ugyanis a közemberek zsákmányoltak, az az övék maradt –,	53 Each of the soldiers took his own booty.
54 s miután átvették, bevitték a bizonyság sátrába, hogy emlékeztesse az Urat Izrael fiaira.	54 But Moses and the priest Eleazar, having accepted the gold from the commanders of the thousandsand commanders of the hundreds, brought it into the Tent of Meeting, to be a reminder of the Israelites beforeYahweh.
