Prima lettera ai Corinzi - 1 Corinthians 10

1 Δεν θελω δε να αγνοητε, αδελφοι, οτι οι πατερες ημων ησαν παντες υπο την νεφελην, και παντες δια της θαλασσης διηλθον,	1 I want you to be quite certain, brothers, that our ancestors al had the cloud over them and al passedthrough the sea.
2 και παντες εις τον Μωυσην εβαπτισθησαν εν τη νεφελη και εν τη θαλασση,	2 In the cloud and in the sea they were all baptised into Moses;
3 και παντες την αυτην πνευματικην βρωσιν εφαγον,	3 al ate the same spiritual food
4 και παντες το αυτο πνευματικον ποτον επιον? διοτι επινον απο πνευματικης πετρας ακολουθουσης, η δε πετρα ητο ο Χριστος?	4 and al drank the same spiritual drink, since they drank from the spiritual rock which fol owed them,and that rock was Christ.
5 αλλα δεν ευηρεστηθη ο Θεος εις τους πλειοτερους εξ αυτων? διοτι κατεστρωθησαν εν τη ερημω.	5 In spite of this, God was not pleased with most of them, and their corpses were scattered over thedesert.
6 Ταυτα δε εγειναν παραδειγματα ημων, δια να μη ημεθα ημεις επιθυμηται κακων, καθως και εκεινοι επεθυμησαν.	6 Now these happenings were examples, for our benefit, so that we should never set our hearts, as theydid, on evil things;
7 Μηδε γινεσθε ειδωλολατραι, καθως τινες εξ αυτων, ως ειναι γεγραμμενον? Εκαθησεν ο λαος δια να φαγη και να πιη, και εσηκωθησαν να παιζωσι.	7 nor are you to worship false gods, as some of them did, as it says in scripture: The people sat down toeat and drink, and afterwards got up to amuse themselves.
8 Μηδε ας πορνευωμεν, καθως τινες αυτων επορνευσαν και επεσον εν μια ημερα εικοσιτρεις χιλιαδες.	8 Nor, again, are we to fall into sexual immorality; some of them did this, and twenty-three thousand mettheir downfal in one day.
9 Μηδε ας πειραζωμεν τον Χριστον, καθως και τινες αυτων επειρασαν και απωλεσθησαν υπο των οφεων.	9 And we are not to put the Lord to the test; some of them put him to the test, and they were killed bysnakes.
10 Μηδε γογγυζετε, καθως και τινες αυτων εγογγυσαν, και απωλεσθησαν υπο του εξολοθρευτου.	10 Never complain; some of them complained, and they were killed by the Destroyer.
11 Ταυτα δε παντα εγινοντο εις εκεινους παραδειγματα, και εγραφησαν προς νουθεσιαν ημων, εις τους οποιους τα τελη των αιωνων εφθασαν.	11 Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were described in writing to bea lesson for us, to whom it has fallen to live in the last days of the ages.
12 Ωστε ο νομιζων οτι ισταται ας βλεπη μη πεση.	12 Everyone, no matter how firmly he thinks he is standing, must be careful he does not fall.
13 Πειρασμος δεν σας κατελαβεν ειμη ανθρωπινος? πιστος ομως ειναι ο Θεος, οστις δεν θελει σας αφησει να πειρασθητε υπερ την δυναμιν σας, αλλα μετα του πειρασμου θελει καμει και την εκβασιν, ωστε να δυνασθε να υποφερητε.	13 None of the trials which have come upon you is more than a human being can stand. You can trustthat God wil not let you be put to the test beyond your strength, but with any trial will also provide a way out byenabling you to put up with it.
14 Δια τουτο, αγαπητοι μου, φευγετε απο της ειδωλολατρειας.	14 For that reason, my dear friends, have nothing to do with the worship of false gods.
15 Λεγω ως προς φρονιμους? κρινατε σεις τουτο το οποιον λεγω?	15 I am talking to you as sensible people; weigh up for yourselves what I have to say.
16 Το ποτηριον της ευλογιας, το οποιον ευλογουμεν, δεν ειναι κοινωνια του αιματος του Χριστου; Ο αρτος, τον οποιον κοπτομεν, δεν ειναι κοινωνια του σωματος του Χριστου;	16 The blessing-cup, which we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ; and the loaf of bread which we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ?
17 διοτι εις αρτος, εν σωμα ειμεθα οι πολλοι? επειδη παντες εκ του ενος αρτου μετεχομεν.	17 And as there is one loaf, so we, although there are many of us, are one single body, for we all sharein the one loaf.
18 Βλεπετε τον Ισραηλ κατα σαρκα? οι τρωγοντες τας θυσιας δεν ειναι κοινωνοι του θυσιαστηριου;	18 Now compare the natural people of Israel: is it not true that those who eat the sacrifices share thealtar?
19 Τι λοιπον λεγω; οτι το ειδωλον ειναι τι; η οτι το ειδωλοθυτον ειναι τι; ουχι?	19 What does this mean? That the dedication of food to false gods amounts to anything? Or that falsegods themselves amount to anything?
20 αλλ' οτι εκεινα, τα οποια θυσιαζουσι τα εθνη, εις τα δαιμονια θυσιαζουσι και ουχι εις τον Θεον? και δεν θελω σεις να γινησθε κοινωνοι των δαιμονιων.	20 No, it does not; simply that when pagans sacrifice, what is sacrificed by them is sacrificed to demonswho are not God. I do not want you to share with demons.
21 Δεν δυνασθε να πινητε το ποτηριον του Κυριου και το ποτηριον των δαιμονιων? δεν δυνασθε να ησθε μετοχοι της τραπεζης του Κυριου και της τραπεζης των δαιμονιων.	21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons as wel ; you cannot have a share at theLord's table and the demons' table as wel .
22 Η τον Κυριον θελομεν να διεγειρωμεν εις ζηλοτυπιαν; μηπως ειμεθα ισχυροτεροι αυτου;	22 Do we real y want to arouse the Lord's jealousy; are we stronger than he is?
23 Παντα ειναι εις την εξουσιαν μου αλλα παντα δεν συμφερουσι? παντα ειναι εις την εξουσιαν μου, αλλα παντα δεν οικοδομουσι.	23 'Everything is permissible'; maybe so, but not everything does good. True, everything is permissible,but not everything builds people up.
24 Μηδεις ας ζητη το εαυτου συμφερον, αλλ' εκαστος τα του αλλου.	24 Nobody should be looking for selfish advantage, but everybody for someone else's.
25 Παν το πωλουμενον εν τω μακελλιω τρωγετε, μηδεν εξεταζοντες δια την συνειδησιν?	25 Eat anything that is sold in butchers' shops; there is no need to ask questions for conscience's sake,
26 διοτι του Κυριου ειναι η γη και το πληρωμα αυτης.	26 since To the Lord belong the earth and all it contains.
27 Και εαν τις των απιστων σας προσκαλη και θελετε να υπαγητε, τρωγετε ο, τι βαλλεται εμπροσθεν σας, μηδεν εξεταζοντες δια την συνειδησιν.	27 If an unbeliever invites you to a meal, go if you want to, and eat whatever is put before you; you neednot ask questions of conscience first.
28 Εαν δε τις σας ειπη, Τουτο ειναι ειδωλοθυτον, μη τρωγετε δι' εκεινον τον φανερωσαντα και δια την συνειδησιν? διοτι του Κυριου ειναι η γη και το πληρωμα αυτης.	28 But if someone says to you, 'This food has been offered in sacrifice,' do not eat it, out ofconsideration for the person that told you, for conscience's sake-
29 Συνειδησιν δε λεγω ουχι την ιδικην σου, αλλα την του αλλου. Επειδη δια τι η ελευθερια μου κρινεται υπο αλλης συνειδησεως;	29 not your own conscience, I mean, but the other person's. Why should my freedom be governed bysomebody else's conscience?
30 Και εαν εγω μετ' ευχαριστιας μετεχω, δια τι βλασφημουμαι δι' εκεινο, δια το οποιον εγω ευχαριστω;	30 Provided that I accept it with gratitude, why should I be blamed for eating food for which I givethanks?
31 Ειτε λοιπον τρωγετε ειτε πινετε ειτε πραττετε τι, παντα πραττετε εις δοξαν Θεου.	31 Whatever you eat, then, or drink, and whatever else you do, do it al for the glory of God.
32 Μη γινεσθε προσκομμα μητε εις Ιουδαιους μητε εις Ελληνας μητε εις την εκκλησιαν του Θεου,	32 Never be a cause of offence, either to Jews or to Greeks or to the Church of God,
33 καθως και εγω κατα παντα αρεσκω εις παντας, μη ζητων το ιδικον μου συμφερον, αλλα το των πολλων, δια να σωθωσι.	33 just as I try to accommodate everybody in everything, not looking for my own advantage, but for theadvantage of everybody else, so that they may be saved.
